Yeh and he was as non-homosexual as they come. It's why only the straightest men are okay with wearing pink and letting their GF and kids put make up on them- they're secure in their sexuality. And the most sexually secure are the men that are okay with some heterosexual buttsex with their bros.

Yeah, I don't think progressives can even define what homosexuality is. It both is and is not.

It's a wonder he could take himself seriously knowing the technology he's so proud of was invented by a superior race. Not to mention that style of hat and goggles.

He barely wrote anything about technology. It was his dad that was a Nazi sympathizer. He thought national socialism was the future.

He had homosexual tendencies but I dont think he ever did anything remotely sexual with men, just admiration and the weird suicide rituals.

I don't get it, he literally admits in Confessions of a Mask (which is autobiographical) that his first sexual experience was him jacking off to a painting of Saint Sebastian. Why are rightwingers so insistent on requiring complete moral virtuousness from their artists? The very nature of artistry requires some degree of eccentricity.

Oh so he wasn't actually gay, he just intimately fantasized about it in order to write a fictional account of a boy who is exactly like the real Mishima except he's gay and thinks gay thoughts all the time. I guess that makes Mishima the straightest man on the planet, then

It's called being an artist. If he just wrote a straight character and copied his own life outright, then the book wouldn't be so great.

I agree in principle, were it not that the protagonist in Confessions is basically a carbon copy of Mishima himself in all respects apart from, ostensibly, his sexual orientation. You don't find that at least a bit suspect?

In all likelihood he was very gay, but his novels were fiction. Most of the characters never existed. Technically speaking, you don’t have any good reason to accept one part as fact and the other fiction. And at that time in Japan, what a person did behind closed doors was pretty much their business. You didn’t talk about things like that. There might have been an implicit understanding but that’s all. He never actually revealed that he had gay sex, and more importantly, to the extent that he was attracted to men, he seemed somewhat ashamed of it. He had this whole complex around it. So to be fair, you can’t know he had gay sex, though he probably did. It doesn’t matter though because if all the other shit. The guy was a freak. He basically tried to be for Japan what Neitzsche was for Germany, a call to LARP as some ancient “self” but in modern times (in Nietzsche’s case, he mistakenly considered them Greek - at least Mishima knew he was Japanese). Mishima is like a perfect example of how not to respond to modernity, and yet, delusional Nietzscheans and Grecophiles exalt him like he’s a modern day hero. I think more than anything he’s a shining example of just how devastating modernity actually is for the right in general. You basically can’t win in it. But it was an obsession for Mishima. He was more obsessed with it than Nietzsche, Heidegger, the Nazis, anyone. It drove him mad, basically. The takeaway should be “look, this is a uniquely Western problem and we have here in Western history a way out - it’s not in Greek or Japanese history”.
