Here's an interesting fact

Pets like cats and dogs will disappear from whole countries once AI robot pets become the norm.

OP here. I said "fact" just to make the thread more controversial.
seriously, though, I was thinking about some random shit and then this came up. and it was like "oh, frick... what a messed up world this will become"

exactly what I assumed when I first thought about this. AI dogs will be obedient, won't bank, won't shit, won't have to be "maintained" as much as a real dog. these pets also won't die, so people will not ever be sad for them. people are lazy and abhor "negative" things...

what's funny is that when you remove all negatives from anything it becomes meaningless. What's the appeal of an iphone that moves on it's own? It has no emotions or personality. What's the point

          >What's the appeal of an iphone that moves on it's own? It has no emotions or personality. What's the point
Have you ever given though that, in a modern competitive society; that this is what peple want to achieve?

          >High grades
          >Lots of friends
          >Biggest parties
          >Lots of money now
          >Perfect children
          >Latest car

people strive for expectations that they will never fulfill, an AI pet is sadly something most people would prefer.

This logic doesn't line up at all. People want to make money therefore they don't want a dog? People are striving to do better therefore they can't have a dog? If anything that stress makes you want a real companion. You might as well just have a virtual on on your phone if you're going for a robot.

it's all about the company and "fun". they probably will imitate real pets but then will become nothing like the actual animals. they will probably be used to give attention and show obedience to their owners, nothing else.

            [...]
            >The entire point of a pet is having a living thing that loves you even if you can’t get another human to tolerate you.
have you never seen pets being treated like fricking toys? I'm convinced that most people do that.

            >they will probably be used to give attention and show obedience to their owners, nothing else
What's the point of that. I kinda hate to say this if there's no drama to life what is the point? You might as well just be a neet.

Look anon, cats barfing on the couch and dogs shitting on the rug is what pet ownership is all about. How can a machine replicate that? Yes, you could add it, but because it's a machine you can turn it off, totally ruins the experience

You'll probably be able to adjust the AI pet's "disobedience" levels so that it has just the right amount of dilly dallying or whatever the frick you want.

people have pets because they are cute furry creatures that will do funny stuff like meowing, chasing their own tail, smell their butts and other shit like that. they also have their own personalities and stuff, and most importantly, they live with us. I think we can replicate them right now. AI pets don't even need to think, just imitate. imagine what there will be in future...

Yes, I would say today the majority of these are just curiosities. But a significant minority have people seriously vested in loving silicon. I believe you should sell the poison, but not take it yourself. Embrace people in real life, but perpetuate this tortured reality so that you can get further ahead.

Because there' s no sense of consequence, there's no stakes. You can just turn it off if you're tired of it. If it gets hit by a car who cares. Just buy a new one. That's why it's not worthwhile. How can you care about it more than a phone which is guaranteed to break in 3 years.

        Anonymous

exactly. it's the consequence of uncontrolled consumerism and capitalism. we were supposed to get better as a society if our basic needs were fulfilled. guess what, reality doesn't work like this. we literally work to buy shit and do everything we can to be entertained and to avoid suffering. we are just customers that corporations can easily manipulate to take our money. and so we, as tech workers, don't care about the future, about ethics or anything.
we are NPCs just like everyone else is, even the capitalists that manipulate us.

If you're not arguing that robot pets are better than real ones then what's the point of anything you're saying?

are you a zoomer or something? do you lack a working brain?
do you not understand that expectations are one thing and reality is a completely different things? this will be out world if things don't change. and things are NOT changing. literally no politician cares about any of this. that's the point I'm making ITT. shit will change but not for good. things will become worse. humanity will be soulless. the future is grim.
