I just learned what this meant today. I felt a bit older today. It's kinda moronic since just saying "No shit?" is both faster and less characters.
I was working around some younger black men installing part of an AC system today and actually heard one of them say 'for real for real.' I always assumed this was just an internet convention rather than an adaption of actual language. Interesting. A white guy drove up to check on them as I was leaving, so I assume they weren't very good at their jobs.
My boomer self figured they would say "fra fra" instead of saying "for real for real". Not sure why they would want to say something twice when they could just say "no shit?"
'no shit' isn't the translation though. 'fr fr'/'for real for real' is just nonsense added at the end of a statement that already speaks for itself. This isn't a new trend, I'm sure you've noticed that unintelligent people feel the need to fill the air with words, even when they're unnecessary.
