Genuinely, why is there such a stigma towards Science Fiction literature?

As far as I know, no other genre gets this treatment.

Science Fiction is a fictional genre used to split apart "respectable" works about the power of basedence (what later became hard sci-fi) and the traditional "weird" literature (horror, fantasy, adventure).
This leads to the unique position of being hated by readers of the old weird stuff for fricking up their stuff, and actual scientists for being read by midwits.
Modern stuff isn't so bad, but go back to Asimov and cohorts, their works ooze a sense of superiority because they have technology instead of magic and are enlightened by their own intelligence.

What if I told you the "actual scientists" you look up to are the midwits? (No I am not opposed to Method)

The scientific method exists to allow midwits to discover universal truths. So yes

There seems to be a disdain towards fiction in general. I think it's very important as it helps expand the mind and increase imagination and helps inspire an individual. People under sell the power of imagination and creativity but these two things are what help innovate new ideas and can help solve problems or issues. Before boats or air planes were created they were thought up and imagined before being manifested into reality. Imagination is what separates humans from animals and it's a powerful and unique trait that only us humans have that we should utilize if ever want to elevate ourselves and progress humanity forward in anyway possible. Non-fiction is great as a foundation and it's never a waste of time to indulge in obviously but Fiction is what helps propel us forward and prepares us for newer ideas and horizons.

No book does any of that to be honest. This is nonsense. Books aren't going ot make you smarter or expand your mind. Quit being so obnoxious

Journal short story fiction ruined it at the start

Pretty sure Fantasy is more hated since at least Sci-fi had some more artsy period during the Cold-war and was more important as an aesthetic during that time period. Although after the 80s fantasy became more normalgay friendly and mainstrea.

Partly because of pseuds pretending to be more cultured than they are.
Partly because too many authors sperg out about the science part and don't care about the fiction part.
Partly because the fan-base is insufferable, see literally any convention ever.
Partly because, like fantasy, it's become so oversaturated that its hard to find your bearings in it.

Mainly because the readership is often insufferable and blinded by their stemhomosexualry.

Modern sci-fi is insufferable. It's why you read old sci-fi books, and when I mean old, I mean from the 1950's backwards.

For me, pretty much every sci-fi story I've tried to read had really boring characters. Even if the writing was well done, the themes have a lot of intrigue, and the world is interesting. Bad characters made me not want to finish them. I would guess this applies to most people as well since it seems like a usual sci-fi genre problem

I find that most classic sci-fi tends to have complete sociopaths for the cast. I know they're often written by scientists with zero people skills, but frick me. Most of say, Alastair Reynolds' protagonists would be villains in any other book.

You mean on here, or in general?
IQfy seems to look down on any fiction books that aren't the most obscure thing they could think of, because it's IQfy and all boards like to do that with their medium of choice for some reason.
In general? No clue. I'd say romance novels and those Mills and Boone books that are literally porn for elderly women should be seen as worse.
