I watched the 1998 Godzilla recently, and the director included the corrupt and incompetent Mayor Ebert character because he was butthurt over one of his reviews.

      >Going to see Godzilla at the Palais of the Cannes Film Festival is like attending a satanic ritual in St. Peter’s Basilica. It’s a rebuke to the faith that the building represents. Cannes touchingly adheres to a belief that film can be intelligent, moving and grand. Godzilla is a big, ugly, ungainly device to give teenagers the impression they are seeing a movie.
Holy shit, if I were Roland Emmerich I would have killed myself after that

Considering Gallo's politics I'd have thought him saying someone had the physique of slave trader was meant to be taken as a compliment.

I don't know why Gallo had such a bone to pick with Ebert when every other critic was trashing The Brown Bunny at that year's Cannes too.

because ebert was hailed as some god of criticism when real ones noticed he had incredibly gay opinions. Sure he wrote beyond the valley of the dolls and was well spoken, but he also docked points from conan because the image of conan holding doom's head evoked "aryan white supremacist imagery". i fricking spit on that fat homosexuals grave, PTOOEY

The Brown Bunny has a 47% rating at RT. So he isn't cowering to peer pressure.

Honestly, I find the "Brown Bunny" story with Ebert so fascinating. He said that watching his colonoscopy onscreen was more interesting than watching the original cut, but gave the recut version a 3/4 star rating.

I guess it really shows how you can save a film in the editing room.

I remember hearing the slave trader line and laughing my ass off. Clever and accurate. Ebert's gay "one day I will be X but you will always be Y" is a school yard comeback. Might as well say you're rubber and he's glue.

He's right though, Brown Bunny is just self indulgent nothingness with a "here's why" at the end

Seriously it’s not even the weekend and you’re still thinking about Roger Ebert’s slack lips jibbering all over your wiener.

Grow up and stop being weird.
