      >Ebassi
God, I remember that idiot getting super mad at me once randomly at a forum because I had the audacity of running a system without polkit on it.
Yes, he kept insisting that I didn't know what I was doing and didn't understand what polkit did because I ran a system without it. He was so mad by this affront and heresy that I ran a system without polkit on a single user computer. He couldn't believe that I simply mounted my external drives with a mount command and sudo.

Yeah, all these code of conduct wankers have twitter and forum posts where they are unreasonably aggressive.
They were also immediately able to dig up dirt on Twitter on the people that banned the Hyprland dev for not running his own discord in accordance to the Freedesktop code of conduct which they then promptly deleted.

Ehmke is the worst one of all who's basically the primordial engineer of Code of Conduct as a conduct and constantly insults people on Twitter over minor things.

It's really a for-thee-but-not-for-mee culture, but that happens everywhere I suppose.

Thanks for the read Anon, that whole attack vector bit about changing the system time was choice. Why the frick. Did Ebussy come out swinging like that though?

            Anonymous

Because he's clearly deeply insulted that someone would want to run a system without Polkit.
It's just bizarre how personally he takes it. If you ever talk with Freedesktop devs it becomes clear they really, really do not like it when someone doesn't use their technologies. Most are considerably less angry about it but you can smell the contempt in the way they word things when they find out you're not using Freedesktop tech.

This isn't some weird Gentoo stereotype is it?

            Anonymous

I thought that was typical for linux users. since you know, if you're going to restart it's probably after installing something or messing with configs, so you're probably already in a terminal
I'm 50/50 on shutdown though, sometimes I'm too lazy to reach for the mouse so I just pop open a terminal, other times I click the button idk

            Anonymous

Yeah I thought it was typical too and never even considered the option of a shutdown button in some kind of start menu.

I usually just do the command since I keep a terminal open on my laptop screen and use an external monitor for everything else.
But I use KDE and it also makes you click if you don't wanna wait through the 60 second countdown.

How can KDE force that? KDE can't stop anything.

At least, my system on shutdown sends TERM to all processes and gives the 5 seconds to close themselves, and then sends KILL to whatever is remaining, that's it.

He is still a contributor to a handful of projects. He is pretty much one of the few sane and competent Gnome devs. There was a guy that also made a working solution before him (https://github.com/Dudemanguy/gtk) but ebussy doesn't accept opinions outside his circle and overcomplicates solutions (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/233#note_1106706).

people need to realize that gnome is a dumpster fire and it's mainly due to a few people that refuse to move on and to pass control of gnome to people that know how to code and actually give a frick.

The GNOME Foundation, after years of running a deficit, is focusing on fundraising to sustain its operations. If you value open-source software and want to support GNOME, consider making a donation. Your contribution can help ensure the continued development of the GNOME desktop environment and associated projects. Every little bit counts!

Do they give any reasons as to why you would want gnome to continue?

  39. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Maybe if they implemented useful features in the base Gnome desktop, and not b***h at their users for requesting these simple additions, they would probably be fine. The fact they have to rely on extensions made by the community is dumber than shit because every major release, some always break. Also, they deserve to go under, since they outright refuse to put in an active app taskbar, and a dock without relying on a 3rd party extension.

"We are just spending SOOO much money on our outreach program that we are in the red financial. Won't you give us more money because we are such good people:)" is what they were probably thinking. When anyone with a brain sees "We are spending money that you give us on wasteful endeavor and we want you to bail us out so we can keep doing so.". The idea of slashing the program either never occurred to them or was immediately shot down.
