Does Pascal's wager discourage radical religiousness since if afterlife doesn't exist then you'll just waste your only life?
Does Pascal's wager discourage radical religiousness since if afterlife doesn't exist then you'll just waste your only life?
Luckily the only real contender these days is Christianity and it will give you a better life
>says as he wastes his only life arguing against a being he doesn't believe in
>the only real contender these days is Christianity
yes because their idea of salvation from "original" sin makes so much sense
>it will give you a better life
You'll have a drastically harder time finding a wife if you refuse to have sex while dating.
>people with premarital partners are 161% more likely to dissolve their marriages compared to people who tie the knot as virgins
Sounds better to me even just on a personal level, ignoring the money, children and the wider community
Still won't be good for you if you can't get married because no woman wants to date some dweeb who's not down to frick tho.
Christians can’t date nonchristians though.
Currentyear "Christians" want sex before marriage too.
>inb4 not real christians
And there's the radically reduced dating pool I was talking about.
You're a massive outlier.
>most women don’t want to sleep around all over the place
Most women want to have sex while dating. This isn't even about "sleeping around all over the place", even a woman who will end up having maybe one or two partners over the entire course of her life will likely want to frick them while dating.
>Your brain is destroyed by porn rot
I don't watch porn.
um...source I haven't heard the stats on this? People are having more pre-martial sex now and it's not leading to more marriages. Getting laid isn't a challenge and getting with someone who is only using you for sex isn't the ideal way to get into a relationship
People who don't have sex before marriage are already different.
I managed to find a virgin wife. There are good Christian women out there, and most women don’t want to sleep around all over the place. Your brain is destroyed by porn rot
It makes more theological sense to marry a former bawd though, in imitation of God’s relationship to us sinners.
No it doesn’t
t. tradLARPing nonbelievers
>he never called me a liar
That has been noted rabbi.
LMAO Christ did not marry Mary Magdalene
most men do. and to be fair vast majority of men also use prostitutes before marriage. i actually agree with you although i personally have no interest in marrying a prostitute.
What if you're gay though?
KEEEEEEEK
I wouldn't say so since by that point it wouldn't matter, that being said pascals wager is just flawed to begin wtih since the moment you take into account the huge amount of religious beliefs that there are the entire idea falls apart
>then you'll just waste your only life?
This only applies if you think the meaning of life is debauchery and sin.
debauchery and sin hell yeahhhh
The point of life is worshipping a fairytale?
If religion isn't real, you'll be too dead to care.
Its been argued that its actually better to be an atheist within the context of Pascals Wager, since God has not presented evidence for himself, its assumed he does not want you to believe in him, unless you believe religion itself is Gods way of manifesting proof of his existence, but we just don't know for sure whether or not that's true.
>if afterlife doesn't exist then you'll just waste your only life?
you can't waste your life unless your life is supposed to be used for something other than what you're using it for.
if the afterlife doesn't exist what am i supposed to use my life for? whatever i want, right? so that means even if i literally did nothing, my life isn't wasted because there's no point in being alive.
why deny even pointless frivolities if it's just for a slim possibility that you'll be rewarded in the life thereafter? Not even all of the very religious are willing to deny deep desires for their religion
Pascal’s wager is fundamentally flawed because it acts as if believing that God is real is something you can choose. If somebody asked you whether or not you believe in Bigfoot and you said “well I’m 99% sure he’s not but I’ll pretend like he is anyway because there’s no downside to doing that” then nobody would interpret that as you actually believing in Bigfoot.
Common objection which Pascal himself answered - fake it till you make it. How effective that is today as opposed to during Pascal's time is another question.
