Man, these comments are upsetting. I believe it was genuine, Hell, he essentially said WWE was awesome twice in that promo. Frick it, I loved that promo. And yes, if Cody Rhodes did the same promo about WWE, I'd think it's awesome too.
Yeah I dont think the actual content of the segment was all that cringe, apart from opening it with "There's been a lot of negatove BS this week", but the motivation for the segment was clear and in turn made it cringe.
I would find it incredibly cringe if Cody did it for WWE, but I do agree that I think Cope was being genuine. He's just a cheesy motherfricker, listen to any interview with him, especially since joining AEW. He's definitely happy, and he does love AEW.
I honestly wouldn't even be surprised if the segment was his idea. Wrestlers in AEW are meant to have a lot of creative control over their own promos, after all, and I can see Edge reading Punk's comments and thinking "I need to do something," even if it would have been better to no-sell it.
