L and Light are entertaining but fairly one-dimensional. I wouldn't classify them as great characters, in the sense that I don't take them seriously, they don't make me think or reflect in any way, nor are their behaviours mappable to any kind of reality. So no, you won't learn how to make great characters by literary standards from just watching anime.
Underground man isn’t that multifaceted beyond the show of pride that got him abused and shunned by friends. But even then, it reminded me of something out of Pushkin than purely Dostoevsky. Profiry is also a bit of a shit detective and all of Dosto’s women are 2 dimensional, as either martyrs, saintly prostitutes, or whatever (which was what his publishers wanted from him).
I read the first 2 volumes of chainsaw man. Painfully cliche. Unremarkable artwork. Unnecessary sexual suggestiveness to bait coomers. Standard shonen cliches (weak main character turns out to actually be strong; main character has some sort of evil power that risks isolating them, etc)
Well if you are writing stories for mentally ill people who get sentimentally attached to crude cartoons that somewhat resemble females and you have to ask, don't even try.
