Doesn't use GPS. Doesn't use rechargeable batteries. Tracking isn't real-time.
What the hell are these for, AppleTards?

I like watching my luggage travel around the airport to the plane
Only reason why I bought them
put em on my car so i can find it in a parking lot. luggage as said. when my kid starts toddling, i'll put one on her too in case she wanders off too far. and lol at the poors like
That's the whole point regard. It doesn't have GPS so you don't need an expensive carrier plan and it uses single use batteries so it can last a fricking year and not just 1 month.
My carrier would give free 2G unlimited data THO
2g is dead in some countries, 3g is next
they're gonna kill 3G before 2G here, no one uses that shit while 2G still has a lot of legacy systems running on it
3g already is dead on major US carriers.
They killed 3g due 4/5g exist but 2g is for legacy. 2g would be great for airtags. But apple just sells shit to uninformed customers.
The whole point of the Airgays is to never work reliably? Okay.
From what I've heard they work fairly well considering the scale of the Apple network.
In comparison small GPS enabled trackers of similar price are much worse.
The GPS system is free to use, moron. It's prepaid for by the government.
>The GPS system is free to use, moron.
You have to communicate to the device with the GPS receiver somehow.
what is UART?
bro GPS satellites just beam down a clock on a specified band
you don't have to pay for it
A GPS system requires a lot more power than a low energy bluetooth signal that actually does nothing, like the airtag.
And yes you need to get the location data from the tracker to you somehow. Only other option is mobile data that also uses a lot more power and costs money. It needs to be 20x bigger, 10x more expensive and will last a month or two tops.
The airtag system is actually genius. Evil genius, but still. With one update your iphones cell data and GPS is used to locate other peoples airtags without your consent. There are many tracker companies that have been around for more than 10 years, but they were never able to make a product as good as this. Apple could do it because they have full control over the millions of iphones everywhere, and can use them as a global mesh network as they wish. The only other company in the world that could make a competing product is google.
(cont) you could have one with a GPS receiver that still uses peoples phones to send the location data to you, but it would only be marginally more precise. If there is multiple phones, or a single phone that is moving while the airtag is stationary, the location can be triangulated and be as precise as GPS.
It does use the GPS, batteries, CPU and data of nearby iphones.
You got somewhat big devices for animals and cars that use real gps. Why they can't make it small
So they are a botnet for it? IToddlers truly btfo. Imagine your balls overheat due nearby pooch airtag
Are they assuming most people use iPhones?
They know a sufficient number of people use iphones to relay data through them.
They know a third of the planet uses an iPhone. Unless Google builds a device tracker protocol into Android, Air tags will have a better network.
android phones do detect if airtags are following you around though.

robbing yo crackkka ass
cheaper way to track my car in case its gets Black personed. You have to remove the speaker bTw
These things are useless, I always get notifications on android whether there's one near me (As long as I have bluetooth turned on) and it lets me ring their tone or disable them.
ok nevermind it only lets you ring them without notifying the owner. they might still be useful if you place them somewhere a thief cannot access them though,
I'd still rather get a real GPS tracker.
ewaste. at least it's not a vape i guess.
Name one comparable alternative.
>>What the hell are these for, AppleTards?
stalking your ex
They are for the apple toddlers yes. The ones who put their whole identity behind the perception of being at the forefront of technology despite the many glaring limitations.
>forefront of technology
lmao
gigachad response
wrong kind of pussy to be tracking.
apple's way of finding out how many apple devices have bluetooth turned in a specific area. apple user spy tags.
They were great for keeping track of my stuff and some packages while I was traveling to Japan and then Taiwan. When I moved I had tags in my car and a PODS container. The later was unnecessarily delayed for multiple weeks. A service rep claimed it was enroute and was totally unprepared for me to know it was still sitting in their warehouse.
It's pretty brilliant to simply conscript your user base into making a system like this work and Apple's probably the only company that could pull that off. The number of users who opt out of the device location services I would imagine is very low.
Keeping airlines and logistics carriers honest is a big one. Screw ups happen, but Lufthansa were so unprepared for customers to be able to call them out on lies in real time they tried to violate the ICAO treaty by banning them. Air Canada got caught giving "lost" and "unclaimed" luggage to a 3rd party for disposal multiple months early ahead of their own policies.
It's technology in motion, fluid art... when you want your prostitute of a husband to stop cheating on you, so you put one in his fanny pack and follow him to his boyfriend's apartment and take justice in your own hands... then you realize you were never married.
It's a phenomenal device.
i put one on my cat
That's the point. GPS would've drained the battery in few hours.
>he
I put one of these behind the toilet so I will know who stole my toilet
bro i placed this thing 2m away from me and real time tracking still told me it was too far
>Doesn't use rechargeable batteries.
so more e-waste? Didn't they remove the charge because muh environment?
