Anons with local libraries, how do you play your music on things that aren't a desktop PC?
Everyone says to use Navidrome, but the server is a piece of shit that doesn't fricking work properly, and finding a half-decent client isn't a cakewalk either.
The closest I've gotten to something working is foobar2000, foo_upnp and a VPN, but it's not exactly reliable.
Also, how do you actually discover and source music? There's lots of newish music that you can't actually find on soulseek or rutracker, I'd probably have to to keep paying for Spotify just to rip stuff.

I use Plexamp and have a desktop running 24/7 anyways for normal Plex for me, my wife and my buddies. There are free alternatives but im not poor and it does work really well assuming my PC is on. Cost is $80 in electricity annually and got the lifetime Plex membership on boxing day for around $80 iirc. Also works as a decent server for games if I ever need to do it.
Plexamp looks great but Plex is one of those full library management things, right? Like iTunes?
>Plex magically scans and organizes your files, automatically sorting your media beautifully and intuitively...
No thanks, I have severe autism and simply MUST manage my own files. Also I don't want to use whatever client they have on desktop, only foobar2000 is acceptable.
Sadly I'm an igayOS user, the client situation is a bit worse there. AVSub looks like it might work I guess. Navidrome is really fricky though, don't know if I could live with it.
bump because I was just looking into this, my cheap spotify sub will expire soon. awesome-selfhosted recc's Swing Music which looks like a spotify clone but I'm curious if it will expose similar bands as well as Spotify does.. I've found so many gems this way and not sure I can give that up
A $5-10 sbc with network/storage should be able to meet your needs. Just host it as a media server and then you can connect your phone media player to the server.
Navidrome (anything Subsonic really) is janky but I live with it
Desktop: just use the navidrome web ui
Android: Tempo, there's also Ultrasonic but Tempo looks nicer
Sourcing: I somehow live with soulseek, though you're right that not everything is there
If your library is not gigantic you could maybe buy a SD card/use a phone with large internal storage and use Syncthing to sync your entire library to the phone (disable syncing over mobile network).
Local music players should be less janky.
just use syncthing and sync your songs from pc to android device and then use whatever music player to play the songs
i use youtube and last.fm to music recomendations.

Airsonic-advanced. I use Ultrasonic on Android and the web version on my desktop to play from it, it's great.
My phone has a 128gb microsd so I just copy a bunch of flac files on it.
I discover music thru youtube, friends recommendations etc, then I download the artist entire discography on flac, background listen to all songs 2-3 times, then delete the songs I didn't like and keep the good ones.
Jellyfin server running on my Synology NAS. Access via web browser on laptop/desktop, Jellyfin app on my smart TV, and Finamp on Android/iOS for streaming music from it. All free and just werkz.
>Finamp
would that talk between my pc and phone the same way spotify does?
Not sure what you mean. I can tell you I forward the port for Jellyfin on my router to expose my server to the public internet. I point Finamp to my public IP address with that port, login, and I can stream all my music.
sorry, I meant I can use spotify in my car on the way to work and then use it on my desktop and it remembers what song/playlist/etc I was on seamlessly
navidrome does that
do you have alzhaimers or something??
also... just pick up your phone a second and check from the notification shade what you were playing??? is that too much effort?
why does everyone on this fricking board have to find some superduper complicated setup to automate the dumbest shit
>connect phone to pc via wired or wireless adb
>run scrcpy in raw audio only mode
>play music from phone
that's how I do it
I sync my Opus 96 kbps vbr files to a free Google drive account, 15 gigs is more than enough (about 400 albums) using odrive on pc and foldersync on my android phone
to discover new music I just dick around rateyourmusic + listen to webradios
playback happens with foobar2000 on my pc and poweramp on my phone, no server or VPN required, you are overthinking it like most IQfytards
I download music directly to my phone with the Seeker app and streamrip and khinsider and yt-dlp via the termux app.
why the frick are you transcoding to 320 kbps MP3
your phone can play opus just fine, it's higher quality and takes up 1/3 the storage
stop with this moronation
nvm I'm blind
saw way too many people do that though
navidrome with tempo is the white mans choice
