I remember when people we're b***hing about how much the win10 start menu sucked. Now its fricking amazing and great, while the new thing (win11 start menu) is dogshit and useless.
We've come full circle. The internet never surprises me anymore.

This happens time a new Windows version comes out.
      >Windows [X] is the shittiest operating system in the world. Windows [X - 1] is literally perfect, I'm never upgrading.
      *Microsoft releases Windows [X + 1]*
      >Windows [X + 1] is the shittiest operating system in the world. Windows [X] is literally percent, I'm never upgrading.
      repeat ad infinitum

No one hated the 10 start menu
It was the 8 menu that was universally hated

Compared to Win7's start menu, Win10's fricking sucked.
It still kept the dumb tiles inherited from Win8, kept ads in the start menu and accessing the tiles from the keyboard is harder than accessing favorites was on Win7 (you just had to press Win-key, arrow up or down and enter).

It still sucks. But ClassicShell fixes it.

I thought it was shit until I tried using it, live tiles are far better than I used to give them credit. You can also group things and make subgroups, I wish you could make fully horizon tiles too but it's good enough.
Meanwhile, 11 lets you pin icons with no sense of organization or customizability at all. Frick you.

What's the use case of customizing your main menu?

I use mine as a focus aid. Video courseware websites for example are pinned in a particular order of study.

Also use it to pin priority tools, PWAs like Google Keep, ChatGPT and Brain.fm.

Same way wincucks went from "the infinitely more useful and customizable start menu in 7 to the shit we got in 8 and 10". They force themselves to "like" the turds pajeetsoft keeps feeding them.

It's just as shit as the one in 11, and personally I think it's more ugly than 11's. It reminds me of the disgusting metro UI from 8.

Why use a start menu at all, Macs don’t have anything like that. Can you imagine logging in to your computer and simply seeing your apps with no weather or news or Bing AI or windows updates pops. On Mac you just do CMD+Spacebar and type the app you want to open, it doesn’t search the web or any nonsense it just opens the app or file you wanted. Just you and your computer. Windows is so invasive I wish I didn’t need a desktop at all.

This is the main reason why I won't ""up""grade to Win11 until Microsoft forces me to. 11 UI in general is terrible. I miss Windows Phone.
