Does anyone get scared not just of their characters dying, but also having your protagonists or main characters kill? It's not easy for me to envision my characters killing, even if it's an encounter where they have to defend themselves.

OP I would just listen to interviews of people who have had to kill someone. Soldiers, cops, abuse victims, organized criminals. I think if you've ever been in a fist fight where you had intentions of hurting a person, even in self defense, then you can draw on those thoughts and emotions and get close to the thought process of what it might feel like during and after.
