it would be much better if he actually raped Edith. b***h needed some ass spanking

I think that was the point of the whole book anon. He basically had a gravy job during WWI and the great depression. He could've put Edith in her place and beat the ever-living shit out of his daughter when she started whoring around and drinking and he should've just been damn professional and treated the disabled/crippled student with respect, especially considering that his boss had some inexplicable affection for him; probably his gay lover or some shit.

He could've had everything! He could of kept the side pussy and written his book with her and basically put Edith in a crazy home and then made a life with side pussy and his daughter+husband and grandkid; he didn't have to go off to the war and die, as Stoner could've forged some paperwork saying he was his assistant at the university or some shit

Basically there were so many times he should've made a right turn, but the dumb son of a b***h always insisted on making that left. He was a suffering soul, and I've met people like him in my life that legitimately seek out the worst possible scenario, for some reason.

      I ignore women

You have no morals, integrity, or gall so you wouldn’t understand.

...and you do anon? Besides, nothing I said goes against morality or even integrity, really. Edith clearly needed to be put away, and Stoner's daughter NEEDED a parent to guide her in life. Except for the draft dodging thing, I don't see a problem with my plan. I mean, doesn't Stoner deserve to be happy? Hasn't he earned it?

          >happiness
i forget where i read this thing that originally being happy meant you were taking chances to create a good happenstance or something and if one of your crazy plans actually worked out that means you're happy as in one who has created or benefited from hap. i forget where i read this. not sure where the contemporary definition of happiness seeped in from.

Yeah I bet you believe in “fighting for your country” ie getting your dick blown off so the clintons can upgrade their e-girl island membership status. Anon was right, stoner made pussy passive movements throughout his whole life. He was a slave to what he considered to be moral, but it is in fact immoral to be such a b***h and let your life crumble around you.

Therefore I become king of the incels any day
Behold my power: simple ignoring alpha people like yourselves puts me in a pleasant mood.

I'm a philosopher king because I know how to live. I don't need to brag about the latest shag to some incel on IQfy to be happy. Learning you will never see, and hearing you will never understand. Isaiah, Isaiah! So pitiful when all he does is make assumptions all day. You can't truly know. Which is why I'm burying that key so no one can have it.

Haha yeah so crazy. Just imagine being a loser like that.

It wasn’t inexplicable. Lomax was crippled as well and identified with the Walker.

He could not have kept side pussy because it would have ruined his career. And what evidence do you have that he could have put Edith in a home?

I think you misunderstood a lot of the book. There were certainly things Stoner could have done differently, like choosing to become chair, but not the things you mentioned

He was a shit father and that’s all that matters. even if his life was not that bad, he was a failure.

hate this interpretation and don't know why it's so prevalent."What did you expect?" says it all. He spent his life regretting the fact that he didn't follow Masters to war. His passive disposition towards life's disappointments stemmed from his failure to act decisively in that one moment.

That's the point. He died having lived a life that wasn't 'bad' but completely safe and mediocre. He basically just existed and that's it.

The one time he actually rebelled by cheating on his wife was when he was the happiest.

It wasn't bad just uneventful. That's pretty much the point of the book, which is explained in the first pages describing how forgettable William Stoner was. We take forgettable people for granted. Like that boomer janitor at the mall who looks like he's done with his life. They were all people though who probably felt love at one point, heartbreak at another, who probably let life defining chances slip by them resulting in a totally forgettable life. It's a breath of fresh air. Most novels focus on people who were remarkably terrible or heroic. But this is just a book on regular life, and probably a warning for those that live with a more passive approach.
