So you saw Mental outlaw video.
VPS is just another name for just another ones computer - so no.
Buy yourself some used hardware and host everything you want in your home.

I run a vpn server on a Raspberry Pi to connect to with my phone. That way my phones traffic gets filtered with a pi hole and I can access my NAS

You no longer need to worry about your ISP seeing what pages are transferred over your line. Most websites have HTTPS now.

It's the DNS requests that they track.

    Yes there is but
OpenVPN: Very shitty to set it up yourself
OpenVPN but paid: Pretty bad regardless
Wireguard: So many fricking configs, you wouldn't belive.

    My solution? Tailscale
    https://tailscale.com/
This is the best 0 config all utility VPN.
The actual code that manages connections is open source and written in go, it's built around wireguard so connections are encrypted, and cannot be tampered with.

If you're moronic you can use headscal ig

It's more needless hassle and all you're getting is a re-implementation of open source software.
Headscale gives you more freedom, yes, but it's really nothing worth the hassle to make sure open source is open source.
You also have to run your own node, and at this point i'd use a difrent solution.
I'm just fine with using tailscale.
