He has some cool ideas and writes some stuff that can help people, but man, does he veer into schizo territory with the religious bs. Jung would be among my favorites if he didn’t go off the rails like he does

I cant take pseuds citing this guy anymore. It's always the same frickin talk ad infinitum "you gotta embrace your shadow, you gotta face your dark side duuuude. Why?? Uhh, because, it represents, like, the evil you are capable of, and we need to face that evil, because it's, uhh, your shadow."

Well yeah, because you need to know yourself. Why? Because if you don't know yourself then you'll frick yourself with neuroticism.

The ancients didn't have this problem. Jung is a modernist cope for being an urbanite.

As this thread shows, almost everything you read online about "Jung" is written by people who have not read Jung, but have just heard about him via Jordan Peterson, Alan Watts, or someone like that, or who have read some of his quotes, or maybe some of his most accessible writings. They either lump him in with Freud (who was completely different) and dismiss him, or simplify his work with new age readings, or otherwise misunderstand or twist him to fit their narratives. But Jung is not the kind of thinker you can come to terms with like that. He's complicated and requires actual, intensive readings, as well as experience with the real phenomena about which he writes. And his quotes don't work well on their own.

The archetypes imposed upon the common man didn’t exist before, they only came within the Kali Yuga. There was no Kabbalistic prophesy within the ages before ours, tarot was not of israeli origin either.
The Kali Yuga sets upon us this Semitic curse of archetypes, and you yourself allow this archetype to have power over you.

The obsession with the shadow is mostly an american thing btw. I have family in the jungian racket (swiss analysts) and the shadow is just one concept amongst many, and even then it's barely relevant to them. Americans only care about sensational shit.

he's a schizo and most of his work is useless. and his young fans should check out his collected works and clinical studies from his early days; he's a psycho too, like every other analyst torturing their patients. I wasted 2 years on this hack kek.

        >The obsession with the shadow is mostly an american thing btw.
Wish this was more talked about. The Shadow as a concept is tremendously overblown by American grifters who have been trying to rework Jung's schizoid fuel into self-help programs since the late 1970s (Penn and Gilette, Peterson). It became this literal antagonist demon entity that lives inside you and makes you do bad things, and you have to somehow come to terms with that, which somehow makes you a more complete human being.

        It's complete twaddle

It became the "I'm le dangerous" thing but really Jung meant it as the side of ourselves we were embarrassed by, the selfish, insecure, greedy side we pretend not to have.

            Anonymous

Most of those are social emotions, not internal ones, though. People are made insecure by the superiority of others. Embarrassment only exists when there is someone witnessing the embarrassing thing or act. Selfishness and greed is only bad insofar that it is socially detrimental to be thought of as selfish or greedy.

Jung was an actual schizophrenic with religious delusions and everything. There is no such shit as angels, alchemy or whatever, exposing mentally vulnerable people to such crap is highly dangerous and irresponsible.
While most of Freud's theories are outdated and discarded now, he came much closer to the truth - all about wieners and pussy in the end.

They're neither outdated nor discarded. For the user end they were updated by Lacan, and they still remain an integral part in the top-down psychological pathology control system (queers, trannies, radfeminists, incels etc).

Freud was all about deterministic materialism. Psychoanalysis is supposed to be a reductive kind of approach that investigates the origins of complex psychological phenomena in the most basic and primitive features of mental functioning. For Freud, at least during the time of his dispute with Jung, humans are at the bottom motivated by the desire to seek bodily pleasure, i.e., sexuality. Whether we're hungry, cold, bored, horny - we are driven to move from discomfort to satisfaction. Jung disagreed with Freud's theory that this kind of sexual motivation was the primary basis for our psychology, and said sexuality wasn't about physical pleasure, but an instinct for reproduction. He also was much more open to supernatural beliefs and took investigations of paranormal phenomenon seriously, which Freud considered ridiculous and thought made the analytic movement look bad. If you think that humans have higher spiritual motivations to achieve self-actualization, you're a Jungian. If you think humans are animals that are ultimately motivated by an urge to feel good, you're a Freudian.

Jungs use of alchemy was only to highlight the fact that Alchemy not only was the progenitor to Chemistry but also Psychology, the terms and symbols used in alchemy are no different from contemporary medical Jargon such as 'Schizophrenic' and so fourth, and if you actually read his work- he delves into the mind with the perspective of it being theory, but the fact that he tries to understand psychosis by actually emerging into the mind rather then analyzing it from the outside in is what sets him apart from contemporary psychiatric scam artists.

As much as he is right, he's more demonic than schizo -- leaving his divine fairy aside. He gave my friend psychosis; he would dose off every so often mid conversation. He's borderline schizophrenic now and it keeps getting worse in isolation. I pray no one tries his methods and treat his works as fiction.

NTA, but Jung was a full-blown occultist who conducted spiritism séances and claimed to have channelled a demon named Philemon (he specifically clarified that this wasn't a vague "mental archetype", but an actual independent entity).
