>just make your trackpad worse to use a worse version of something we already had
homie we literally already have tap to click too, what's the problem with physical buttons?

>configurability is bad
You can have the whole trackpad, or you can adjust it to act just like a trackpad with two buttons. And you can switch between the two, or other options, as you please. Meanwhile with dedicated buttons they're just buttons. You can't turn them into more trackpad.

Why remove the option of having non-homosexual buttons to click things with, then? Just make them programmable. That would be great. In fact, throw in the extra ones like on this laptop!

I think
Laptops with mouse buttons? Yep, still made. Business types, like ThinkPad, got 'em.
is the way to go. You get your buttons when you're using the TrackPoint and you can add them if you want for the trackpad. You can choose how many too. You could have two, three, or four clicks. It's multitouch too so left clicking with one finger can be different than with two and so on.
There's no tactile feel to differentiate the buttons. I'm always hitting right click when I want to left click or middle clicking when I wanted to right click. With dedicated buttons I can find and use them without having to look at the trackpad.

Sounds like you just suck. It's really not that hard to press the left half when you want to press the left half.

How am I supposed to know I'm on the left half without looking if there's no way to tell by feel? The only way I can do it reliably is to drag my finger all the way to the left edge of the touchpad, which is a real hassle since modern touchpads are a mile long.

This has been a consistent ergonomic issue and is extremely well-documented 🙂
