for the first time, human-like biological immortality has been praised in a show.

Think about it, there is no reason why a conscious species would not evolve to immortality. Death is the end. Keep going and having fun, right? Why not?

Will never happen. It's merging with AI or extinction.

      Brainlet take.

      >Keep going and having fun, right? Why not?
      1. It's not technologically viable in the foreseeable future, despite the technocult's utopian promises
      2. You are disposable cattle to your rulers, and they have no interest in keeping you around forever
      3. The most you'd get is a McLife(tm) yearly subscription that will be used as leverage to keep you in line
      4. It's an obscenely narcissistic idea that you should stick around forever and pollute the future with your current year beliefs and worldview

      >4. It's an obscenely narcissistic idea that you should stick around forever and pollute the future with your current year beliefs and worldview
An other brainlet take that death is necessary because people can't change their beliefs.

There is a very good reason. One of the only things that makes existence bearable is the knowledge that every king, every butthole, no matter how depraved, dies and becomes nothing again in a few years on the outside, just like everybody else. Biological immortality is an abomination of an idea.

Better that the entire species go extinct than that a single organism escape into arbitrarily long perpetuity.

      >Better that the entire species go extinct than that a single organism escape into arbitrarily long perpetuity.
A very dumb post by a butthurt loser.

Immortality is one of the moron filters. If you are against immortality you fail the filter. The only problem is that our current understanding of reality indicates it's not possible. We'd need some big shifts in physics to change this.

This. The brain is effectively immortal already yet people's minds degrade when they age.

What a moronic fricking statement. Is the mind not part of the brain? You think old people becoming more moronic as they age is completely disconnected from the aging of the brain?

Many throughout history have had pliable minds, think DaVinci. There are fascinating people who continued learning and growing into their 80s. The mind never needs to shut down and cut off to possibility. Any non-moron knows this.

Immortality massively increases the resource burden by preventing deaths and brings genetic stagnation which greatly increases risk to the gene line long term. Even if it was possible, immortality benefits the individual at a terrie and likely fatal cost to the species.

      Anonymous

      But that's hogwash however.

      Immortality does not imply:
      1) people stop having babies
      2) a resource burden especially when tech advances well into TYPE II on The Kardashev scale
      3) that people won't still die, some people like you will still want to, other people can extend as long as they want to. There will still be tragic accidents and crime causing death.

        Anonymous

They don't have to stop having babies, the DNA of the children will converge because it's the same people procreating.

    >there is no reason why a conscious species would not evolve to immortality
You don't understand evolution. Unless you're using "evolve" as a mere synonym of "change".
Most of our constituent genes are already immortal, as they've been copied more or less exactly since the beginning of mankind by the process of sexual reproduction. The genes have no incentive to give us bodily immortality.
