KEK, this is quite an apt description

Got you a better one, Discount Diana Wynne Jones.

I'm going to piss off a lot of incel IQfyners, but Rowling is a great writer of Children's literature (not adult lit, Casual Vacancy sucked).

I'm not putting her above Le Guin or Jones, but she is in the conversation. I actually think Harry Potter has better characterization, more of a heart, and a better sense of humor than the Howl and Earthsea books. I think her creativity also excels.

While Earthsea is great, I don't think highly of it and the first book reads like mythology. The Howl comparison is apt, but Jones has protagonists with personalities that Harry lacked. The kids act like kids and the adults act like buttholes. I do think Rowling had a stronger, more coherent vision for the world and supporting characters, although she couldn't commit to the magic in a sensible way, which detracted as it was so intrinsic to the story.

Her real strength came from allowing the story to mature and be written in a slightly higher register than most children's books, which I find to be the weakest point of children's literature. Jones, in spite of Howl being one of the few books that adults can read without it feeling 'off', is more on the level of a graded reader, while HP had more room to touch on things that children's literature doesn't have room or the ability to. HP had a lot of interiority.

It's meant to resemble an old saga.

I should clarify, I don't think highly of it on the whole because the later books are increasingly stupid, and the first book is written in the tone and register of myth, or as you say, a saga. Wizard is the only one I'd compare to Rowling, and it's nothing like HP because of that massive tonal difference. I actually think the first two books are excellent and symbolically rich like few other books are, but that also makes it far removed from how HP is.

I'd also read better fantasy by the time I got around to it and it didn't have the kind of impact it would have.

Harry Potter is a shitty version of Chrestomanci. Or a boy version of The Worst Witch, and it takes itself too goddamn seriously for what it is.

i miss when the most obnoxious thing about Harry Potter was how many overgrown babies wouldn't shut the frick up about it. they're half-decent books for ten-year-olds. i read them growing up, i really liked them at the time, and then i moved on. there's better fantasy (Tolkien), better "contemporary"/"urban" fantasy (Gaiman and Pratchett), better high-concept kids' books (Animorphs), and better YA (Hunger Games); all Harry Potter has going for it is nostalgia.

10 is too old for HP, shit reads like it's meant to be read to 5 year olds.

troony-ism is founded on mental attributes. Your physical state doesn't matter. Also people with the polydactyl deformity do it to be healthier and normal, trannies do it for the opposite result and still wind up mentally weaker.

There is a difference between outright hatred and thinking something is unnatural, if you think ordinary people think a man wearing women's clothes and demanding to be called a woman isn't weird, then you are living in a complete fairy-tale, most working class people don't hold university liberal beliefs, even economically left wing ones. You have a right to wear women's clothes and believe whatever you want, but don't expect other people to understand you and have the totalitarian view that they have to accept you or else, like a small child would do. You are an eccentric outlier and that is completely fine.

Transgenderism is a biopunk hellscape. I doubt you would ever find acceptance in not even 5, 10 or so years if you continue. In most cases people do hate this sort of mkultra brainwashing, and if you really cared about stuff you say you should've really followed the footsteps of MLK's ways. He knew that true activism and pushing for equality and acceptance lies within tolerance of the normie. "I have a dream" is literally about tolerance and basic human values. You would think that the sitouts and bus rides and black panthers made the country more tolerant to Black folks. No. Its the opposite. You push for action and you get a reaction. Americans rioted and were forced by government at a gunpoint to socialize with Black folks. And so, if you really want acceptance and not a horrid existence for the sake of constant validation, I would approach this as would most black activists and scholars. Get rid of your special month, we are all people and we are not special. Integrate and promote socially acceptable values and programs. Find companionship.
It just seems to me that you folx always do the opposite for attention and media coverage with child grooming and rape allegations.

"Perpetuating trans oppression." Give me a break. Some homosexual puts on a dress and people look at him like he's an ugly self-deluded cross-dresser, which is exactly what he is. But if he can't get the government or the pack wolves on leftist social media to coerce people to go along with the lie that he's as female as Audrey Hepburn, then he's "oppressed." He's just a posturing totalitarian queer. Rowling should shit all over him.

I barely read anything up until I went to college. Harry Potter books were really the only books I've read the moment they got published. I would usually read them in like 2 days. Which was an amazing feat for someone who didn't really read books. Other than the occasional Cather In the Rye or something similar.

Its a great children's book that really lets you get lost in its world and completely forget about the outside world for a couple of hours or days. Or at least that's how I felt reading the books as a kid in the late 90'/early 00'. By the time the last parts got out I was older, the magic has disappeared and reading them felt almost like a chore. But even then, I thought they were still entertaining.

    Just my 2 cents.

No, the context is that a trannie had a meltdown at some protest in the UK, yanked a chair out from under a very elderly woman and threw it (the clip went viral and was featured on news broadcasts). The trannie is sarcastically pretending trannies were protesting chairs (as in: yeah, we were there just to throw chairs and not because we're being le oppressed).

Probably the most skillful thing she did was really capture Harry's development as an adolescent boy growing through his school years. Most writers will frick it up and write a child character almost identical to their adult self, aside from more knowledge of the world.

When it comes to politics, I find it really funny. She's still a leftist through and through, and only because of her trans views has she become a pariah in leftist circles. This also lead to a lot of right-wing people calling her based, but she disagrees with pretty much everything they believe in.

I just wanted to chime in that I remember reading all 3 books, and by the time you reach the third book, there's lazy shit, that I want to call "post-facto exposition" for lack of a better term.
I read the book about a decade ago, so the point isn't as salient as it would be if I were willing to download the book and read the whole thing before my work shift in two hours, but what I mean is for example on page 150, through the book, the character will do something with an item that it's explained she got in the much earlier chapters despite zero mention of it in those earlier chapters. Like b***h, edit your earlier chapters. If it was a case of retconning events in earlier books, that would atleast be understandable.

Also, I vaguely remember the first book alludes to hidden history of a dystopian footage that sort of mysteriously hides something that begs deeper investigation and neither of the sequel books dig into it. Maybe the prequels that these new movies are based off of explore it. I don't give a frick any more, but I remember that.

is the mainstream opinion that Harry Potter sucks? Outside of Hogwarts Legacy, I do feel like people have kind of left HP behind, and in the case of HL I think the shitstorm in the internet is what actually drove the sales of that game, because months prior to the game the third Fantastic Beasts movie came out and it flopped in the box office, and they canceled other HP related proyects in WB. I don't really see people using HP as a good example of a fantasy series, like in youtube channels about writing for fantasy and sci-fi, or sometimes in fandoms and stuff I've seen people using HP almost like an insult like "oh the world building in this series is awful, it's almost as bad as Harry Potter" and similar.

The ultra politically correct types what transgender people usually are hate this because it shatters their whole worldview, spend any amount of time in a British pub with older working class people who have left wing sympathies and you will realize many of them have social views what would not be seen as acceptable by the middle class left today, even if they have left wing economic views such as Trade unionism, nationalisation/public ownership, public healthcare etc.

I don't know where this idea came from that you cannot be economically left wing and socially conservative, this was pretty much the norm until well into the 1990's, pretty much every single eastern blok state and leftist political party was socially conservative, if they started ranting about trans and gay rights they would've alienated the population, much like they're doing now honestly, new labour for example is alienating working class voters.

I think the horcrux is a very interesting idea that is original as far as I know. Very cool.

As for the bigger question, the male-led household was the product of an artificial scarcity of men created by war... A near equal population distribution means female control of cultural norms through collective bargaining in sexual preferences, and those men who "drop out," by becoming trannies, gays, incels, or asexual monks are doing their part to restore order in an adverse situation. People should be allowed access to hormones as soon as they are 18 & legally old enough to be independent of their parents, and since troonyism is not a mental illness but rather a psychological reconfiguration to a harsher sexual-ecological environment than they were prepared for, men should also allowed unrestricted access to steroids, and those who burn out their reproductive capacities in this way will have incurred no loss by the same logic in which trannies remove themselves from the species-being

the horcrux is very reminiscent of the phylactery of a Lich. a lich will regenerate if you do not destroy the phylactery which contains the essence of his soul

    >I went to the Yale bookstore and bought and read a copy of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” I suffered a great deal in the process. The writing was dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character “stretched his legs.” I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling’s mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing.

    >But when I wrote that in a newspaper, I was denounced. I was told that children would now only read J.K. Rowling, and I was asked whether that wasn’t, after all, better than reading nothing at all? If Rowling was what it took to make them pick up a book, wasn’t that a good thing?

    >It is not. “Harry Potter” will not lead our children on to Kipling’s “Just So Stories” or his “Jungle Book.” It will not lead them to Thurber’s “Thirteen Clocks” or Kenneth Grahame’s “Wind in the Willows” or Lewis Carroll’s “Alice.”

    >Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, “If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King.” And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read “Harry Potter” you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Why did he feel the need to make this up? Were there not enough bad things in the book for his essay so he had to invent them?

Simple, he didn't read the book and thought that nobody would check if he just made something up (and he was pretty much right, most people that know the "stretched his legs" meme think it's actually true).

        >The decision to give the National Book Foundation’s annual award for “distinguished contribution” to Stephen King is extraordinary, another low in the shocking process of dumbing down our cultural life. I’ve described King in the past as a writer of penny dreadfuls, but perhaps even that is too kind. He shares nothing with Edgar Allan Poe. What he is is an immensely inadequate writer, on a sentence-by-sentence, paragraph-by-paragraph, book-by-book basis.

        >The publishing industry has stooped terribly low to bestow on King a lifetime award that has previously gone to the novelists Saul Bellow and Philip Roth and to playwright Arthur Miller. By awarding it to King, they recognize nothing but the commercial value of his books, which sell in the millions but do little more for humanity than keep the publishing world afloat. If this is going to be the criterion in the future, then perhaps next year the committee should give its award for distinguished contribution to Danielle Steel, and surely the Nobel Prize for literature should go to J.K. Rowling.

The context of his criticism of Rowling there is kind of important.

incredibly disingenuous post. even if surgical interventions are postponed until 18, you know very well that the indoctrination that makes you think you need them is targeted at children. troonyism cannot exist as a mass movement without exploiting minors because the basic mechanisms of recruitment rely on hijacking the confusion and alienation that come with puberty.

If you look at things in a dichotomy of power, transgender people are incredibly powerful compared to for example white working class people, they can cancel people, influence the media, have multi billion dollar corporations on their side, the average working class person doesn't have this.

It's an illusion that they created that they have no power whatsoever, and are perpetual victims. It comes from a constant psychological need for approval and totalitarian control, by constantly trying to get others to focus on their needs they are also diverting attention away from issues which may be affecting ordinary people, like the epidemic of drug addiction, crime, poverty etc, things what are of actual importance in making sure a nation is worth living in, not things such as a persons physical features or how they dress and perceived by others which is of literal no importance.

If you keep neglecting a majority of the population in favour of a insignificant minority, it will eventually get ugly.

Rowling is creative but she's a terrible writer. Unironically her best work has been on Twitter. Her actual prose in Harry Potter is garbage and full of rookie mistakes, the kind of thing you'd expect from a new writer but not someone who'd had years of international success as the series went on. I feel like it got worse over time rather than better. Always assumed that was due to a combination of less criticism from editors after be became super successful, and the characters and readers outgrowing her writing ability. Like if you're writing for 10-year-olds you can put some really moronic stuff down on paper and it works. Not when you're dealing with 18yos. But a lot of it was just writing frickups. My mother was an editor, and I kept thinking "if mom read this to me as a kid she'd stop and explain why this is wrong every couple chapters."

Now, I'm not hating on HP in general. It's fun and if I was more into rolling with the wizards and shit I'd still like it despite the furry-fanfic-skill-tier writing. What really concerns me are people in their 30s who say they're the best books they've ever read. I read it for the first time as an adult and I came away thinking it was pretty meh.

She spent a good chunk of her day seething about a bunch of stuff and I did a bit of shitposting myself.
3 bottles of rosé deep she opens up the folder where she has saved a bunch of photos of trans people along with articles about them and she posts like 11 or 12 consecutive back to back seetheposts because a law came into force and she's concerned about her rights as a woman.

I'm sitting down here posting 2000 char posts on IQfy all morning about shit nobody in the streets of Edinburgh gives a frick about and so was she.
She's a rich LARPer who pretends to have been working class and she can afford those 3 bottles of rosé but I'm disabled and after reading the hate crime & public order acta bit ago and again just last week, it's pretty good stuff and a step forward. It would have been used against my junkie neighbour before he offed himself on cheap street diazepam and fent.
She's fricking around in her giant garden with her dog and I was fricking around in my giant garden with my dog.
She's abusing substances and aging like milk caring about her identity a bit (typed b***h here by accident) much, getting her rocks off posting on twitter in a frenzy and I'm taking 46 degree 2 hour baths reading shitty Japanese novels blasting the FF V soundtrack on repeat because I'm not inputting attacks fast enough due to my brain melting and when I finally ascend from my hot throne I'm trying to not pass out due to the triple threat combo of POTS, near heatstroke and low blood pressure from trying to cook myself alive.
I felt mega relaxed apart from the brief FF V sesh but my smart watch used to monitor my blood pressure thinks I'm the most stressed I've been this week

Jo will be a few more bottles deep and she might go for a nap, wake up in the late evening and go back to posting or maybe she'll commit a hate crime accidentally.
I'm much the same but without the alcohol; because MUP & austerity has priced it out of my range. I might finally get to sleep and I might just wake up at 9pm or I may soldier on and accidentally also commit a hate crime by accident.

It's moments like these that it all comes into focus, that we're not so different after all.
I mean we have different political opinions, she hates her neighbours and abandons her hedge and I quite like a bit of gardening and also hate my neighbours but in the granular moments, in the most obtuse sense we are kindred spirits and the only difference is that we have different obsessions.
I spent the morning thinking about villainy and the philosophical concepts attached to it and if a crime can be committed if no one is left to witness it and she spent the morning doing the same in the same city at the same time.
Funny how the world works. In a different life I'd be the billionaire class traitor arsing around the other end of town and she'd be the NEET mentally unfit loser. Well she's close on the others.
