Anyone try and goodreads alternatives? We're they good enough to actually replace it?
I've been using Story Graph in parallel with goodreads for a few weeks now and so far I like it. Has a much better UI and some neat graphs to show off your reading statistics.
Huh, never considered these as an alternative but I guess it makes sense if you don't care about the ratings and social stuff.

What are you actually trying to accomplish with goodreads? No, personally I dont care about the social stuff. Why would I want to keep up with what some gender studies dropout is currently reading or the 1 star they gave a book because there wasn't enough representation in a book about Feudal Japan?
If you are just logging you reading, a spreadsheet is almost the simplest tool you can use for this. Pencil and paper works fine, but a spreadsheet gives you a lot of additional functionality for a relatively small increase in effort. You don't need an app for everything.
I had been holding out hope that I could convince some of my friends to join and we could see what each other was reading. Never happened though so I guess I don't really need all that. I do need the ability to filter through my to-read list when I'm at a book store though so I'd at least need excel-level functionality. Should be simple to do with the export data.
>I do need the ability to filter through my to-read list when I'm at a book store though
Google Sheet will work well enough for this on mobile if your not opposed to google. I usually go to the book store with a book or two in mind.

I understand, but that seems to be quite common. The other day, I did log into a good reads account I had set up 10 years ago and found that 1 friend I had on there that I used to know IRL was still reading. It was just tons of lady porn though.

Yea I'll definitely go Gsheets for easy phone access. I always go to bookstores spur of the moment so I don't always have a book already in mind so it's nice to be able to filter books by genre when I go.
I like Goodreads because I can get a little revenge on all the garbage I had to read for high school/college that killed my interest in reading. I thought I hated reading, but once I got out of school and started reading stuff I enjoyed (ya, romance, sci fi, fantasy), I fell in love with reading. I read almost every day and have for years.
>ya, romance, sci fi, fantasy
Might as well play videogames.

I also keep a spreadsheet
bless you, anon
>9 books in March alone
God bless. You got a reading goal for the year? I tried to hit 40 last year but was just shy. Will try to get it this year
I set is for 21 for the year. I did around 90 something last year. I would've read more in January and Febursry but I was focused on finishing my novel.
The former. I love it when people on here tell me I'm a super pleb. I screenshot the more vociferous reactions.
you are a pleb tho
What is even the point? r/books is the place for you. That anon is right who said you have masochistic tendencies. Either that or you’re trolling playing the long game
>Batman No Man's Land
I hope that's like the 10th Batman story you've read. It's not one of the best.
end your life
I use storygraph anon. I don't use it for suggestions or following others, but I do like looking at the graphs from time to time. I dumped Goodreads when I switched to storygraph, I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
Can you show me your records/spreadsheets? I'm interested in how you record your reading.
By the way, in case anyone asks, the difference between 'Dropped' and 'Did Not Finish' is that none of the titles are repeated in DNF. I tend to drop a book and pick it right back up very soon, which made the DNF section very cluttered.
I actually keep my list of kindle reads on excel
picrel
>Story Graph
more granular, but weaker as a database. it is actually more geared towards people who write reviews rather than just rate.
buy PHYSICAL COPY.
I use a little notebook
i only use goodreads because of the integration with kindle
None of them bring anything to the table beyond "not owned by Amazon". GR is still sadly the best option.
