Give me reasons to preorder this laptop, and reasons not to preorder

I am seriously considering preordering the upcoming Legion 5 2022 version which would arrive next month for me. Problem is, I am genuinely a bit unsure whether to bite the bullet and get it because my previous laptop is an almost 4 year old Legion Y530 or not. So it would be great if I can get some input and second opinions on this.

The specs are..
>Processor : AMD Ryzen 7 6800H (8C / 16T, 3.2 / 4.7GHz, 4MB L2 / 16MB L3)
>RAM : 16GB (2x 8GB SO-DIMM DDR5-4800)
>Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6, Boost Clock 1702MHz, TGP 140W
>Storage : 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0x4 NVMe
>Display : 15.6" WQHD (2560x1440) IPS 300nits Anti-glare, 165Hz, 100% sRGB, Dolby Vision, Free-Sync, G-Sync, DC dimmer

I am curious if I should instead get a previous, cheaper Legion 5 model, get an Ideapad 3 instead or something else entirely. It does cost quite a fortune at $1600-1800 here

I got tired of waiting for the 6800H and bought an XMG with 5900something. It’s good but the fan is loud when the GPU is active (well, gaming shit). The 2K IPS screen is good, but not the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen, and certainly no retina.

Why would you preorder it instead of just buying it once reviews are out

By the way, what are the suggested alternatives then? I genuinely thought about looking for ones that only use RTX20- because I admit my gaming needs aren't that heavy, mainly just want current gen games to run relatively well on my comp as opposed to needing to turn everything down to low. Problem is, I am not sure what or where to look...

Well as I said, it is a temptation, but a part of me wonders if I wanted to do it...

I don't know what this costs, but legion laptops are overpriced.

I did cite the price there anon

Go for the legion. I just got the 2021 and its amazing. Its built like a P series. Its really really good.

Yes. P series are durable. I've had 3

Yeah keep telling yourself that. The P series actually have a magnesium rollcage. You you seriously think something similar is in the Legion?

Pretty much the conclusion I came to. For some reason it costs more than it does in other countries so I am exploring my options because it's possible I might find something that works just as well for me considering I am not intending to run an AAA game(especially when most of them are disappointing nowadays) on ultra or something

Don't want to create a new thread, here's another 6800h laptop from xiaomi, any caveats with xiaomi laptops? I don't need a dedicated GPU and I'm not getting another intel cpu laptop, they drop their boost even with adequate cooling, just on timer.

Also from what I gathered it has two RAM slots and one SSD slot. Would like two SSDs but I can live with that.

if you want to gaym - then buy it. and if you are younger than like 27 maybe
    >if 27 or older then consider some kind of business laptop like Chinkpad or picrel

If you are autistic then IBM Thinkpad

      >6 c 12 T
      >intel integrated graphics, perfect for working, not that expensive because 10 Gen (10810u)
      >does everything my main rig can and its portable.
      >with something like Arch or Gentoo you can really squeeze shit ton of on-screen time
Only con in my opinion is that is something "Intel pro" (i honestly have no idea what it does)
And you have this Dell bios which is a pain in the ass for someone like me (read normie) if you want to install something else than windows on it (disabling secure boot or what not)
All in all - i think the Dell nailed it with this laptop, its really comfy to use, in 99 percent of things i do on it it never gets too hot or loud because it has enough horsepower to do it.

plus the ports man. I got mine with USB-C and its cahrging port and TB3 at the same time. Get yourself a dedicated charging cable and u have a free usbC TB3 to work with you dongles and adapters

I got an Ideapad that was more or less spec the exact same. Get the ideapad, other than the screen (don't think it reaches 165Hz) it's the same and cheaper.

      Anonymous

Ah yes, I did see an Ideapad that was much cheaper yet has RTX 3060, Ryzen 5800H and whatnot. I heard that Ideapad Gaming 3 has worse build quality, cooling and whatnot though compared to the Legion, is that noticeable?

It's hard for me to say, since I've not used the Legion. It's also worth pointing out that I mostly use it for meme learning and fricking around with CUDA not gaming. So again it's a little hard for me to comment on it's gaming performance. But, solely on specs, they're almost identical.

          Anonymous

Oh, you are coding CUDA? Have fun with that, I took a class on parallel programming and though I only have passing knowledge for me, it sure made me understand serial vs parallel among others

Anyway, if anything I have read that what makes them different is that the build quality of the Legion is definitely gonna be better and the Legion would also have better cooling among others which is kind of important when the systems can run pretty hot

I paid $1000 (on sale, reg 1200) for my 14" Zephyrus G14, and it's got better specs than that from 2020. Literally the only thing better on that legion is the display (g14 is 14" 1080p@144Hz) but it's got a 3070, and Ryzen 9 5600 plus twice the SSD space for a lot less *and* it's two years old. So there's your reason NOT to preorder a laptop that's brand new and it's outspec'd by a thin laptop from 2 years ago for way less money

I have the 2021 version. Keyboard is gay and the touchpad is gay because it fricks up sometimes. I have the shitty 120 Hz shitty display, which is gay and sometimes fricks up by fricking up the LED backlight once every 2 weeks. The fans are loud as frick even with headphones on which is gay. The latches on the back cover broke when I opened the laptop up and that's gay. Came with a shitty wifi card (mediatek mt7921) and had to spend money to replace and that's really gay. Overall a really gay experience. Also lenovo vantage is really gay. Prepare for frustration if you want a gaymer laptop.

Did you really have to describe it like that

Are there any good gaming laptops that are somewhat quiet?

I think the slim and stuff models are usually quieter, but thats really because a slimmer model means smaller fans, ergo quieter. So the trade off is worse performance

        Anonymous

well someone said to just turn down the CPU/GPU usage so it never goes above a point where it would need to turn the fans on high so a beefier PC would be better.
