How do I download Linux on my computer?

How do I download Linux on my computer? There's a file with the extension ".iso" and it doesn't do anything when I click it. Did I download the wrong file?

I could it explain but just look up a guide, you have flash the .iso file onto a USB drive, and then boot from it.

Also if your trying to do this on a ac give up it will save you a ton of trouble.

you usually have to insert a usb driver, you can just search "how to download [INSERT LINUX DISTRO]"

    OS MASTER

linux is already on your computer and you probably just don't realize it.
    Look, for example, in C:WindowsSystem32etc
Here you will find linux files like the hosts file

What other reason would someone learn about burning an iso to a usb drive? It doesn't seem realistic to think knowledge of that would be some sort of prerequisite to learning linux. Installing linux is a great way to learn many fundamentals of computers. Is op an idiot? Probably, but should that deter them from becoming less of an idiot? No. Do better. You are a disgrace to the linux community

there's a difference between not knowing how to burn an iso to a usb drive and not even knowing what an iso is in the first place kek
if one can't connect two braincells together to at least google what the fricking file does, no, they're not ready yet

It's sort of an introductory challenge in how computers work. If OP is dedicated enough to figure it out, he shouldn't have any problems running Mint or something and playing around with that until he starts to understand it. Then, you just let the autism wash over you like the cold embrace of the ocean as the undertow drags you to the ArchWiki. I just wanted a cool looking laptop, now I'm autistically mapping out keybindings and doing everything from the command line.

Burn the .iso file to a flash drive or a CD. If you dont know how to burn an iso file to a flash drive or CD, do a web search to find a tutorial.
After burning the iso to a flash drive or CD, restart your computer, with the flash drive or CD inserted.
When your computer first powers on, press a key on your keyboard to enter the BIOS menu (what key you have to press varies depending on the brand of computer; for example it might be F2 or F12)
Then once you are in the BIOS menu, find something called "boot device priority" (it might be called something different but it will be something similar to that), and select the flash drive or CD that you made as your boot device
Then save changes and exit the BIOS menu (you can normally save and exit by pressing F10, at least on a PC, not sure about mac)
Now you will boot into your Linux flash drive or CD
It may give you the option to "try" or "install". In which case you can install from here. Otherwise you can just boot into the flash drive or CD (either by clicking "try", or it might just automatically boot into it without giving the option), at which point you should see an option somewhere (probably an icon on the desktop) that allows you to install.
The installation will be a straightforward wizard.
Once you have finished installing, you can remove the flash drive or CD and restart your computer, then you'll boot into your fresh new Linux install.
Congratulations, you are no longer quite as big of a homosexual as you used to be! Keep it up and maybe one day you will no longer crave other men at all!

Most windows cucks never install windows themselves, they just buy a computer with it pre-installed, and if something breaks they take it in to a computer shop to get it fixed.

Install ventoy on a usb drive. Then put the iso on the usb drive. Restart the PC and boot from the USB drive.

You need to burn it to a bootable drive first.

you need to write the .iso file to a USB key using a program like Rufus. https://rufus.ie/en/ Make sure you tick the box that makes the image bootable. You also need to enter your BIOS setup screen and change the boot order so that the PC tries to boot off the USB key instead of your hard disk. Once Linux is installed, change the boot order back to boot from your hard disk.

      >Once Linux is installed, change the boot order back to boot from your hard disk.
OP, before you do all this, make sure to backup windows so you can install it again after you realize Linux is deficient as frick and not worth your time.
If you want to actually try Linux out, keep a windows machine and buy a spare to try Linux out

I told him to backup DATA if he is going to install linux alongside windows. As in pics, videos, etc. Not to backup his entire windows install.
But chances are he is planning to just overwrite windows and have only linux, in which case he will obviously be saving his data elsewhere first. I am just pointing out that in the off chance he decides to keep windows installed and just install linux alongside it, he should backup data first in case anything fricks up.
You are a homosexual for suggesting he backs up his entire windows installation (unless that isnt what you meant) and you are moronic as frick and gay and trans and black and israeli for suggesting that windows is better than linux or that he should keep a windows machine
