Started reading this (Ursula Le Guin’s translation) but it was just kind of dull. Not insightful for someone who already has a similar life philosophy, but not particularly beautiful or poignant either. What am I missing?

It was written at a time when there were lots of warring philosophies in China about how to structure a working society. Most of them--e.g. Confucian or Legalism--were highly formal and hierarchical.
