Come on, when are we going to stop pretending and admit CRT is past it's time, No need for it since we got OLEDs

No good OLEDs exist. They are all sample and hold trash.

500hz is useless unless all your content is 500 fps.

I am literally using a 60hz CRT to view this thread right now. I have also read several hundred chapters of a novel on this thing in the last few days.

that's literally my point. since CRTs have low resolution, shit color gamuts, low refresh rates, the only thing they have going for them is that motion blur thing
but most people saying "sample and hold trash" aren't even doing anything where motion blur makes a difference

All lowres stuff like 8bit/16bit or VHS look better on them, they were not made for sharp highres screens.

CRTs used lead-imbued glass to make sure the high-energy radiation they're shooting at you doesn't leak and give you cancer. they're not coming back just to make a few thousand overpriced monitors for baby ducks to get a brief whiff of nostalgia from. sometimes when technology is gone, it's gone. the supply chains are dead, the experts in the field are dead, and the EPA would be all over your ass

then get me a 4k OLED display in 4:3 with hdr
      >n-no
      then no deal
      >but you're a baby duck 4:3 is dead
there is tons of 4:3 content and I want a screen dedicated to displaying it. simple as.

what do you mean "no deal"? there IS no more deal because there are no more CRTs. we reached peak CRT and will only go down in stock as boomer pass on their useless hunks of lead to ungrateful children who sell them to you on ebay only to have it destroyed because they cheaped out on shipping.

Not all CRTs are made the same, and since most people are used to your standard def Sony trinitrons at best, really they have no clue how good a top tier crt is.

I had a decent vga ViewSonic, 1600x1200, and I was satisfied. Cue a low hour 2070sb diamondtron making it to my desk, it's a whole other level of quality. The smoothness while gaming is unparalleled.

For movies etc. OLED will inevitably replace my main, but I doubt we'll see the same level of smoothness a crt offers below 200hz.

Sorry for generic picrel, not at my desk.

It would be a waste of its limited life span. I literally use it only for games. Wreckfest looks so damn good at 108hz 1600x1200. Better than 160hz 2k on my led monitor, by a pretty big margin.

I want one for anime. I have to ask; https://www.ebay.com/itm/364579237326
what is something like this worth? everyone always says this is scalper central and that I need to wait for better deals. and this is way over my price. but I want to know what you guys think it should actually be.

If it's just for anime buy an HD wide screen locally for $50-$150. Don't mess with eBay.
Using that gem for anime is a sin. I wouldn't pay 3000 for it unless I was absolutely stupid rich. I got one for $200 the other day. Rare as hell though.

CRT cases are cool though since you can upgrade to a notebook display and put SFF guts inside for dat retro feel and fewer hernias lifting the thing.

I use an old CRT because:
    1. I have one
    2. It work
    3. I have an available port on my graphic card

OLED uses PWM to control pixel brightness, which is unacceptable

i'd pay 20k+ for an ~90 inch OLED with the motion clarity of a crt.
sadly it doesn't exist for probably the next 2-3 decades, if ever.

crt is the only option for games.

They could make an OLED with CRT motion clarity now. But they won't because normies have no subjective experience so will accept anything, so manufactureres feel no need to improve things.
