I'm too poor to run the AC so I only have a small desk fan. Plus I think a possum died in the duct work last summer because I heard a really loud growling/hissing sound then all the vents in my house had an extremely fish smelling odor coming from them. Either that or I was being gassed without my knowledge. Good thing my doors are made of whood.

better get that shit out of the vents.

With all the money you're saving not running AC the least you could do is get the dead animals out of your vents you fricking troglodyte.

I'm gonna be real with ya, my AC hasn't worked in like 20 years. This is the reason why theres wild fricking animals running around under my house. I might crawl under there to look at its skeleton one day though just out of curiosity.

it's alway weird to hear about people who can't run AC because of a power bill, I live by myself in a 3 bedroom house, keep my house at exactly 70 degrees year round, have a PC with two 3090's that I never turn bother to turn off and I am constantly running a 3D printer and I leave lights on 24/7, my power bill has never gone over like $175 and I never even bother checking it, like how poor can you be?

Seconding this. I hear people who b***h about someone leaving a light on and how it costs them too much and how they should turn it off.
Black person if you can't afford to run a light bulb for a few extra hours you have bigger financial problems and can't afford where you live.

How fricking expensive is electricity where you live? For me running the ac or not for most of the day is about a $10 difference per month at most.

we just make the numbers up based on quarterly predictions because the rate commission won't let us raise our prices frequently enough

Check your bill. The meter is accurate. What isn't accurate is your power company. Despite the meter fricking spoon feeding them information they still frick it up.

    >Get new "efficient" AC unit

Efficient is globohomosexual double speak, truly efficient refrigerants (R12) have been banned since the 90's

Why doesn't a competitor create a more efficient AC refrigerant then?

Regulation bloat makes it impossible for competitors to enter the space

          sure, but once you're there.
          you have a massive market.

seems odd there is not some investment group at least interested. all you need is a bunch of scientists and lawyers.

or do suicides suddenly happen to anyone threatening the current patents?

The obvious question. If R12 is efficient and patent free then companies would use it.

I used to have a 92 Chevy Lumina with R12, and the AC in that car would get so cold I swear you could frost up the windows if you wanted.

Maybe if there was a hypergolic HFC so if there was a leak it would burn off instantly we could have the best of both worlds.
Of course your AC failing would turn into a rocket but that's ok because it helps save the environment.

Based. Mine's of a similar vintage but it's a different unit. If this thread's still up when I get home and I'm not too tired I'll take some pictures or at least look up the model. It works pretty well but I need to find a new gasket/seal for the door and the freezer gets ice buildup pretty quickly.

I remember reading an article from a dutch university that discovered that smart meters are often inaccurate when measuring non-linear loads. Most counted too much, some counted less than was consumed, maybe you are experiencing something similar
