Plenty of good anime have better manga. Plenty of good manga have no anime adaptation.
You can't pirate most manga either. I pay a lot more on digital manga than I did on my tablets.
The only manga I have ever found difficulty pirating are obscure, old, and untranslated. I have never paid a cent to read manga.

I only use my computer for work. My only other device with a screen is old iphone i only keep because my work forces me to have a phone number. The only use it sees is picking up calls from my mum. I spend my free time on walks in nature, bouldering, yoga, reading classics and cooking

I own a number of physical manga, but honestly, I think I prefer reading on a tablet. Same goes with books, in that it's better experience on my Kindle.
A boox note air three b/w. I originally purchased it for PDF scans of books but it works great for manga. The color version might be better but also more expensive.
I have a color boox e reader. I overall like it but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you tried it out in person first or bought it somewhere that you could return it no questions. The ghosting is very noticeable and depending on what you read it’s a dealbreaker. I read books and manga and have it setup to just do a full refresh of the screen each page turn which eliminates the issue at the cost of speed and a bit of battery life. The battery still lasts for the better part of a week and a page turn still happens in under a second. But if you read shit like webtoons where you constantly scroll 40 pages each chapter you have to turn that off and change the screen quality to make ghosting less prominent and it’s not nearly as nice. I don’t really read that stuff so I don’t care.
Obviously I read all my manga on my ereader via tachiyomi. It’s all selfhosted too on a komga instance, frick mangadex and the like. All my books and comics are on there too. Scrape metadata automatically with komf when stuff gets added so it looks nice
On a ten years old 4/3 tablet. Such a shame nowadays tablets are only 16/9...

There have been tons for years? Pick your ideal size and find one with a decent panel. If it’s super cheap (eg ~$50) you’ll probably have to actually download the manga and load it to the device, if you spend a bit more (~$150+) you’ll be more likely to get a tablet with an eink screen that can load tachiyomi and just pull from whatever website. You can spend way more if you want a device that’s large, color, etc but those all come with trade offs like significantly heavier, the color screens aren’t as good as b/w, etc

I just bought picrel to partially replace my aging Kindle Oasis, did I make the right choice? I think I'll probably keep using the Oasis for regular books (especially now that I have KOReader on it), but I bought the new one for manga primarily.
7.8" is too small for manga. 13" is optimal and 10" doable.
I see where you're coming from, but I've been getting by (mostly) fine on that Kindle I mentioned. So this is actually a bit of an upgrade for me screen size wise.
