Do people really still care about electronics being "thin?"
I thought we reached the peak of that trend several years ago. Why did they go with this marketing angle?

>Do people really still care about electronics being "thin?"
People don't
"People" do
Who are these "people?"
zoo runoff only human by technicality
Advertising thinness is a copout for when you need to do one or both of:
>distract from cost-cutting measures
>distract from having made zero real advancements or improvements
Did you know that every iPhone since the iPhone 7 (where they removed the headphone jack and cited thinness as a justification for doing so) has been thicker than the 6s, which still had a jack?
If you’ve ever held an ipad pro you’d appreciate how they managed to make it not only more powerful but also just a bit more comfortable to hold. Because remember, tablets are meant to also be HELD so anything to make it not be a strain on the wrist is welcome
>If you’ve ever held an ipad pro
The M4 iPad isn't out yet moron you haven't held it either.
>anything to make it not be a strain on the wrist is welcome
didn’t imply I would know exactly how much lighter it feels. Read my quote, I quoted it for you, because your dumbass can’t read for shit
This sounds unironically like some flouride staring marketing monkey regurgitating an advertisement
whoever posted this slop isn't human
you should have a nice day right now
ok keyword robot
>I am literally a limp-wristed homosexual
yikes
It weighs a lot less, but thinness is easier to show in an ad
Weighing less is kind of nice for something with an end that’s eight or nine inches away from where you’re holding it
iPads already weigh nothing. Who was asking for lighter iPads?
–460g for something you can hold constantly isn't nothing, and that's just the lighter 11". 13" got about 100g lighter which is a big deal. Assuming they made the keyboard lighter too as some claim, they could finally reach the 12" Macbook weight now.
it helps ergonomically. They didn’t have to do it, they could have just stayed with the current weights but tablets aren’t like laptops, so less weight is better if possible
Less weight for laptops is better too, these are PORTABLE computers.
Yes but laptops are usually set on a surface because how else are you gonna type efficiently? A tablet’s advantage is using it while standing up, and usually you’re holding it by the bezel with one hand and using it with the other. It’s in this use case scenario specifically that less weight is beneficial on a tablet
You can use a laptop while standing too tho.
Yes but it’s not the ideal way to use it. Laptops are also larger and you gotta worry about balancing, while tablets are just like carrying a clipboard around
You have no experience with the Macbook Air if you think it's larger or harder to hold while typing than an iPad with a keyboard
>ipad with a keyboard
Ignore the keyboard, that’s secondary and not innate to the tablet. The raw tablet form factor invites people to use it much more easily than a laptop while standing, that’s the point of the tablet. Hold out a textbook vs a clipboard, the clipboard is easier and the textbook you’d want to rest on a table
It's seriously alarming how dense the average IQfy-tard is
It's nice for design POV but the primary thing here is weight reduction, thinness is just the more observable side-effect.
Thin electronics aren't a feature anymore. At some point its gotta start feeling more like a detriment since it's harder to dissipate heat from the SoC and it makes the whole thing feel less roust. I think Apple can kinda work around these issues with titanium though. They're really going hard on marketing that
I am curious about how the new pros will hold up to the bend tests. I just about laughed my ass off when the presenter said that this ipad pro was stronger than the last gen
iPads immediately go into an inch-thick case, how thin the tablet is really doesn't matter. They've just run out of things to market it with, it's the same iPad it's been for the last five years but it has the latest processor.
I don’t wanna seem like a shill but is this not a fricking miracle? How the hell did they manage this? Isn’t this shit gonna get bent?
Because it uses Titanium, and as far as I'm aware, Apple is the only company making phones and tablets with titanium because its usually pretty expensive to manufacture and mass produce, which is why you typically only see it used for aerospace applications normally.
the ss24 ultra has titanium too
>its usually pretty expensive to manufacture and mass produce
false
>which is why you typically only see it used for aerospace applications normally
false
Titanium isn't a particularly rigid material.
Strangely, steel tends to do better, which is what Apple was using on their iPhones before titanium.
Titanium is less dense and melts at a higher temperature than steel and aluminium. But these aren't really an issue on small consumer electronics.
it's got a tiny low grade strip of aluminium around the sides try to keep up
Why would it bend? The aluminium cage is still solid, there is glass on the other side and the stuff is full of components, so it's not like there is some negative pressure.
>Because it uses Titanium
Since when?
>Since when?
since literally the newest ones
I saw no mention of titanium but the usual stuff about recycled aluminium.
>I don’t wanna seem like a shill but is this not a fricking miracle
Mission failed.
finally, 38 less grams and 1 less millimetre was all i needed to stop my wrist getting snapped under the immense pressure, thank you apple!
1mm less is almost 20% thinner on an already thin device. I’m surprised they managed to even shave off that much especially with that dual panel thing going on with their OLED display
OLED is still thinner than LCD, and with a more efficient SOC and screen, they need less battery to hit their 10h target.
The battery is actually bigger on the latest model.
33Wh compared to 27Wh on the previous 11".
In 11" which is about the same weight anyway, 13" one is quite a bit smaller.
next ipad should be 4mm thin and 500g. tablets have peaked in performance. Might as well see how close we can get it to cardstock and we’d be cutting ourselves with it
So don't bend it
>Because it uses Titanium
They use recycled aluminum, shill
https://www.apple.com/ca/ipad-pro/specs/
>ctrl+F "materials"
I could have eaten that Ipad. What a waste
>Isn’t this shit gonna get bent?
Coming pre-bent is standard for iPads now.
Less thin a coin!
>Verification not required.
I only care about weight
oddly enough being thinner stands out again nowadays after the thickening of almost every computing device recently. I think the last time thin was a selling point was the iPhone 6
I don't read on my iPad because it's too heavy
They made it for ME
Depend on race and gender.
I, for one, like my $1000 electronics to be as slippery and breakable as possible
Sorry about your parkinson's or w/e nerve disease you're suffering from.
>muh weight
Just how fricking absurd are you? Can't even beat a 5-year-old little girl in an arm-wrestling match?
Always increasingly ridiculous. Bunch of emasculated femboys.
These jackasses still overdoing it with the overly-inane "muh thinness". Gosh damn I hate Apple for a bunch of reasons, this being one of them because all the other jackasses out there tag along like the stupid monkeys they are, and gadgets and laptops just get ridiculous and stupid with all the compromises for the sake of utterly idiotic thinness.
Light weight is cool, but within reason. Thin is cool, but while it remains sensible.
Workers wi.e., none of you losers) who have to carry tablets around for their jobs have straps on their tablets so they can let them hang from the shoulder like a messenger bag or from the neck like a nametag on a lanyard.
Have you ever considered that you're the moron?
they’re not making compromises here dumbass. You’re just poor and brown
cope, seethe, and dilate your axe-wound, delusional femboy
>xhe instantly chimps out
I replied to he who chimped out, dumb chimp
>gosh damn
>calls others femboys
Oh the irony!
Who the frick uses tablets?
most people
>Oh the irony!
because they have nothing left to show off.
they did absolutely no research or development but also don't want to put macos onto the ipads
better cameras? doesn't matter. better screen? not really that dramatic. better sound? ... it's a tablet, you'll be using headphones.
nothing to do and nowhere to go, they're floundering.
At all costs they must distract from the fact that the specs can support MacOS EASILY but they hate you and want your money money money
Thanks Microsoft surface pro 9
i don't understand it.
i'd appreciate if my phone was thicker and had a longer battery life.
the design is moronic. my phone is so wide and unwieldy i often can't hit stuff on the bottom left corner with my thumb, without accidentally touching the screen with my palm. i have to shift my grip to use one hand. that doesn't have anything to do with it being thin but i still don't like it.
>i often can't hit stuff on the bottom left corner with my thumb, without accidentally touching the screen with my palm. i have to shift my grip to use one hand.
Get yourself a case with some nice thicc raised bezels. Otterbox should be fine. Thank me later.
I like my technology thicc.
1mm more thickness and you could have 50% more battery life:
>30h battery life (apple claims are extra conservative) at cost of 100g on a device you can use in your hands
Doesn't sound like a great deal.
less is more. also the marketing works. it gets a lot of (you) to use the IQfy lingo.
