The top 2 are pretty universally going to be Kafka and Wind Up Bird.
The third depends. Some would say Norweigan Wood. Some say 1Q84 or hard boiled wonderland. There are even some rets who would say Colorless TT
For me, its South of the Border, West of the Sun. Reqd any of them really after Wind Up, see what you think.
this. murakami power rank:
1. kafka.
2. wind up bird.
3. norwegian wood
>South of the Border, West of the Sun
I loved this one. I've read most of his books but for some reason this one stood out.
I'm 200 pages in Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki, it's fricking terrible. Too much meaningless dialogue, and the whole book just feels like it was written for women.
biggest Murakami fan I've seen is a female bookstagram-er, so you're probably correct.
Murakami is not a good author.
Thank you for your service.
My ranking is
1. A Wild Sheep Chase
2. Blind Willow Sleeping Woman
3. South Of The Border West Of The Sun
hear the wind sing / pinball, 1973
a wild sheep chase

He’s such garbage, stop reading his bullshit.
In case you haven't picked up on the theme: Wind Up Bird should be next. Otherwise Norwegian Wood. 1q84 is way too long and kinda trash, so I recommend avoiding it for a while.
I've only read his 1Q84 trilogy, and it felt kinda messy. Like, there's a LOT of (unnecessary) sex in book 1, unlike books 2 and 3. Some characters feel kinda useless and yet they are there. There are a lot of unsolved mysteries in the end (which I find really lame, what's the point of introducing a mystery only to not solve it?). Dunno about his other works.
Wind up bird is shit. Longer than the others for no good reason. Norwegian wood is leagues above the others, but it's also the most different from his usual style. If you want usual murakami read wild sheep chase. Short and somewhat of a detective story. By that I mean unlike most of his books it has somewhat of a plot.
I think the objective rating for his best novels would be:
1. Hardboiled Wonderland
2. Wind-up Bird
3. Wild Sheep Chase
Trash bin
Toilet
Dumpster
You can pretty much pick any of them at random and it's going to be the same book.
>author has his own obssesions.
Explain why it is bad
sovl
im sorry but you'll never read one of his books that are even close to kafka on the shore. read his short story collections instead
I've only read his shorts and really liked them. What should be the first novel to read?
Read Ishiguro instead. Buried Giant is much better than anything Murakami has written.
>Read Ishiguro instead
Good tip
>Buried Giant
His worst book. It was so boring
