Honestly speaking, I don't know what happened these past two releases of gnone, for some reason it literally doesn't work anymore on any of my computers, and on my laptop it throws kernel panics constantly.
Although fedora works somewhat well for some reason, knowing that fedora is extremely bugged.
Now try running it in a vm and see how flawlessly it runs

wwut? the dgx and a/h100 run on Linux. in fact you probably can't use anything else if you want to use their mesh/interconnects. it's just that their proprietary drivers just work. As long as you use Ubuntu, which is usually the most supported distro by nvidia, it truly just works. everything from GPU containers, to nvlink, to vgpus work perfectly. But they are a shitshow if you use a rolling distro with kernel updates.
I use it(with extensions+tweaks obviously).
Plasma runs like shit for me and constantly breaks more than any other DE I've used, I also hate how it looks by default.
Xfce works fine, but looks and feels ancient.
Cinnamon just feels like Gnome that haven't been updated in 5 years.
God I hope Cosmic turns into something decent.
Openbox without windows decorations, with basic macro for minimizing, closing, moving things out etc, and its the best fairly lightweight WM. Coupled with suckless tools, it runs on a 30yo machine smoothly.

Ironically what's the use case of mandatory CSDs? They're just lazy pieces of shit, can't even copy MacOS right. Only like 20% of applications are complex enough to require CSDs.
This, more software need to tell Gnome to frick off. Have them write and maintain their own subpar alternatives to every application that doesn't work. Killing Gnome and hard reset GTK is the one thing i'd love to do if i had the money.

Gnome's goal when they push CSD is sabotage of competition: make programs only look right under Gnome but inconsistent under other DEs.

users don't give a frick that the gnome devs are morons. they paid money to play factorio and if you don't give them that despite saying that you support linux then you are basically scamming them. hence why a lot of gamedevs dont bother and just say they don't support linux or only support a limited subset of it.

yes, from an ideological standpoint not supporting gnome is the right thing to do because gnome devs made the wrong choices and should face the consequences.
but people are running a company, their livelihoods depend on shipping something that just works. nobody cares about ideology when you're just trying to make sure that your users can use your product.

When Gnome and KDE were the only options, I settled for Gnome but was happy to move to xfce. Xfce on MX is the bees knees.

I don't recall, this was back in 2015 when they made an update requiring the pulse shared library to run. I believe they said it was requested but they dismissed people's complaints saying it'd work 'out of the box' with most distros. You'd have to look in their forums, I could be remembering wrong.

Seriously, pipewire fixes a lot of issues with the Linux audio stack. Its been a god send for working with DAW software.

Window's and OSX's audio stacks are also shit, but for completely different reasons each as well.
Its kind of crazy how audio was a solved fricking issue in the 00s, and it got all sorts of fricked in the 2010s. The best audio stack has to be XP's, in part because a lot of it was left to the device driver, less so the OS it self, and if you had quality made gear you can still get the lowest latency audio on XP over anything else today, still.

Literally everything just werks. Even shit like running FLStudio in Wine, I'm able to get consistent 6ms audio without even using the custom Wine ASIO driver. If you use pipewire's JACK compatibility, you can get it down to 3-4ms of latency, but that you'll need to use native JACK compatible apps with.
Using pure ALSA with a DAW in Wine gave me about 33ms for the best latency possible and it still would shit it self with audio pops at times.
I'm even just using an old version thats in the Ubuntu 22.04 repository, and it still that much better then using the god awful non-sense that was pulseaudio.
Reality is, ALSA does a poor job handling anything in realtime nativly. You actually get significantly better results with middleware oddly enough. Its funny, because its the exact opposite issue you face in Windows. You use ASIO drivers specifically to bypass as much of the the Window's audio stack as one can.

pipewire is a layer on top of ALSA. It cant have lower latency than ALSA alone
what's the point of a titlebar for a game? When I see a titlebar when I play a game, it's usually because there is a problem in the options that I need to fix like the fullscreen option is not checked.

Feels good to be a Slackware user. Patrick was one of the first people to flat out reject GNOME and it will never be implemented on his distro as long as he lives.
The only way to fight back against this is to support Linux distos that completely REJECT GNOME compatibility. It's not enough to use a different WM. The Wayland and GNOME shills keep infiltrating everything like a fricking moss.
But there are a number of distros that flat out reject GNOME.
Seek them out.

I like GNOME for one reason only. It's great for my drawing tablet. I have a 2 in 1 tablet laptop with hyprland for laptop usage and GNOME for drawing.
GNOME is absolute garbage and yet the only thing I can find usable on linux.
Plasma is unstable, boasts about features but lacks some, and there is just no way to make it look semi decent. Padding is just all over the place.
XFCE would be sort of alright, but there's no gayland support. Cinnamon and MATE have that problem too. Cinnamon is also fairly broken in regards to how it handles my displays.
I considered using Hyprland but I'm not into basic window managers all that much
