i don't read regularly, i just read sometimes. i read a lot of boards though and i'm trying to separate out their literary properties. so far all i have is the max post topic, or Hegelian Reflection, which we did last night
It helps to set a sustainable goal beforehand and outline the specifics. How many words do you want to read in a day? What would be the best portion of the day to allot to reading? What/why do you want to read? I keep a lot of journals where I write notes and whatnot. It helps that I'm financially independent so I'm able to be more flexible with how I spend my time and I have more time than others to work with. Still, even assuming you're a wage slave if you can set aside 15 minutes a day to solid reading, that adds up slowly but surely. Probably helps to avoid electronics during that time unless it's an e-reader or device disconnected and unmediated. Spend less time talking about reading and more time doing it.
Most of my free time is spent reading. My kindle comes everywhere with me. Pull it out whenever I anticipate having a free moment >waiting room at dentist >sitting in car while girlfriend is inside grocery shopping >early for a client meeting or appointment
Doesn't really work because your brain quickly starts to associate reading with sleeping. Soon you'll find that trying to read at night will send you to sleep instantly and even in the day it will make you drowsy
I read while commuting because I have nothing better to do. And I commute about 2 hours a day 3 times a week (sometimes more)
I used to hate commuting because it was a waste of time but now I hate it because it's too crowded and I often can't read comfortably.
I don't read when I have other things to do.
To work, one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. It's pretty typical.
It's 2 hours each day total, 1 hour each way. I live and work in two different cities and have to take two buses, and that 1 hour includes the wait between the buses. I get a lot of reading done this way, it's really pleasant.
I mean I just like reading cause its enjoyable so i just do it anyway. I mean part of it is that it will help me in my own writing career but honestly who even knows if that'll take off so I just like to enjoy the stories anyways. Or atleast enjoy some good prose or whatever other possibly quality elements a work may have
Why do you need to make sure that you read regularly? If you have to force yourself to do it, maybe you don't enjoy it? I think that's just your ego saying that "that's what smart or cultured people are supposed to do and I want to be one of those"?
>If you have to force yourself to do it, maybe you don't enjoy it?
If that's the standard then I don't enjoy anything, even watching movies and TV shows part of me is looking at the minutes left until it's over.
>That's because you have depression.
I think it's just because I used to be drunk all the time and now I'm not. Even though objectively that time in my life was awful I felt like I was having fun. Nowadays I only drink every few months, I check back in hoping it'll be fun like I remember it being but it never really is.
I use public transport to get to work. About an hour each way. I don't always read all the time on there but mostly and when I'm not too tired. Downside is that I find it hard to get reading done when I don't work or work from home.
I just make a point to read for at least an hour a day whenever I have free time. That usually amounts to 40-50 pages depending on the book. If I miss a day, then the next day I have to read at least twice as much.
If you miss a day then you must read 80-100 pages in one hour? It seems rather unrealistic unless you are reading easily digestible books or you have one of the best retentions in the world.
I'm planning on making a online book club type thing with an email newsletter and a discussion board. I figure it'll keep me accountable, make other people have a reason to stay on track reading, and the discussion should make the reading more enjoyable overall. I'd post a link here eventually but I'd probably just get told to buy an ad.
What do you mean? If you enjoy reading and you have time for it then you will read everyday. You don't need a reminder to read otherwise unless you don't enjoy it. You shouldn't treat it as brushing your teeth or cleaning your room.
I try to read for 40 min-1 hour every morning before work. Then if work is slow I'll read a little here and there throughout the day.
The only tracking system I use is Goodreads just because I like their reading Challenges, not because I care how many books others read or write reviews, but because it's cool to have a history of what you were reading at a specific time.
I read whenever I want to read, and that is common.
I also make sure to use the time where I don't do anything at all to read. For example, when I'm shitting or when I'm in the public transport.

Go grocery shopping with your girlfriend. It's a good bonding activity
> t. gf of original anon trying to trick him
i had to schedule time for it rigidly for a while but now it's part of my routine and my day feels off without it
read every night until you get tired and fall asleep
simple as
this. Only downside is that you might need to re-read a few pages if you got very drowsy before giving up the night before
Doesn't really work because your brain quickly starts to associate reading with sleeping. Soon you'll find that trying to read at night will send you to sleep instantly and even in the day it will make you drowsy
Read everyday until it is a habit. Sorry there isn’t a cheat and you have to do it the old fashioned way
I commute 2 hours each day by bus so I just read on the bus
Where to? That's a very long ride to undertake on a daily basis.

It is literally impossible for me right now :3
I used to post here all the time but I work 65 hours a week right now.

I'm an unemployed bum so I get books from the library and try to read 80-100 pages a day.
If I were unemployed that's what I would do.
Read all the time, every day.
Why do you need to make sure that you read regularly? If you have to force yourself to do it, maybe you don't enjoy it? I think that's just your ego saying that "that's what smart or cultured people are supposed to do and I want to be one of those"?
Eh, reading, especially non-fiction, is like medicine. It is, in general, VERY good for you, however sometimes it can be dry or unenjoyable to read.
That's how it starts, then you get to love it.
Fiction readers won't really know this feel. :3
I read fiction to get the TRUTH, non-fiction is just a bunch of "facts" half of which will be disproved in five years.
>If you have to force yourself to do it, maybe you don't enjoy it?

That's understandable, you get more cynical with age. I barely enjoy anything these days.
That's because you have depression. Normal people aren't like that. They actually enjoy life
>That's because you have depression.

You've posted this three times itt
This isn't something that only one person does, moron.
there's like no one posting. Quite a coincidence then because the other guy definitely did post it twice.
My bad man. Calm down.
I enjoy reading so I do it every day

No, then I just read for two hours instead of one.

i take a book when i have a shit and read a chapter or two. i read pretty slowly unless a book really grabs me
I read whenever I want to read, and that is common.
I also make sure to use the time where I don't do anything at all to read. For example, when I'm shitting or when I'm in the public transport.
I am reading Moby Dick out loud to a child. If I forget about it, then he pesters me until I read it to him.
Same as going to the gym regularly. When you don't feel like reading, just go do it anyway. pussy
Read in my browser
Read on my phone
Read at work
>How do you make sure you read regularly?
Focused commitment, and committed focus.
