Also in a real oven you can space out the food so they cook evenly.
Especially french fries, the thing they shill them the most with, always end up burnt on top and raw on the bottom, every time. Then they just tell you to “shake it” every 5 minutes, so they can blame you

      > Have to shake it
You don’t cook a steak on one side, do you?
Also, turn the temp down. Of course you’re going to burn the top if you’re trying to cremate them at max temp

It's just a small oven, but that's still a convenient thing to have depending on what you cook. Doesn't take half an hour to preheat.

I have the one in your pic and it's awesome
It IS just a small oven, but the difference is that it becomes hot in 1 minute and that the small size and high wind speed mean that it cooks extremely fast.
I cook almost anything in it that isn't a liquid. It replaces your pan too, except for high quality steak.
I use it to cook fries, salmon steak, sausages, vegetables, minced meat, baguettes (halved), cheeses, chicken...
I don't use my oven anymore except to make brownies.

If you can't have two layers in your airfryer then it's honestly just half as useful.
I'd return it and get the Xiaomi airfryer in the OP pic, it's a 10/10.
But get the version without the glass window. It's cheaper and dishwasher safe. The glass window isn't dishwasher safe.

The best bit is: You're heating the whole kitchen, wasting energy for nothing

Ovens use more energy than airfryers.

A convection oven uses 2000 to 5000 watts, needs 10+ minutes to preheat, and then another 20 mintues to cook the fries.

Meanwhile an airfryer only uses 1500 watts, doesn't need any preheating, and cooks the fries in 15 minutes.
If you do the math, the oven uses like twice as much electricity.

That's true, they're for 1 to 3 persons. Ideal for singles and couples.
If you need 1kg of fries you're cooking for a large family and then you need to use an oven. Or do two batches.

Also, with an oven you need to carefully arrange the fries on the tray so that they aren't too close to each other, and then when you want to take them out you need to take them off the tray carefully or you spill them.

Meanwhile with an airfryer you just dump them in the bucket, and when they're done you dump the bucket on the plate. Saves so much time and effort

You're supposed to dump half of them in there, and the other half on top of the grill which is shown here:

The most concerning thing is that no companies that traditionally make ovens have gotten in on airfryers, just chink companies and companies that flip chinkshit.
If NEF, Bosch, Miele, AEG, etc. started making them, maybe i'd take it seriously as a real appliance.

I want a microwave with air fryer/convection built in. LG and KitchenAid have them, probably more brands do now. Seems like a good feature and saves the space of having a separate countertop air fryer. I could use that space for a stand mixer, always wanted one of those.

It’s called cope, the business divisions that made ovens would veto the whole thing, since they know that air friers replace ovens almost completely in most homes.

A lot of the anons shilling ovens here don't realize how large of a percentage of first world countries are pod-people in megacities and have a 4ftx4ft apartment, eat only frozen food, and live alone or with their partner and no kids. And that's only going to get worse and worse. In that situation, an air frier is objectively better than an oven. More efficient, less space, large enough to cook what you need, etc. The oven of the dystopian future is an air frier.

if you wanted a convection function, automatic timer and some steam, what do you do? Pay $2k or w/e to replace your good old well-liked oven or get one of these?

Some of these also have good top/bottom grill type heating BTW, but if it's more than top heat + convection they often build them like a conventional oven with front trays.

It easily can be a small oven with better convection and steam function than many people had/have in their big ovens. it may be easier to clean via dishwasher or even in a sink (because not everyone had a large sink either).

IMO a pretty nice cooking tool.
