still use from time to time, even under wine
the plugins for the various game console music formats are still unbeaten

yeah this. if you find one for foobar or whatever they're usually lq and don't even implement the most important feature: infinite replay/looping

i tip my hat. a true conoisseur of the finer arts.
im more of a grug type. on top of that i have tinnitus. as a result computer speakers and shit bitrate is perfectly good for me.
mainly because i couldnt tell the difference with something better. also because i tend to unintentionally break things, kek

We had an old shitty computer at our country home with Windows 98 on it, we would play CD music through Winamp sometimes. Well into the mid or late 2010s, until the computer finally died.

i've been using it since 2002, but i'm thinking of switching to something else since the local database that keeps track of song listens randomly shit the bed and it made me sad. i

i've thought about learning WACUP and seeing how exactly the db file is getting tripped up and how it got corrupted, but i don't know the first thing about programming on windows, nor do i know c++

I still use it today, I don't think I've found any programs that can replace it's ability to play whatever the frick file I want, from amiga mods to whatever game console sound format.

Does anyone know if it's possible to assign an image to show up instead of the folder art for a specific song in a folder? Specifically for files that can't have the image directly embedded into the file? Is that even possible?

      Anonymous

Set album art instead of icons, change your folder view to thumbnails. Pretty sure there are programs to set album art on audio files, but you might have to wipe their attributes if they automatically download their own album info when opened in a media player. Only other way I can think of is to make static music videos. With something like VLC you can turn the video track off at playtime.

Honestly these days I just use Plex in a browser window.
Would like to switch to Jellyfin but I don't think it's quite there for music yet, and while theres plenty of "Open" alternatives out there, you still have to pay for them like Plex, with stupid price tags because muh audiophile experience.

Then again I don't keep anything local on any of my computers, all my music is on a home server and I can listen to it on my laptop, desktop or phone and cast it to a speaker or something. Yes I have embraced the convinencecucked experience.

Winamp is, despite newer programs available, still the best choice for music.
I started using it in 1997, when Frankel released his first version of the player and i am still using it as my main music player

Of course and xmms. The alternative was fricking windows media player.
