People have replaced God with consuming instead. Notice how very rabid some people become when you insult their favourite brand? No different than in the past when you insulted the God they would have worshiped instead.
fpbp. There's more to it but this basically sums up the effects of advertising/propaganda on the population. Also parasocial relationships. Holy shit those are getting bad now. I mentioned I didn't like some youtuber's voice and opened an entire can of worms with that comment.
The first step in saving money is installing adblock.
Who is consuming though?
What is there to even consume?
>what is there even to consume in the age of consumerism
The most prescient question of our age
50% of mutts are holes
13% of mutts are shitskins and wetbacks
This. Even under Bidenomics I'd wager most hierarchical, individualistic white men are saving money in Bitcoin or other assets.
>individualistic white men are saving money in Bitcoin or other assets.
really? You think rational intelligent white men are still putting money into fakecoins?
I use XMR.
Didn't ask, any crypto is an absolute scam. Just because the biggest scam (bitcoin) has the most popularity doesn't make any of them a good idea.
>13% of mutts are shitskins and wetbacks
Kek maybe in 1870?
Who's going to tell this moron that only 1 in 5 people in America are white males?
It's expensive here, homie.
Excuses, the devils favorite tool. Next to pedophillia.
I advocate pedophiles being hanged, personally.
That's a lot of nooses around statehouses
One can dream.
Because its not easy watching people on social media flashing their cars, new purchases, taking vacations, etc. Social media created a new american dream and people need to keep up by buying things so they can feel like they have accomplished something just as they have seen on tictok or instagram.
Top if all off with rising cost of goods and services...its going to get a lot worse.
If you have such little agency as this you are either a woman, a brown, or a soijak
>Debt
>insurance
>RE/mortgage
>tax tax tax tax tax tax tax
They don't call it FIRE for nothing. Everyone has to pay their dues to the big 3 and their indentured servant fees to the Feds and the States.
Lifestyle inflation. The moment people get a raise they fill that new space with new payments.
>The moment people get a raise
Theres also a lot of people that anticipate a raise, or anticipate a bonus, or expect money to come "soon" and spend it before its in their bank accounts.
they can't cook and are spending around 3-4k/month on food because they can't stop eating
People live large at the ragged edge. $100,000 isn’t a lot of money anymore.
>$100,000 isn’t a lot of money anymore.
People still think it is because of the psychological impact of going from 5 figures to 6 figures. So they're spending like they've made it but really they're still a wagie.
Californians and New Yorkers, the most densely populated states which have the highest taxes
Wow
Its like... most six figure earners live in very high cost of living regions making their big number go poof the same way as anywhere else with lower number
Its all smokes and mirrors
rabid consumer culture and assets as status symbols
>early/mid 30s woman on the bus is talking to her friend about having $200 in savings and then says she shouldn't get uber eats so much
People like this don't really exist do they? Thinking about having savings under $5k is giving me an anxiety attack
I think the worst part is the distortion of the "price is right" effect the last few years we got from inflation. That is, while I still think $200, is a lot, it's frick all these days.
$200 today is what $1 was when the federal reserve was created
The Equal Credit Opportunity Act was a mistake.
>getting raped by inflation by keeping your money in "savings"
>Jessica Dickler
Because people are financially illiterate. They see a stack of cash and the first thing they think about is how to spend it.
You learn to spend what's in your pocket.
Making 300k in San Francisco is like making 60k in Colorado.
idk lol
>id
oy vey
I just met a couple that nets over $200k a year and got to hear how they live paycheck to paycheck, and here I am making poverty wages, only about a quarter of what they make, and I live comfortably with enough left over to save and invest and not have any debt besides the mortgage.
I don't fricking get it.
>I don't fricking get it.
because you just live frugally and they're out there enjoying what life has to offer and it costs money.
You can enjoy what life has to offer frugally. Nobody needs
>overpriced concert every month
>4 week long vacations a year out of country
>new car every two years
>$2000 food expenses every month
>donating to """charity"""
My wife and i make about 240k a year combined and we are living paycheck to paycheck
Tell your wife to spend less money when she goes out to dinner with her yoga instructor
my wife doesnt do yoga or go out for dinner
dont be misled by news titles. those 6 figure earners just live the good life ans consoom a lot. as we saw during covid, people can easily stop spending if they feel they need to suddenly be careful
After covid, I’ve noticed 80% of the population just do as they’re told...
>go to college, get loan
>get job, get taxed
>buy house, get loan
>buy car, get loan
>take vacation
>buy more shit
>take vax
>take booster
They stress and don’t know why they don’t have any money after. They never take a step back to see that the israelites manipulated them into slavery.
muh avocado toast mufugga
Old news.
I live in southern California and spend literally half of my post-tax income (low 6 figs) on housing+utilities costs so I don't have to live in one of the neighborhoods where your car gets broken into once per month. No car payments, no real debt to speak of, the only bad financial habit I have is gambling on crypto and eating out 1-2x a week.
homie you're getting robbed. Are you renting a big house or something? I'm in 1 bedroom in downtown Seattle and my housing costs including services and electrical are well under 30k yearly.
I'm aware. I live in a 1 BR/BA, I got an apartment with a built-in den so I could write it off on my taxes so it's a little more expensive than a normal 1 BR but not by much ($200 more/month). It's just insanely expensive to live here unless you're willing to deal with roommates (all of my friends have moved out of CA or to other cities so it would have to be a stranger) or are willing to live in the barrio with the nicaraguan illegals who listen to to banda at full volume until 3 am and constantly have domestic disputes. Also if you have anything better than a '99 civic they will break your windows to get into your car.
Sounds even worse than Seattle. I'm honestly thinking about moving away and working remotely if possible. Sorry to say it but the US is gaining shithole status quite rapidly.
t. dirty (but white) foreigner
It's very bad right now. I'm a lifelong socal resident and a 4th generation californian and it's looking like I'll need to accept my downscale status and move out of the state despite technically being in the top 10% of earners in the country. Rents and COL went completely out of control here starting around 2019 and a lot of people like me are being pushed out by wealthy foreigners working at the new tech startups in the nicer parts of LA metro.
I'm also really tired of hearing disgustingly ugly people jabber in hindi/farsi/urdu/etc while walking around and at grocery stores if I'm being totally honest. Used to be only Koreans and other flavors of east asia who had annoying elderly but at least the girls were loose and great lays. New arrivals are all chubby and get really into woke politics bc they see it as a way to gain status.
Yeah, I get it. I'm self-conscious about being an immigrant. Not that I would take any shit from a native about it, but I can't imagine you'd be very happy seeing so many foreigners coming in and for the best jobs there are. Unironically the places where I see native citizens the most are bus drivers, cafeteria workers, waiters. Like wtf? This makes no sense to me.
I'm here on a great job and do feel like I deserve it, and that the company should be able to get a visa for me and hire me, don't get me wrong. But if you US citizens woke up tomorrow and decided to void all recent visas and greencards, I couldn't be mad about it. In fact I'd think it's a based move even if it inconveniences me.
The government and subversive elements have spent a LOOOOONG time trying to destroy American nationalism. Replacement is one of the last steps in this process.
Be careful. Keep in mind you only get one life, and security is invaluable. Make sure you have an escape route at all times in case something pops off (imagine being a resident of the CHAZ in Seattle when that popped off).
>Sorry to say it but the US is gaining shithole status quite rapidly.
As much as that's true, and it is true, everywhere else is worse. It's very depressing to think about.
Keep it up man. That's what I did for about 5 years and got debt free and accumulated enough bitcoin to retire early. One time I wound up cash strapped so bad I was literally eating bread and peanut butter in a hotel room until I realized I could go get a personal loan from my bank and have the money in my account in 24 hours. Keep grinding king.
I thought about commenting but there was no point. He's simply NGMI. 10k wouldn't change his life the same way 100k or 1M wouldn't. He'd still be the same person and he'd eventually be broke again.
Based but also I'm sorry for your losses. XMR is the only crypto I'm in the red on (well that and PNK but I've written that off entirely as a loss for tax purposes).
>sorry for your losses
Doesn't actually bother me that much. I mostly use it to buy drugs. If I used it like a savings account it would've hurt, but I don't because I'm not super concerned about the price spiking. XMR is pretty clearly decoupled from BTC in my mind.
$10,000 would alter the course of my life and allow me some time to work on my fulfilling hobbies instead of waging so much. The only thing I spend money on is bills and food so I'd stretch it to a year.
This right here is why Americans are so bad with money
>$10,000 would alter the course of my life
It wouldn't. Its a lot of money but that simply isn't life changing money anymore.
>allow me some time to work on my fulfilling hobbies instead of waging so much.
You said the reality out loud and don't even realize it. If you had $10,000 land in your lap you'd work less and blow it on funcopops and bullshit. Within a year you'd be exactly where you are today complaining (with inflation) how you have to work so much and can't enjoy your hobbies that you dumped $10k into.
They've never written it all down. They've never used a checkbook, a ledger, excel, whatever, to actually sit down and see the money in and money out. They're high time preference and are so absorbed in their jobs that any break or relief from it doesn't seem like real life, but a dream. The time spent not working is usually spent "watching shows." Going to Red Lobster or Olive Garden every week is pretty much a given. The car isn't the low end model or old - it's the newer high-end model in a 3-year revolving lease. The mortgage is likely +$500 more than it should be. They financed their sofa, their appliances, their 4k OLED TV, and their furnace.
You realize that inflation has lowered the dollar value by 43% since 2010. This means that making $100k in 2024 is the same as $71k in 2010?
They've destroyed our buying power.
Not to mention the national debt increases by $1 trillion every 100 days now, kek.
The suffering that is going to be unleased in the US will be awesome to behold. It will be unprecedented levels of discord and abject savagery. And Americans will deserve every second of it. The world is healing.
You do realize that nearly half of women making low six figures were living paycheck to paycheck
>in the 90's
>women
Well there's your problem.
I live paycheck to paycheck because I dump 33% of what I earn into savings (crypto and stocks) and pretend it doesn't exist except to make more money for me to use someday...
I live paycheck to paycheck because I dump all of my extra money into Chainlink
I live paycheck to paycheck because I invest almost everything. I'm slumming it up
"Six figures", especially if its on the lower end but even if its not, is going to get eaten up pretty fast in large metro areas.
