>Everyone jizzes over Japan's Sengoku Jidai
>No one knows Norway had a bloody civil war for over 100 years
Come on fellas, it's pretty cool too
>Everyone jizzes over Japan's Sengoku Jidai

Sorry white devils have no history
Got some sweet art depicting when they finally managed to keep a king alive for a few seconds and ended the civil war
>No major cities
>No major castles
That's pretty much why it's not popular. Japan gets the spotlight because it was already a decently urbanized society which kind of mirrored the developed parts of Europe in many ways. Cities like Kyoto and Edo were proper big cities, and the overall infrastructure of the country was reasonably impressive
>le epic japanese wooden forts
dumb weeb
Samurai > vikings
Viking naval technology was vastly superior to Japanese.
And? Who gives a shit? Just face the fact that all you will ever be discussed for is Leif Erikkson or some other homosexual at best.
That's cool, but 90% of people know frick all about sailing and normies don't care about nautical history outside of the Golden Age of Piracy.
How often do you see Portuguese fanboys gushing over Caravelas?
wow they had better ships, this totally makes up for everything else
I mean its also pretty funny how well after several decades of the king dying he still had alleged brothers and bastard children popping up who were in the 20s or 30s. It goes to levels of Dmitry ivanovich impersonation. (Although only one of those became king)
what's it called and are there any decent books on the subject in english
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_war_era_in_Norway
maybe if you guys gave it a cooler name.
Like we have the Hundred Years War, Year of the ___ Emperors, Three Kingdoms, etc.
It has a cool name in norwegian, but what are we supposed to call it in english, we already have a hundred years war, norway wasn't an empire at the time. The only name I can imagine is "The war where 10,000 random pretenders came out of the floorboards every 10 minutes"
I don't know maybe the Bastards' war?
kino
>~~*game of thrones*~~ tier shit
No wonder you’re the inferior Germanics.
Call it the The Lay of 30 or however many men claimed to be King.
The conflict literally started because no one liked the king's bastard heir
>The Lay of 30
Makes it sound like a French woman named it.
How about the Branch-Blood wars? As the branches of family trees fought, and they had the blood of kings. Ties in nicely to the Birch legs too.
A medieval Norwegian would never say "Branch-Blood war"
>Some contemporary accounts show people viewed the civil war era as notably different from what had gone before. Theodoricus the Monk, who wrote a history of Norway in Latin c. 1180, decided to end with the death of King Sigurd the Crusader in 1130 as he considered it "... utterly unfitting to record for posterity the crimes, killings, perjuries, parricides, desecration of holy places, the contempt for God, the plundering no less of the clergy than of the whole people, the abductions of women and other abominations which it would take long to enumerate"
>The English historian William of Newburgh, writing c. 1200, writes of Norway that
"... for more than a century back, although the succession of kings there had been rapid, yet none of them had ended his days by age or sickness, but all had perished by the sword, leaving the dignity of empire to their assassins as their lawful successors; so that, indeed, the expression, "Hast thou killed, and also taken possession?" [cf. 1 Kings 21:19] may seem to apply to all who reigned there for so long a space of time."
>Y'all couldn't behave, so I didn't record the history
Kek
>Norway
>actually the contraction of North-Way
C R I N G E
For me, it's the Birch-Legs
Normies think Scandinavian history ended after Viking age
In school, after we learn about the Black plague we skip to the Romanticism of the 18th century. So while I like Norwegian history, even our own history teachers think it's boring for about 500 years
Might be just a pride thing.
After all, god knowns how long of "We were a danish colonial possesion" probably isn't very exciting.
On the other hand its probably a strategic omission. I have a romanian friend who had a history class that curiously skipped every part of romanian history when they were a beyilik, only talked about when they were killing turks.
Norwegian schools only teach 1800s parliamentary history about sverdrup and then a little bit about the postwar AP era. We had literally nothing about anything pre 1800.
>why does no one care about "place_holder_irrelevantNation" unimportant civil war?
Uh, truly a question for the ages.
Almost like Norway is an irrelevant shithole and Japan is interesting and worth being a subject of discussion.
Norway is many things, but shithole definitely ain't one lmao.
That being said, yeah it's kind of a backwater in European history. Very much a "kid at the back corner of the class" type of country compared to France, Italy, Germany, etc
Norway invaded England Scotland Ireland Iceland Greenland Russia Byzantium Palestine etc moron
>greatest claim to fame is small scale chimpouts
And no one fricking knows or cares why? Piss off Sven, it's time for Tojo to bend you over.
Of all these places, only Byzantium and Palestine were relevant at the time. Scotland and England and Russia were oogabooga kingdoms and Greenland and Iceland might as well have been the fricking moon
>might as well have been the fricking moon
implying we didn't go to the moon
I've got a vague knowledge of it, since the century of Norwegian weakness was pretty important for Scotland's expansion in the west and north in the period
>Everyone jizzes over war in a large civilized nation
>No one knows about irrelevant shithole
Many such cases
I'm reading about Norwegian history at the moment in honour of my heroic ancestors. I like Erling Skjalgsson, defender of governance by chiefdom and farmerthings
>innbyrdesKRIGene
Does it sound more TRVE KVLT now?
If you like the Norwegian civil war, wait until you get a load of the Norwegian Crusade. Now there's a fun adventure
You should contact creative assembly with this, they can make a total war eras about it.
that would be fricking kino, actual scandinavia is pretty overlooked in games.
i remember a mod for medieval 2 that covered only scandinavia and a tiny part of north germany in the pre-viking-age time, was pretty interesting. was called wrath of the norsemen or something like that
