Finding shitty CRT TVs is easy.
Finding pro grade PC CRTs in good condition is much harder.
And at the end of the day you end up with a shitty monitor which can only display sRGB. Might not matter if you're colorblind but something that covers a wider color range is better

why does every CRTroon play "muh noostoolgic gooms"? OH RIGHT! 😀

Because the main reason to still own CRTs is /vr/ and I played a lot of Doom as a kid when it was still fresh?
Doom is best played lined doubled at 400p on a early 14" VGA monitor and not at 200p on a 15kHz one though.
>where do i get a 15khz monitor?
For games or as an actual monitor you can see 640x240 text mode without going blind? Do you need it to fit on a desktop or are you OK with it being a 25" TV?
Best I could come up with was hacking a Disney kid TV to have RGB input. The phosphor pitch on the tube is acceptable for 80-column text and it's only 13" so it fits on the desk.
There are actual 15kHz monitors you know, pretty common actually.

PVMs are monitors too, sure but no I mean actual computer monitors, many 15kHz only or ones that accept both 15kHz and VGA exist and are easy and plentiful to find these days.

>>ones that accept both 15kHz and VGA >>are easy and plentiful to find these days >No.
I'm sure you mean things like Microvitech, sure those are rare, otherwise 15kHz only and later VGA monitors that accept 15kHz are much more common, most people don't even know the later Multiscan capable ones like the Nokia on in the picture.
The rare Multiscan 15kHz + VGA ones are usually the older ones.
VGA by definition is 31khz minimum. Only very few rare monitors deviate from the standards and can run at 15khz from VGA. These were usually exotic monitor/TV combo units.
>VGA by definition is 31khz minimum.
We're talking about 15kHz monitors, not VGA. Some did however accept 15kHz and VGA, I'm saying VGA because they usually did more than just 31kHz too, like 15 - 38kHz and later ones 96kHz, etc.
>Only very few rare monitors deviate from the standards and can run at 15khz from VGA.
Multiscan monitors less common than native 15kHz ones, sure.
>These were usually exotic monitor/TV combo units.
No, not TVs, monitors. Sure there's TVs that did do VGA modes and accept VGA.
There were NEC Multisync and some other japanese brands mainly for X68000 (because it could output 15khz, 24khz and 31khz) and those were also somewhat common with Amigas at one point.
>There were NEC Multisync and some other japanese brands mainly for X68000 (because it could output 15khz, 24khz and 31khz) >and those were also somewhat common with Amigas at one point.
If you mean Multiscan 15kHz and VGA, there were a handful of options back in the day. But as I said, some later VGA monitors are Multiscan that do 15kHz too but aren't really from that period anymore.
This was mainly about 15kHz monitors though, not Multiscan ones that do both 15kHz and VGA, normal 15kHz ones are much cheaper and more common.

Man, my local municipal ewaste used to be staffed by a cool old boomer who probably had 35 years of seniority with the union and didn't give a frick about anything. The first time I went looking around I did ask for permission, and he said "the rules say you can't, but I'm fine with it, go have a look buddy". Some highlights that I got under boomer's tenure, all in mint condition:
>Sony CPD-G500 >Mitsubishi Diamondtron 2070sb >Lacie Electron Blue 22 IV (slightly worn tube) >HP P1110 >32" JVC D-Series >IBM Model F keyboard (several) >Sega Genesis with about 20 games >Macintosh II with Apple M0115 keyboard >Power Macintosh 6100/66 DOS compatible, nearby cardboard box had the elusive HDI-45 and DOS switching cables >Sun SparcStation 20 >Box full of Voodoo3 graphics cards >Sony home stereo system with a kickass Sony STR-7800SD receiver >IBM Selectric I Typewriter
Unfortunately boomer bro retired, and was replaced by a pajeet fricker who watches over you like a Nazi camp commander every time you go to the shipping container for ewaste. Haven't really gotten anything interesting since he took over, though I once did manage to grab a box of iPhones that were thrown out for some reason. Netted a couple thousand from that.
e-waste where I live is run by dickheads who won't let you take things - which is ridiculous since the whole point is to keep things out of the landfill. I used to go on Saturday morning with some "dummy" items to pretend to unload so I could yoink vintage shit the moment it was set down, but I've restored and sold enough shit from there I'm tired of doing it, you don't make enough money for it to be worth the effort.
>e-waste where I live is run by dickheads who won't let you take things
Yes, because they get paid by tonnage sent to their waste brokers, and you are effectively removing the income which allows them to operate the facility. Shock fricking horror. Neet meets real world once again.
Do they sell anything else of practical use or interest? All I can think of would be some older keyboards with interesting switch type configurations (Hall effect, capacitive/dome, etc as examples). Beyond the potential input latency differences between something like PS/2 and USB, most modern HID will be superior in ergonomics and more easily customizable. They might have some bigger hardware for enthusiast use cases, but with regards to typical consumer goods, I can't think of much I'd want beyond some NEC/PC-xx hardware.
I don't understand why they make such a fuss about it. They already have the hard drives removed, right? So then what's the harm in reusing it?

What a cool guy. I don't understand why people take ewaste recycling center rules so seriously.
I wish my local dumpster had interesting stuff. Most of the time, they only have microwaves, electric kettles or other boring appliances.
Microwaves are cool. You'd be surprised what you can do with them.
The local retroomer cabal near me gets first dibs at every recycler, swap meet, thrift store and mexican scrap metal pick up business within 100 miles.
You can't win.
I just wanna find a VT terminal, any terminal.
They were so common 10-15 years ago, every 2 bit community college and public library was throwing them out as they upgraded their early 90s equipment.
Now they're $600 starting and there's no guarantee they won't die in transit or aren't about to fry.
no, I would be fine with anything at this point, but preferably something later model so I can at least use a PS/2 keyboard and not be tethered to the mushy yellowed keyboard it comes with.
Are CRT expensive in the US? I'm in France, and here, you can get these for next to nothing.
most institutions in the US ewasted their crts about 10 years ago, the few that are left are now highly valuable commodities because there won't be any more
>but preferably something later model so I can at least use a PS/2 keyboard and not be tethered to the mushy yellowed keyboard it comes with.
Most older terminals have really nice mechanical keyboards with special keys though.
I found this TTX-3000 thing locally NIB off ebay for about $120. It doesn't do the greatest VT emulation but it's mint.
The issue with serial terminals is they almost all got used to death - this was their purpose - to sit in a warehouse 24/7 until the screen burn made them unusable, and maybe then they'd get repaired or just replaced. So, finding a decent one usually means finding one that got put into storage early in it's lifecycle. Universities seem to be the best for that - they often can't just toss shit, and it it got paid on a specific grant it can't go to anyone else until the grant is up so it goes to storage and gets forgotten.
Yeah it's RS-232. I don't recall specifically what it emulates, just that for whatever reason it couldn't display Larn or Nethack properly. It's back in it's original box in storage at the moment.

Mine is an Ampex 230. It's has a yellow monochrome screen.
I know it is configurable but I wonder If it reads the config once the connexion with the target is established or if it stores it in the terminal itself.

Look into government auctions for surplus and seizures, if you are near a big city sometimes old offices offload a ton of computer equipment, assuming there's one nearby sometimes you can message the seller and ask if they'll set one aside for you to buy on the spot.
I contacted every E-waste recycling buisiness in a 50 mile radius. Half of them told me they don't sell to individuals and the other half said they had none in stock. Ebay was the only recourse.
there's no ewaste facilities in my entire county
only drop off points at commercial stores where you can't pick up what's left behind
at best there are thrift stores...but even then, no crts, must be disposed of in an ewaste facility
but there are none here
i only found one in the street but it was roach infested and pee scented
it'd be easier and give them more money to make sales of items than spending all that time trying to dump it
E-bay is ass and full of scalpers. If you live in a populated area or are in driving distance of one Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Kijiji are a lot better
yes, you put brightness to where blacks are black and then you use contrast as brightness.
Brightness is just your black level, but if you set it too low near black colors become black
If you have a mitsubishi crt you can double the brightness by simply removing the anti glare, but its easy to scratch the glass while doing it so be carefull.
It took me more then 24 hours of constant rubbing to get it off from another mitsu but the result is pretty amazing.
Think about if you have the patience to sit on the floor for several days straight rubbing away at a crt with a sponge before you start and dont use anything but water paper and a sponge if your feeling risky, sponge works 10 times better then water and paper but its possible to make smal scratches so id recommend just paper and patience.
NEVER EVER USE ANYTHING SHARP
man I wish I was american
I'd get so much shit for free
there are no old computers or appliances in europe
only shitty crap from households gets thrown in the trash then gets destroyed by bored kidz and 100% decommissioned business equipment is immediately on the local craigslist, price always 100€ over what g says is fair
Retro is expensive everywhere but yeah, probably more so in america because there's a big onions scene.
It causes the prices on the same products to inflate in my c**t because the IT retro boomer collectors model their margins after ebay.
These guys are extremely crafty and smart, they won't miss any opportunity even if the profit they'll make is a single coffee

Wat?
So my Xorg config treats the 480 screen of the TV as part of the same XScreen as my main monitor. When running an emulator, I have it output to the screen coordinates of the part of the XScreen the TV is, at a 480 resolution. It ends up running just the same as if I had an old PSX or N64 hooked up to the TV, but without having to have all the old hardware.
Xorg and Nvidia can handle monitors with different refresh rates and resolutions nowadays so it doesn't affect my main monitor at all.

You don't need that, get a TV with SCART, get a DP to VGA adapter, make your own VGA RGB to RGB SCART cable that properly joins sync (or buy a premade one, like MiSTer RGB SCART cable) and done. All you have to do on the software side is create some 15kHz modes to output.

It's only janky-ass if you make it so, the quality depends on your work. Alternatively if you don't have access to TVs with RGB input or are unable to do basic mods, there's still monitors.
>Tell me you're a zoomer without telling me you're a zoomer.
Nothing to zoomer shitpsot about, you can't get proper 240p out of a hardwired 480i adapter and you can't feed them proper 480i modes yourself either without them deinterlacing first so you just have a horrible picture when even trying to emulate consoles with 480i output.

reminder that FW900 and other similar high end monitors were fricking thousands of dollars new. 10 times the cost of the average crt. The only people buying them were businesses that know what they had.
They never sold for cheap used or fell to $0. The ONLY exceptions are businesses that closed down and the assets were liquidated or the whole place went completely under. That is how some fell into the hands of morons fro free or cheap.
They would have never made it into africa of all fricking places
Big CRTs tend to be free but you need a car and maybe even a friend to transport it to your mom's basement. Small CRTs are tend to still be worth something. I even looked on Facebook marketplace and small CRTs are either being sold for $20-$40 or have no composite input. I got mine on ebay for $30 and change delivered.
i got my 230sb 21" for around $3 and transported it to the home in my hands from another village, it is just around 30kg, i don't know what feminine trannies scream about crts being heavy

Anyone have a set of suggestions for the best CRT TVs and/or monitors? I seem to remember that Sony were among some of the best out there in both category and of course Eizo made stupidly expensive professional use monitors. What are some of the better CRTs (especially those that offered at least S-Video, but also analog Component 5-plugs, and/or D-SUB + DVI ) - though these days it seems like everyone will take what they can get because things are insanely expensive.
Basically every TV is the same its not worth listing models, like you said sony is best next stuff like JVC and panasonic, avoid shit brands like Daewoo or anything that looks cheap
I fricking wish but the motion on that thing is still just as piss poor as any other flat screen.
You dont understand, motion matters more then literally anything sure deep blacks are nice and HDR is kinda cool but its all worthless without good motion
>motion on that thing is still just as piss poor
This is why I said couple years more. If it can achieve these results at 175Hz on a first gen qd-oled panel 240Hz will absolutely match CRT in motion.
>will absolutely match CRT in motion.
If you look at with your naked eyes, sure, but you can easily tell the difference when using cameras.

>If you look at with your naked eyes, sure
There's no other way to look at it unless you're a cyborg so..
that looks dreadfull, it needs to look like in real life where you can follow something with your eyes and it stays clearly visible.
no motion blur
>follow something with your eyes
Like what? Give me real use scenarios. High refresh monitors are most commonly used for fast paced video games and in those your eyes are basically glued to the center of the screen and all tracking is done by moving in game pov. It's not the same as UFO test. With your eyes and head fixed at one point even CRT will have motion blur when you pan in game camera around. This is just how our eyes work so who the frick cares if panel has a little bit of motion blur or not when you can't fricking tell anyways? I agree ghosting and other artifacts such as screen tearing are still noticeable but sub pixel blur at 240Hz? No fricking way.

Works fine. Sure you're not using some 5 year old cheap "gayming" panel to compare, anon?
>Doesnt even support BFI
Nice motion you got there, and remember that 12 years ago people were saying the same thing. Display tech is still catching up to ancient tech and even then they have to make huge compromises aka pick your poison.
In most use cases you'll be at 60~85fps, where flat panels still suffer from motion clarity issues. If you play only CSGO then I guess motion isnt an issue at 240hz+BFI... Just know the CRT does a better job at lower refresh rates.
Dont use MAgicbright mode if you want it to last.
You also cant configure color properly unless you build a weird adapter that only works with old PCS that have a native 25pin serial port.
I dont like Samsung when they work they are fine but they are user unfriendly
Works fine. Sure you're not using some 5 year old cheap "gayming" panel to compare, anon?
nintendo switchs LED display, its the best one I have on hand, but motion imperfect motion is annyoing to me even on a Plasma which strobes.
You need the image to be drawn top to bottom, even better if you can do it with only one pixel lit at a time.
All of this effort put into new monitors is wasted we got it right the first time why not just make new crts its so annoying to me that just because they are big and heavy they got replaced, a Monitor is not supposed to be constantly carried around aslong as it fits on my desk what do I care
I like my AG500R dude, but come the frick on. I've been doing photography (personal) and GIS work for long enough that I have used CRT, and a variety of LCDs, and life has significantly improved with the introduction of LCD panels. Yes, at first, and currently on the lowest end, LCDs can be terrible, but you're also looking at past CRTs through rose colored glasses.
Most CRTs of the past, especially at the mid-tier consumer level (at the lowest end, ironically, there were some serious gems) mass produced ones were fricking garbage. They "technically" had all of the latest CRT tech, but at the lowest implementation tier possible, kinda like mid-tier consumer level 4K tv's are "technically" 60-120hz, "technically" HDR, etc.
I'm sure the big Sony Pro and Prosumer monitors are fricking awesome to gayme on, but the average person never had access to those back in the day. Most families were lucky to have access to a 36" 4:3 RCA with mono sound.
I dont understand what your talking about with latest crt tech, either they had something or they didnt.
There was no need to lie about something like refresh rate like they do today, some monitors had marketing gimmicks sure but they almost always were quality of life stuff not image quality.
Mid end crts were fine, the worst that you could have is that when alot of white is on screen the image becomes darker (like modern OLEDs) or imperfect geometry which is something that doesnt matter at all to me atleast.
your AG500R is a TV not a Monitor its not even fair to compare the two every issue it has a PC crt has not, most crt TVs were blooming, misconverged, blurry and had geometry thats awfull.
CRT TVs are like the down syndrom cousin of the SVGA crts, but I still love em even if they are objectively shitquite bad
>Yes, at first, and currently on the lowest end, LCDs can be terrible.
Even high-end consumer LCDs have glaring issues, like bad black uniformity due to backlight bleed and poor local dimming implementation, abysmal contrast levels and terrible motion resolution.
OLED is the clear evolution because it gets rid off all the black/contrast issues, and motion can be easily fixed with proper BFI implementation like seen on the ViewSonic XG2431@60hz (picrel). So it's no wonder that the LG C series sell like hot cakes and some even use as their main displays, the LCD monitor market is fricking horrible.

Pop quiz: 120Hz w/o BFI or 60Hz w/ BFI?

That's 60hz with BFI, without it this is how it looks like and how they tell you "it's ok". Even 120hz w/o BFI looks blurrier than 60hz+BFI.
I also hate how the market killed Plasmas too early, the burn-in issues were exaggerated and with enough time we could've had BFI implementations, and that would definitely be THE evolution from CRTs. Dont buy POS LCDs, unless it's for reading and productive work where picture quality doesnt matter.

Wrong, Plasmas strobe by nature. Both may be self-emissive but there are aspects that still make OLEDs similar o LCDs.

Lower latency than any plasma panel ever? Those things were notorious for their horrible latency.
Be far more energy efficient these days?

So yea, remember when I said that any 19" 95kHz CRT was good... I take that back, look at this cheap fricker. Everything about it is cheap, it's one of those chassis that dont even have a bottom plate to support the board.
>Not burn in within months or even years?
You're just throwing stones from a glass house at this point:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/permanent-image-retention-burn-in-lcd-oled >Have 120Hz+ 4k panels?
Nothing could've stopped 4k 120hz Plasmas from being made. >Be far more energy efficient these days?
Only matters if you're using multiple displays to justify the difference in the bill. >What the frick do you want?
Display that naturally strobes to avoid shitty motion resolution, I dont think thats too much to ask.

>You're just throwing stones from a glass house at this point:
You realize those are 2020 OLEDs? The major breakthroughs came last year.
Not to mention, 5000 hours? I was correct, years of normal usage.
>Nothing could've stopped 4k 120hz Plasmas from being made.
WHERE ARE THEY?
>Only matters if you're using multiple displays to justify the difference in the bill.
Spotted the NEET. If I have the choice, I'd rather not pay for 60W extra.
>Display that naturally strobes to avoid shitty motion resolution, I dont think thats too much to ask.
OLED strobes, what's the problem? Plasma only strobes "naturally" too because it's build like that since it makes sense that way.
There's no argument towards plasma, it's a shitty 80's technology that became a dead end. At least CRT had it's pros.
>nintendo switchs LED display, its the best one I have on hand
>Best one on hand >it's a "manufactured to low price point" cheap childrens toy screen that isn't even good compared to 10 year old phone screens
This is bait, right? RIGHT?
How is not fair?
I also have a DS and these two things are 15 years apart yet the performance is almost as piss poor on the new one.
And its gonna be the same on every single lcd at 60hz, I can gurantee you that.
You can even emulate the effect on a crt, if I put my crt to 180hz and play games at 60fps its still a blurry mess even though its on an actual crt.
Sample and hold is the issue here not necesseraly the quality of the screen, you can go back to the sixtys and guess what, crts had perfect motion clarity then too
Never threw mine away. My monitor on the other hand made a pop and got all fricked up when I was playing something, the repair guy said it's not fixable.
Sure is nice to be part of the crt master race.
I'm just kicking back playing some doom this evening on my glorious CRT.
How about you fellow crt gentlemen?
Was playing Valkyrie Profile. About to go to bed. Wife and I are shopping for our second house tomorrow and it will be 3hrs away, so gotta get up early.
Yep. One of the first "deep" story line games I ever played...it has some plot holes though. Had a deep effect on my developing mind as a kid though. Other gaymes that shaped me:
>Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
I didn't understand the CF system, so I got the "Bad" ending where the Nation I helped birth turns on me, after literally saving their ass from demons. Blew my mind as a kid, as it was the first time I ever thought about "my" actions as a whole and how they affect others. I'm addicted to such story telling now, and honestly prefer the "Bad" end to the other endings. >Lunar SSSC
Ghaleon, while yes a bad guy, had a point. I'm not 110% sure Alex fought for the best outcome. I'd love someone to buy the rights and do a grim-dark retelling of Lunar. >Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Fist game where I quickly realized that you were objectively playing the bad guy. Marche was a selfish bastard who fought to get what he wanted, at the expense of not only his friends, but an entire plane of reality.

Also, can you tell I'm a Black Company and Malazan fan?
This guy is literally "haha I got a CRT for uptoota, how ya doing fellow CRT redditors?"
Remember it's the guy who freaked about a out "hurt you CRT homosexuals lied to me about the good blacks" because he didn't know about brightness adjust
This is what the CRT shilling has done, turned CRTs into a zoomer meme, so everyone looses
I see the issue now, go to the service menu, if you show me the exact model i can tell you how to do that,
Then go to the color tab and go through the colors untill you find red bias, turn that down, maybe turn red down a little over all and that should fix it.
Had to do the exact same thing on mine to get perfect colors

To fix the black crush increase brightness as high as you can without making blacks grey.
For color calibration you need the service menu
uhm bros i think i broke it

R-B is your color bias, R-G is your gain for that color.
The number after is for what color slot the setting is, you can set 3 different color calibrations you can later choose in the user menu.
Leave everything else alone, you can possibly frick up stuff in the service menu, as the other anon suggested read the service manual if you have it, it should explain everthing
Unless you can fix crts yourself they are useless these days Touhouhomosexual is a moron.
If you dont want it no more ill give you 50 euros for it.

Id definetely take it, I just have a soft spot for superbrights
>being such a contrarian who wants attention that you go out of your way to get ancient, headache-inducing, cancer-causing, heavy as goddamn frick, obsolete display technology when modern displays just fricking work and will dispute that with arguments that might have been legitimate 15 fricking years ago when the tech was in its infancy but not fricking now
kek
don't care, crt looks better than lcd so i will use it and i don't fricking care how much marketing you will feed me i will not buy your garbage panels >it being heavy is an issue for the troony
I live in a thirdie that has tonnes of stores that sell and maintain CRTs. Is there anything I should be looking out for when looking for a retro gaming TV? Online has little information except naming the TOP TEN MODELS to look for that are mostly obscure
Any 96kHz Horizontal Rate monitor should be capable of 1920x1440. Dont obsess over high resolutions, CRTs can look good at lower ones unlike fixed pixel panels.
There are CRTs that are designed to run at 1536p85hz. These even support 2160p60hz.
1440p CRTs are quite common, any 21-inch and many 19" can do it just fine
What issue do you have with it by the way?
Looks fine to me if the colors are a little off they can be adjusted in the service menu, not something you can do on every monitor
first of all the focus is bad in the corners and i have no idea how to decase it to fix
then the colors, gradients have big black, especially the blue
how do i fix it? the service menu isn't user-friendly at all and i can't find an instruction for it
I used to have a Dell P1110, which is somewhat of a "holy grail" monitor. It was a gigantic pain in the ass in that I had to build all sorts of custom hardware and find an ancient XP VM to fix the G3 levels with WinDAS to get it back to a decent picture. Then, over time, it'd lose the calibration and I'd need to do it again. One fine day, I turned it on and something went "snap" inside and bye-bye raster.
I didn't feel like fixing it and no one locally would take it even for free, so it went to the dump.
You can't hang onto this stuff 2mk8yforever.
>You can't hang onto this stuff 2mk8yforever.
You can if you're not a plebbit homosexual who understand that that could have been repaired with a new vertical or horizontal output transistors (or both considering its age) for all of about $5.
>You can if you're not a plebbit homosexual > just replace the HOT
If you can find the part.
If you can find it for a reasonable price.
If the part doesn't turn out to be counterfeit.
If the HOT didn't blow due to some other failure upstream.
If there isn't a shitload of work trying to figure out what else failed.
If don't think it's fixed, then power it on and the HOT blows again.
I don't have time for that anymore. The display got a fair chance at getting a new owner, there were no takers.
If I were you I would have kept the tube and the flyback transformer

Yeah, but how would you store it safely? It'd need to go in a huge box... nah, I don't have room for that.
Only bare tube/yoke I have is for a 9" compact Mac. Only non-functional CRT I have is an old Sony RF-only 13" TV which somehow has a very fine pitch tube and absolutely perfect convergence, so I can't yet bring myself to toss it.
can i do anything about it being blurry as shit? turning focus screws doesn't help
this is the recommended 1600x1200 85hz
may it be just a cable problem?
If it's a lower end model then yeah the cable can definitely be shit quality.
1200 at 85hz is also pretty damn high bandwidth for vga, so the cable matters extra more.
this is the focus drifting over time, a very common problem
all you have to so is open it and locate the focus potentiometers on the flyback transformer
I ma so sick of homosexuals getting into the CRT meme because some youtuber said they are cool. I always tell them to open them up and poke around to try an fix them up. hope they all get shocked.
I have a crt
What's the best way to output media to view it?
HDMI to a/v?
I literally have no idea. I assume the conversion between the two is somehow inferior. I would like an autistic fricking homosexual to tell me what I should do, and IQfy seems the right place to ask for this info.
I grew up in the 80s and had to use CRTs until around 2000 and I'm glad they're gone. I don't get why these are fashionable now, to the point of gays essentially dumpster diving for them. >b-but muh soul
No frick off, panel displays are better in every regard.
because they became popular sadly.
look at ewaste places its genuine advice from me they have good stuff
Does anyone have resources on building an arcade machine with a supergun and maybe some chinese boards?

>exposing yourself to toxic phosphor dust and lead particles from pounds of broken CRT tube glass and other broken electronics from the 20th century in order to get an "authentic" experience or flip shit for $80 bucks before taxes and fees
yeah, no.
and sell it to some moron for over $100
dude that was my tv lol
no, i will rather buy it in good condition from local zoomer for 0.3 bucks
There are 5 CRTs in my house
I almost never use them
Finding shitty CRT TVs is easy.
Finding pro grade PC CRTs in good condition is much harder.
And at the end of the day you end up with a shitty monitor which can only display sRGB. Might not matter if you're colorblind but something that covers a wider color range is better
pro crt's have zero soul
I beg to differ pro crts are pretty nice even if the definition pro crt is a bit loose
damn my crt has exactly the same body as yours
is it common?
Its pretty cummon Mitsubishi sold the Monitor under two different brands, but still rare compared to all the generic beige boxes you can find
one piece of advise I have is never ever use the superbright mode its bad for the tube.
i don't use it, i don't like high brightness
just got this monitor and it's pretty blurry, what do? picrel is bottom right corner
and upper left corner (same reso)
bottom right corner looks pretty bad, if you open it you can tune the focus on the flyback transformer with a screwdriver.
These things are pretty much the sharpest crts around you should be able to get it alot better like that
CRT monitors > CRT TVs
where do i get a 15khz monitor?
Local ad's? There's plenty of Philips, Commodore, Microvitec, etc 15kHz monitors being sold here.
I won't pay retroomer scalper prices.
So go to ewaste and save one
Are CRT expensive in the US? I'm in France, and here, you can get these for next to nothing.
Can you still find 819-line capable sets in France?
why does every CRTroon play "muh noostoolgic gooms"? OH RIGHT! 😀
Because the main reason to still own CRTs is /vr/ and I played a lot of Doom as a kid when it was still fresh?
Doom is best played lined doubled at 400p on a early 14" VGA monitor and not at 200p on a 15kHz one though.
DOOM is actually best played in VR.
>where do i get a 15khz monitor?
For games or as an actual monitor you can see 640x240 text mode without going blind? Do you need it to fit on a desktop or are you OK with it being a 25" TV?
Best I could come up with was hacking a Disney kid TV to have RGB input. The phosphor pitch on the tube is acceptable for 80-column text and it's only 13" so it fits on the desk.
There are actual 15kHz monitors you know, pretty common actually.
>There are actual 15kHz monitors you know, pretty common actually.
You mean like PVMs?
PVMs are monitors too, sure but no I mean actual computer monitors, many 15kHz only or ones that accept both 15kHz and VGA exist and are easy and plentiful to find these days.
>ones that accept both 15kHz and VGA
>are easy and plentiful to find these days
No.
>>ones that accept both 15kHz and VGA
>>are easy and plentiful to find these days
>No.
>There were NEC Multisync and some other japanese brands mainly for X68000 (because it could output 15khz, 24khz and 31khz)
>and those were also somewhat common with Amigas at one point.
If you mean Multiscan 15kHz and VGA, there were a handful of options back in the day. But as I said, some later VGA monitors are Multiscan that do 15kHz too but aren't really from that period anymore.
This was mainly about 15kHz monitors though, not Multiscan ones that do both 15kHz and VGA, normal 15kHz ones are much cheaper and more common.
>expecting zoomers to know about old computer monitors
VGA by definition is 31khz minimum. Only very few rare monitors deviate from the standards and can run at 15khz from VGA. These were usually exotic monitor/TV combo units.
There were NEC Multisync and some other japanese brands mainly for X68000 (because it could output 15khz, 24khz and 31khz) and those were also somewhat common with Amigas at one point.
So go to ewaste there were so many mint monitors there, could only save this one cause no car sadly
The people at my ewaste center are buttholes and report you to the police for stealing if you take anything
The last time i was there i didn't see much interesting anyway, it was mostly 2000s pentium 4 junk PCs.
I think people who don't care about CRTs already got rid of them while the ones who care are autists like us and don't throw them away
I usually see atleast 4 or 5 everytime I go, people still regularly throw them away
Why the frick would people do this?
You are literally taking something that the original owner willingly threw away. You can't steal something that no longer belongs to anyone.
muh precious raw lead
technically it belongs to the recycling center
and even if you throw away something here in Germoney it belongs to them, if you pick up trash from the street you are technically stealing
I am "technically stealing" everything from movies to video games and crts aswell frick em

>Sony CPD-G500
>Mitsubishi Diamondtron 2070sb
>Lacie Electron Blue 22 IV (slightly worn tube)
>HP P1110
>32" JVC D-Series
>IBM Model F keyboard (several)
>Sega Genesis with about 20 games
>Macintosh II with Apple M0115 keyboard
>Power Macintosh 6100/66 DOS compatible, nearby cardboard box had the elusive HDI-45 and DOS switching cables
>Sun SparcStation 20
>Box full of Voodoo3 graphics cards
>Sony home stereo system with a kickass Sony STR-7800SD receiver
>IBM Selectric I Typewriter
Unfortunately boomer bro retired, and was replaced by a pajeet fricker who watches over you like a Nazi camp commander every time you go to the shipping container for ewaste. Haven't really gotten anything interesting since he took over, though I once did manage to grab a box of iPhones that were thrown out for some reason. Netted a couple thousand from that.
I too like to come to IQfy to LARP.
>mint monitors
homie its covered in cum
e-waste where I live is run by dickheads who won't let you take things - which is ridiculous since the whole point is to keep things out of the landfill.
They sell nothing just take what you want its ewaste after all
Scavanging laws in many parts of the US make it illegal to steal trash that belongs to a company.
Yeah and?
you're gonna go to jail for stealing trash because that's what homeless people do and we can't have that in 2022
No one cares enough to arrest you at worst theyll tell you that your not allowed to take stuff at which point you go to another ewaste place
I don't understand why they make such a fuss about it. They already have the hard drives removed, right? So then what's the harm in reusing it?
What a cool guy. I don't understand why people take ewaste recycling center rules so seriously.
Microwaves are cool. You'd be surprised what you can do with them.
The local retroomer cabal near me gets first dibs at every recycler, swap meet, thrift store and mexican scrap metal pick up business within 100 miles.
You can't win.
I wish my local dumpster had interesting stuff. Most of the time, they only have microwaves, electric kettles or other boring appliances.
I just wanna find a VT terminal, any terminal.
They were so common 10-15 years ago, every 2 bit community college and public library was throwing them out as they upgraded their early 90s equipment.
Now they're $600 starting and there's no guarantee they won't die in transit or aren't about to fry.
Does it have to be VT? Plenty of other models go around for much cheaper.
I paid 5€ for the one in the picture and it's mint, but usually good condition ones are around 50-70€ though.
no, I would be fine with anything at this point, but preferably something later model so I can at least use a PS/2 keyboard and not be tethered to the mushy yellowed keyboard it comes with.
most institutions in the US ewasted their crts about 10 years ago, the few that are left are now highly valuable commodities because there won't be any more
>but preferably something later model so I can at least use a PS/2 keyboard and not be tethered to the mushy yellowed keyboard it comes with.
Most older terminals have really nice mechanical keyboards with special keys though.
>yellowed
Nothing a couple days of Sun can't fix.
shit looking sharp yo
Does it connect using RS232 ? I have an Ampex terminal and I am wondering if a simple RS232 to USB adapter would work.
Sent 10 of those frickers to the landfill today.
>Throwing away $2000
These werent worth that much new.

Low quality bot bait

Seethe, frickers. They are going to get smashed and smelted into some chink trinkets.

I'd like to buy some of those lead trinkets and force you to drink semen out of them
Yeah, and this flat screen, 19 inch 1920x1440 monitor is also getting crushed. I took a screwdriver to it's screen just before disposing, so you homosexuals don't even think about recovering it.

I'm going to have to revisit the top monitor mount, it's basically resting on my ps2, I'll probably get a pipe clamp and mount a support for it
Very nice anon.
They just routinely destroy everything worth anything.
What do you expect? They're the morons that society put to use gathering up everyone's shit to dispose of.
no
Look into government auctions for surplus and seizures, if you are near a big city sometimes old offices offload a ton of computer equipment, assuming there's one nearby sometimes you can message the seller and ask if they'll set one aside for you to buy on the spot.
You can be certain that if you find a CRT that has been used in eye-blindingly highly illuminated office for years that it's good as dead.
I contacted every E-waste recycling buisiness in a 50 mile radius. Half of them told me they don't sell to individuals and the other half said they had none in stock. Ebay was the only recourse.
You know what's annoying about those places? They get caught all the time offloading what the can't recycle into illegal dumps here and overseas.
there's no ewaste facilities in my entire county
only drop off points at commercial stores where you can't pick up what's left behind
at best there are thrift stores...but even then, no crts, must be disposed of in an ewaste facility
but there are none here
i only found one in the street but it was roach infested and pee scented
it'd be easier and give them more money to make sales of items than spending all that time trying to dump it
E-bay is ass and full of scalpers. If you live in a populated area or are in driving distance of one Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Kijiji are a lot better
I thought that crts had perfect blacks? What the frick is this shit?
It's still lit worse than the shittest lcd
Look at this fricking garbage
disregard these posts, I suck wieners.
brightness apparently you dont even set that above minimum as it isnt actually brightness it just btfo blacks
my blacks on my LCD screen are so strong and powerful that they stain everything around them and the other colors merely project unto them
yes, you put brightness to where blacks are black and then you use contrast as brightness.
Brightness is just your black level, but if you set it too low near black colors become black
With CRTs you either have crushed blacks or ugly grey blacks
You got meme'd hard. Never trust CRT autismos and their lies.
That one Russian autist is a neckbeard, he's not a cute 2hu. Don't let him deceive you.

no thanks, i have my LCD screens. CRTs are fricking gay
Sony hmd-a200 stopped turning on and clicks once, when trying to turn it on...
What can I do?
I love ewaste most of the stuff you find there is better then what youd find in a sore for money its kinda crazy
>4:3 CRT
No thanks.
there might be bugs inside
there might be bugs in anything used just because you payed for it doesnt mean its in good condition lol
NEVER EVER USE ANYTHING SHARP
how do you guys stare at crts without hurting your eyes. i don't have this problem with lcd but crts are just ugh.
it's ok
with shitty lcd your eyes will melt but good crts are good enough
This is what the average CRT enjoyer looks like.

Retro is expensive everywhere but yeah, probably more so in america because there's a big onions scene.
It causes the prices on the same products to inflate in my c**t because the IT retro boomer collectors model their margins after ebay.

Reported for violating rule 2
I use my CRT for vintage gayming, vintage anime, and vintage hentai.
>vintage hentai
I'd say Angel Blade is Vintage Hentai at this point.
Agreed, but I got it cheap and I use the sticks more.
Hooked up to my desktop via a HDMI to Composite converter. I plan on hooking it up to a Rock5B once they are released for a dedicated emulation box.
>via a HDMI to Composite converter.
How can do you "vintage gayming" that way? That sounds horrible.
My Thinkpad has a vga on the dock but it's really disprayport to vga. Who cares, it looks fine and I'm sure a hdmi to vga is fine too.
Real gaming happens with consoles hooked up to my crt via a Gbs-c anyway
Oh I thought we were talking about computer crts
Mod TV for rgb input, use something like a Gbs-c or other scaler to convert vga/RGBHV to RGB with sync, and well idk.
>Mod TV for rgb input, use something like a Gbs-c or other scaler to convert vga/RGBHV to RGB with sync, and well idk.
You're forced 480i with those HDMI to component adapters, useless for 240p and can't do proper 1:1 even with 480i consoles.
>component

Eh?
Good enough for my eyes. Anyways, it isn't like there is a lot of options.
Correct.
>Anyways, it isn't like there is a lot of options.
RGB.
Ah, yes, ripping open my perfectly working CRT to do a janky-ass mod.
Tell me you're a zoomer without telling me you're a zoomer.
>Ah, yes, ripping open my perfectly working CRT to do a janky-ass mod.
I'm perfectly happy with my AG500R. Picture looks fine to me.
Fair enough, I think you just have that opinion thanks to not having something to properly compare to.
It's okay to say it looks fine to you in a subjective manner but don't try to claim it looks fine in general / objectively.
At least for /vr/, for old anime if properly configured it can be "decent".
>Good enough for my eyes.
You're getting a blurry picture with horrible latency, not 1:1 image of how the real console would look like hooked up directly to the TV.
have same controller, dogshit dpad though
What is it hooked up to?
That's a nice microwave, anon.
Thank you, anon.

>t. double contrarian zoomer with no CRT
reminder that FW900 and other similar high end monitors were fricking thousands of dollars new.
They would have never made it into africa of all fricking places
>shit bait made her respond and debonk

F520s sold for pennies in the late 2000s.
Fw900 was below 200 euros at one point
Big CRTs tend to be free but you need a car and maybe even a friend to transport it to your mom's basement. Small CRTs are tend to still be worth something. I even looked on Facebook marketplace and small CRTs are either being sold for $20-$40 or have no composite input. I got mine on ebay for $30 and change delivered.
In ewaste everything is free just go there.
i got my 230sb 21" for around $3 and transported it to the home in my hands from another village, it is just around 30kg, i don't know what feminine trannies scream about crts being heavy

Any Chunghwua chads?
Anime and CRTs are cringe
>Go to your local ewaste center and get a spac heater
Fixed
Tick tock crt gays. Couple years more and all your monitors will be nothing more than sign of autism and poverty.
There's no other way to look at it unless you're a cyborg so..
>follow something with your eyes
Start a sidescoller like Super mario bros.
Run.
Youll see what I mean, everything just becomes a blurry mess
>thats at 60hz
Yes and any monitor thats even worth considering should be able to properly play a fricking mario game at 60hz jesus.
What actual use is a super high refresh monitor when the only games I can play a few games that are old so they get a ton of fps on modern hardware but not so old that they only play good at 60hz
Works fine. Sure you're not using some 5 year old cheap "gayming" panel to compare, anon?
that looks dreadfull, it needs to look like in real life where you can follow something with your eyes and it stays clearly visible.
no motion blur
Wrong. I'll always prefer CRTs for /vr/.
>Doesnt even support BFI
Nice motion you got there, and remember that 12 years ago people were saying the same thing. Display tech is still catching up to ancient tech and even then they have to make huge compromises aka pick your poison.
60Hz/60fps is autistic. Every single game where motion clarity matters runs well above 240fps.
Motion matters for almost everything even for scrolling through your file explorer.
And 240Hz is plenty for that.
no its not jesus christ.
throwing raw hz at the problem is stupid, and even at that crts are better
In most use cases you'll be at 60~85fps, where flat panels still suffer from motion clarity issues. If you play only CSGO then I guess motion isnt an issue at 240hz+BFI... Just know the CRT does a better job at lower refresh rates.
The frick is an e waste center?
Got a one of this today, what i expecting?
Dont use MAgicbright mode if you want it to last.
You also cant configure color properly unless you build a weird adapter that only works with old PCS that have a native 25pin serial port.
I dont like Samsung when they work they are fine but they are user unfriendly
nintendo switchs LED display, its the best one I have on hand, but motion imperfect motion is annyoing to me even on a Plasma which strobes.
You need the image to be drawn top to bottom, even better if you can do it with only one pixel lit at a time.
All of this effort put into new monitors is wasted we got it right the first time why not just make new crts its so annoying to me that just because they are big and heavy they got replaced, a Monitor is not supposed to be constantly carried around aslong as it fits on my desk what do I care
>nintendo switchs LED display, its the best one I have on hand
>Best one on hand
>it's a "manufactured to low price point" cheap childrens toy screen that isn't even good compared to 10 year old phone screens
This is bait, right? RIGHT?
>Dont use MAgicbright mode 24/7 if you want it to last.
FTFY
>*autistic whining noises*
>Muh plasma
You homosexuals realize plasma was just a worse version of OLED and OLED surpassed plasma a several years ago already? Pasma was literally OLED with more cons and less pros.
You homosexuals really are just contrarian morons.
>You homosexuals realize plasma was just a worse version of OLED
Wrong, Plasmas strobe by nature. Both may be self-emissive but there are aspects that still make OLEDs similar o LCDs.
You're also being disingenious by comparing modern OLEDs to Plasmas that ceased production in 2013, they never got the chance to evolve and receive the technology we have now.
>Wrong, Plasmas strobe by nature. Both may be self-emissive but there are aspects that still make OLEDs similar o LCDs.
Yeah they strobe even in situations where you'd want them not to, meanwhile OLEDs can strobe just as well.
>You're also being disingenious by comparing modern OLEDs to Plasmas that ceased production in 2013, they never got the chance to evolve and receive the technology we have now.
Are you fricking moronic or blind or something?
See:
>plasma was
>OLED surpassed plasma a several years ago already
I'm literally talking about old plasma and OLED surpassing it years ago.
Holy shit are you a homosexual with selective reading.
I assumed you were talking about modern OLEDs because there's no fricking way anyone would believe the first comercially available OLEDs were better than the estabilished Plasmas.
These early OLEDs were insanely more burn-in prone than Plasmas, they didnt any features to combat motion blur whatsoever. lower longetivity and were substantially more expensive than other offerings.
So, tell us, what can an OLED do that a Plasma cant?
>what can an OLED do that a Plasma can't
not be a housefire

Yeah you're the one coping homie.
It's funny how all the have-nots come out of the woodwork with pure hatred of the mere thought of someone owning something they don't have to the extent of just shit flinging like a damn monkey.
I guess it's expected from IQfy - Consumerism
lol i don't even care about plasma because i don't watch movies, i just answered your question with what i know
Frick off with your consumerism gaslighting, just because you're factually wrong on a autistic board about technology and people fix your coping arguments.
I only use CRTs, nothing else (outside from my phone), but frick me I'm a consumerist homosexual apparently because you're moronic about plasma screens.
>So, tell us, what can an OLED do that a Plasma cant?
Not burn in within months or even years?
Have 120Hz+ 4k panels?
Lower latency than any plasma panel ever? Those things were notorious for their horrible latency.
Be far more energy efficient these days?
What the frick do you want? Are you literally a drooling moronic contrarian?
So yea, remember when I said that any 19" 95kHz CRT was good... I take that back, look at this cheap fricker. Everything about it is cheap, it's one of those chassis that dont even have a bottom plate to support the board.
>Not burn in within months or even years?
You're just throwing stones from a glass house at this point:
https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/permanent-image-retention-burn-in-lcd-oled
>Have 120Hz+ 4k panels?
I wish i cloud get one but here in sweden these screens are fricking expensive.
Dont they have recycling centers in sweden?
How is not fair?
I also have a DS and these two things are 15 years apart yet the performance is almost as piss poor on the new one.
And its gonna be the same on every single lcd at 60hz, I can gurantee you that.
You can even emulate the effect on a crt, if I put my crt to 180hz and play games at 60fps its still a blurry mess even though its on an actual crt.
Sample and hold is the issue here not necesseraly the quality of the screen, you can go back to the sixtys and guess what, crts had perfect motion clarity then too
you know where to find more than the 2 episodes of dragon half? I heard somewhere that there's a couple episodes that weren't released leaked.
Never threw mine away. My monitor on the other hand made a pop and got all fricked up when I was playing something, the repair guy said it's not fixable.
My biggest tech fear is running out of crts
What is it like knowing that you are going to die without reproducing?
Sure is nice to be part of the crt master race.
I'm just kicking back playing some doom this evening on my glorious CRT.
How about you fellow crt gentlemen?
Was playing Valkyrie Profile. About to go to bed. Wife and I are shopping for our second house tomorrow and it will be 3hrs away, so gotta get up early.
>Valkyrie Profile
nice nice, original version?
looks interesting

Once again I am confirmed in my belief that CRT purists are mentally ill. have a nice day.

End your life.
the frick is this shit guys?
I see the issue now, go to the service menu, if you show me the exact model i can tell you how to do that,
Then go to the color tab and go through the colors untill you find red bias, turn that down, maybe turn red down a little over all and that should fix it.
Had to do the exact same thing on mine to get perfect colors
uhm bros i think i broke it
dropped down from like 5 centimeters and the power button no more works
how to open it? removing two big screws at the bottom didn't do anything
when i push the button it just doesn't click like it did before, mitsubishi 230sb
> can't even open a fricking chassis.
CRTgays everyone. All bandwagon, no brain.
I HATE HIPSTERS SO FRICKING MUCH can they move on to early lcds please?
No, they are far too practical, there is no karma to be gained from lugging a 2kg flat panel home on the bus.
>early lcds please
bu they are shit, i have a few
same thing as modern ones but worse
There are 3 tabs on top of the monitor you need screwdrivers for and two tabs on the bottom.
There are no screws to be removed what the hell are you doing Black person
is it this?
or this?
what part is it supposed to remove
If you put a screwdriver under it its allready dead.
On both below where the sticker is on mine.
And above the superbright logo aswell.
I vote someone tells him just so we can watch him blow a finger off in a sheet of blue flame live.
>There are no screws to be removed what the hell are you doing Black person
after you said this, i put them back and tried to push those things on up and down but it wouldn't go off
then i figured out these actually need to be removed and took them off and it finally opened up
now i'm looking for the power button
You must have a slightly different model then me, mine doesnt have the metal shielding on your pic at all
Just give it to someone who has fine motor skills, it's clearly not you.
Please dont throw it even if it seems to be broken now, give it away to someone who can fix it, mitsubishis are awesome and it doesnt deserve to end like this
i will not, i want to fix it
even if i give it out for free, nobody will ever pick it up because nobody cares about em here
tell me how to open it
do i have to press this thing?
noooo 🙁
but that thing under your sticker just holds the frame
You need to remove the plastic shell nothing more. That holds it on along with these.
can you tell me what are these options? what is the difference between variants 1 2 and 3?
do i have to turn r bs1 down?
just download the service manual before you frick up something
R-B is your color bias, R-G is your gain for that color.
The number after is for what color slot the setting is, you can set 3 different color calibrations you can later choose in the user menu.
Leave everything else alone, you can possibly frick up stuff in the service menu, as the other anon suggested read the service manual if you have it, it should explain everthing
Unless you can fix crts yourself they are useless these days Touhouhomosexual is a moron.
If you dont want it no more ill give you 50 euros for it.
I have been looking for a spare tube for mine
the tube has 15k hours on time
Thats really not alot for this crt aslong you dont use the SB mode it should easily last for 40k-50k hours
i've had some diamondtron before and never used sb on it, but i don't know if this one's previous owner/s did
the brightness (normal mode) seems high enough
Id definetely take it, I just have a soft spot for superbrights
You'll need to recalibrate your white point balance, specially the black levels. Hope you have a colortimeter.
>being such a contrarian who wants attention that you go out of your way to get ancient, headache-inducing, cancer-causing, heavy as goddamn frick, obsolete display technology when modern displays just fricking work and will dispute that with arguments that might have been legitimate 15 fricking years ago when the tech was in its infancy but not fricking now
kek
don't care, crt looks better than lcd so i will use it and i don't fricking care how much marketing you will feed me i will not buy your garbage panels
>it being heavy is an issue for the troony
> being such a homosexual that other peoples actions trigger you this hard
Something something rent free
ewaste centers dont have any crt where I live. They were all thrown away 15 years ago.
I live in a thirdie that has tonnes of stores that sell and maintain CRTs. Is there anything I should be looking out for when looking for a retro gaming TV? Online has little information except naming the TOP TEN MODELS to look for that are mostly obscure
Where can I find a 4k or 1440p CRT monitor? They don't exist that I know of.
Get off your arse and hunt like the rest of us homosexual.
You cant hippy freak
Any 96kHz Horizontal Rate monitor should be capable of 1920x1440. Dont obsess over high resolutions, CRTs can look good at lower ones unlike fixed pixel panels.
There are CRTs that are designed to run at 1536p85hz. These even support 2160p60hz.
1440p CRTs are quite common, any 21-inch and many 19" can do it just fine
I don't think they sell CRTs at the Apple store.
What issue do you have with it by the way?
Looks fine to me if the colors are a little off they can be adjusted in the service menu, not something you can do on every monitor
first of all the focus is bad in the corners and i have no idea how to decase it to fix
then the colors, gradients have big black, especially the blue
how do i fix it? the service menu isn't user-friendly at all and i can't find an instruction for it
To fix the black crush increase brightness as high as you can without making blacks grey.
For color calibration you need the service menu
>You can if you're not a plebbit homosexual
> just replace the HOT
If you can find the part.
If you can find it for a reasonable price.
If the part doesn't turn out to be counterfeit.
If the HOT didn't blow due to some other failure upstream.
If there isn't a shitload of work trying to figure out what else failed.
If don't think it's fixed, then power it on and the HOT blows again.
I don't have time for that anymore. The display got a fair chance at getting a new owner, there were no takers.
I feel your butthurt, though.
Fair.
If I were you I would have kept the tube and the flyback transformer
Do you live in basement ?
Why did you delete your pic? Did you have a moment of clarity and realise what a junklord you are?
> If I were you I would have kept the tube
Yeah, but how would you store it safely? It'd need to go in a huge box... nah, I don't have room for that.
Only bare tube/yoke I have is for a 9" compact Mac. Only non-functional CRT I have is an old Sony RF-only 13" TV which somehow has a very fine pitch tube and absolutely perfect convergence, so I can't yet bring myself to toss it.
Mitsubishi anon did you fix the power button?
Of course he didn't.
Poor monitor, didnt deserve that.
I hope he atleast got fleeced for it
can i do anything about it being blurry as shit? turning focus screws doesn't help
this is the recommended 1600x1200 85hz
may it be just a cable problem?
If it's a lower end model then yeah the cable can definitely be shit quality.
1200 at 85hz is also pretty damn high bandwidth for vga, so the cable matters extra more.
this is the focus drifting over time, a very common problem
all you have to so is open it and locate the focus potentiometers on the flyback transformer
why are people in this thread so angry?
I ma so sick of homosexuals getting into the CRT meme because some youtuber said they are cool. I always tell them to open them up and poke around to try an fix them up. hope they all get shocked.
I have a crt
What's the best way to output media to view it?
HDMI to a/v?
I literally have no idea. I assume the conversion between the two is somehow inferior. I would like an autistic fricking homosexual to tell me what I should do, and IQfy seems the right place to ask for this info.
Black person
Buy a gpu that has vga output
If crt doesn't have vga, but a gpu that has s-video output
LOL
My eyes hurt
I grew up in the 80s and had to use CRTs until around 2000 and I'm glad they're gone. I don't get why these are fashionable now, to the point of gays essentially dumpster diving for them.
>b-but muh soul
No frick off, panel displays are better in every regard.
>No frick off, panel displays are better in every regard.
Even for /vr/? Nah.
>grew up in the 80s
>no soul
Not surprising.
the frick is an ewaste center. do they have those in murica?
I don't know, in my country we just dump trash on the street.
To every anon that wabts to get a crt:
Your out of your digital comfort zone its not going to work the way you want it to without working on it
Why? I still have multiple CRT TVs that still work and I never use.
Will we ever get new crts?
I bought a bunch of NIB Monitors this year, so yes.
Why is it pretty much impossible to find a crt monitor larger than 17" now?
because they became popular sadly.
look at ewaste places its genuine advice from me they have good stuff
Does anyone have resources on building an arcade machine with a supergun and maybe some chinese boards?
I have acces to about a dozen crt TVs I wanted to turn one into a proper full size arcade machine for maybe Daytona USA or if the wheel would be too difficult to diy maybe dig dug or pac man
What do you mean? I put cathodraytube into local eBay and get dozens of results, including 22 inch ones.
I've never heard of a 22" crt monitor, but the cheapest 21" on ebay right now is $300 and it's not even available for shipping.
So read the title of the thread and go to a recycling center.
How do I find an "ewaste center" and what do I do? Call & ask if they have an CRTs I can take home?
Yes. They will either say they do not accept crts or they will gladly give them to you because they have to pay to dispose them
If you want to sound less autistic, say you are looking for some old crt monitors and tvs for an art project and was wondering if they had any
>exposing yourself to toxic phosphor dust and lead particles from pounds of broken CRT tube glass and other broken electronics from the 20th century in order to get an "authentic" experience or flip shit for $80 bucks before taxes and fees
yeah, no.
