Got the new M3 MacBook Pro 16 inch. New to MacOS and idk if I like the flow of it compared to windows. Some of the keyboard shortcuts don't work on finder, I have to install a bunch of 3rd party apps and I have to pay for them after the trials are over. Things like:
>no cut and paste
>no alt tab, Mac OS leaves the window minimized and doesn't work with certain apps
>no clipboard for copying multiple text/images
>shortcuts are a mess, can't just have normal backspace/delete commands, can't navigate quickly
>overhyped touchpad, setup tapping as clicks and doesn't even work on some apps.
>finder is lacking compared to file explorer

Just seems there's a lack of quality of life with MacOS.

        you're just being stupid use Cmd + c then, option + Cmd + V instead of Cmd + x then, option + Cmd + V

Literally all of these are possible and are no more difficult than on windows. Why do people like you bother buying something new when you're too moronic to learn how to use it?

Also wrong, cmd + opt + v works fine on finder.

If you need to use FTP frequently, Panic's "Transmit" is great.

If you're tethered using your cellphone as a modem, look at something called "TripMode" to dramatically reduce your date usage while tethered.

One more thing, if there's an iPad app you make use of, you may be able to install it on your Mac. Nice additional capability.

There's the Arc browser & Aerial screensaver. There's also Carbon Copy Cloner, which is great for taking image backups of your disk.

        Dash for documentation.
Daisy Disk to view your disk usage.
        Coconut Battery for battery life.
        Fork for Git.
        Ivory for Mastodon. By Tapbots.
        Mimestream for GMail.
        Netnewswire for RSS.
Shottr for screenshots + other capabilities.

All the recommendations should keep you busy for a while. 🙂

You can look at YouTube for "best Mac apps" for other options.

There's also an application called "Latest," which will tell you what needs to be updated.

NOTE: I don't use the installation capability on this app.

        Download UTM

If you need a Linux distribution, start with the ARM version of Fedora. The ARM version of Fedora is the best distribution to run under Apple’s virtualization.

Orbstack, which is Docker/Kubernetes/WSL for macOS.

You should check developer.apple.com for their virtualization example code. This code sample will give you an understanding on how complete Apple’s out of the box virtualization is.

            >Orbstack, which is Docker/Kubernetes/WSL for macOS.

If you go with Orbstack, you may not need Docker desktop at all.

For command line tools, search for "Macports" & "Brew for macOS." Go with one or the other, not both unless necessary. They both install updated command line tools under /opt.

For me, I let the updated tools install under /opt. For macOS apps that include command line helper tools, I let those install in /usr/local/bin.

Rogue Amoeba sells something that does that
In general, macOS is the platform of a thriving indie-developer community — so get used to paying for nice things

no cut and paste man, don't give me the option + command + V, that doesn't work on finder. I installed a 3rd party app, command + X

Finder, and pretty much only Finder, does not support cut — only copy. This is for safety reasons in case the file transfer fricks up in the middle somehow.

There are a bunch of clipboard managers out there but they’re not my cup of tea so I don’t use them and can’t recommend any. I know of people who swear by them, though.

Indie Mac Developers work hard to produce decent Mac apps.

A vast improvement over Desktop Linux, where the only thing that gets created is more POS Linux Distributions.

For normies, this is the correct behavior. Out of the box macOS caters to normies.

i used macs for decades, and i can tell anyone that asks me about them that they're absolute fricking shit and always have been, with exception to their G-macs released decades ago. i'm not sure if you've seen the marketshare for apple's current mac sales but they're embarrassingly small. mac homosexuals obsessed with these californian morons have always been a tiny minority of morons. the rest of us know all about apple's grifting dating back nearly 50 years.

If Apple Silicon Mac sales were bad, Apple would be discounting to move product. Go visit an Apple Store. They have no reason to discount.

I just had a pleasant chat with my MicroCenter rep, on the PC side of the house. He says post-COVID, the Wintel hardware sold during COVID is still running fine. So, sales are down. He is selling to recent retirees, who have turned in their company-supplied PC & need to buy their own gear.

Sales have slowed for everyone. Apple & Wintel.

You're telling me Macs are shit. When I ask Apple Silicon users what they think of their new gear, I get the same answer: "Best laptop I've ever owned."

The Apple Store walking distance from my crib is still doing land office business on new Macs.

I think you need to take another look at current Mac hardware.

    >no alt tab
yeah no shit it's cmd + tab and it's far superior because that switches between applications, then cmd + ~ switches between windows within a single application.

Way better than just blindly shitting through all windows of all applications in a big jumble.
