Something like this needs to happen. The internet needs to be nuked and reset to ground 0 in order to be great again. The internet was better when it was only nerds. The current mental health crisis proves that normies can't handle the internet either.

Here's how, but you're not going to like it.

    National Civic Network:
To save the internet we need to kill every major social media company in the USA, and we do that by forcing the government to create a platform for us citizens only.

    Verified IDs
    Rights preserving discourse
    Warrant required data
    Unfettered access to Representatives
Future ingress to transparent online voting, agency access, national referendums, etc.

But first, it begins with having actual Free Speech not Elon Musks marketing pitch bullshit. Real people, real voices will save the real internet from Boomers and Zoomers. Personally, I think killing modern browsers is a must and replacing the classic page/app with a more RSS approach to publishing only extended to other classes like products, services, interests, events etc.

    Just my two cents.

The only prediciton you got right is 'Verified IDs'. And it's gonna be tedious, privatized, and require payment (and possibly a subscription).
        Enjoy.

Nice quads, but I must remind you that you will never be a woman

I told you you wouldn't like it. It is the only way to save the internet though. We need a government platform to push people into that will kill the ad incentive and completely squash the mass buying of data, backroom data deals, and coerced censorship.

Why do people think creating a National Civic Network where the government would BY LAW be forced to uphold free speech and wouldn't have to give way to 50 state regulators and foreign laws like the EU bullshit data consent nonsense.

Having a place for true protected civil discourse doesn't mean we lose the ability to make our own webpages, apps, and services.

          >Why do people think creating a National Civic Network where the government would BY LAW be forced to uphold free speech
because the government doesn't follow the law

That's because the people keep pushing this "gomment too big" narrative that disempowers them while giving a green light to bad actors in power. Giving lawyers a whole knew arena in which to frick with the government on matters of Constitutional law has a much better chance of working out for citizens than politicians and bureaucrats.

        >Ads and trackers
Yes, we have adblocks for that and they're getting better, but that's the one way for-profit apps can stay afloat. The only way to stop that would be abolishing capitalism or getting people used to paying for the services they use which would imply a better global economy not dominated by corrupt corporations in the global north. It's a socioeconomic issue more than a technological one.
Also, I have found products I actually wanted in ads and I don't think I would have found them otherwise.

            >just use a vpn for everything
No. You don't need to do that.
            >just hide the rest of your life while still doing normie things
No. You can just act like a normie on normienet.
            >take the risk that your vpn provider doesn't have ipv6 protection and thus your address is still revealed even though you're connected
You could easily do some basic research on VPN providers if this is a concern.
            >just trust the corporations that have repeatedly sold out users at the slighted whim of a government agency
            >here bro just assume the worst case threat model and therefore don't do anything because you already lost boohoo
There are always risks. A VPN isn't going to stop the gubberment if they're already on your ass. But it will provide privacy for regular IRC usage. I'm not suggesting doing anything that would really interest the government over a normal corporate VPN.
