I fricking hope so. I'm so limitlessly curious about evolutionary constraints upon neural processing. I just want to find out. God if some NN can figure it all out tomorrow I'm just going to fricking coooommmmm

the complexity of my job in terms of language makes it so that it will never get automated
        >input symptoms
        >output treatment
no, you'd have to input a whole story or a history as we call and not just 'symptoms' it as well as prior comorbidities etc
then you have to do a physical exam and inform etc etc
not to mention people are very different in terms of how they experience symptoms

to have an AI be a doctor you'd need a singularity and the day that happens is the day all jobs get replaced

My man NLP is one of the biggest areas of AI. 95%+ of your job could be automated tomorrow, and given the rate of medical malpractice it wouldn't even have to be very good to statistically outperform real doctors. Really the only thing preventing it from happening is that everyone knows older people don't trust computers.

            >My man NLP is one of the biggest areas of AI.
a program can't take a history, it doesn't have the ability to understand language. Yes you can parse it somewhat convincingly but there's no real understanding

for a program to be a doctor it needs to act totally human and pass the turing test basically
it's just not happening until we get a singularity
for a program to be a doctor it needs to basically be a human, AGI, strong AI

AI can determine race from an xray. You can't.

        Anonymous

the best AI for X-rays just says 'normal/not normal' and a human has to look at it again

and chest X-ray is a trivial routine exam that a human radiologist takes 20 seconds to read
not to mention chest X ray is a fairly simple type of input - an image. And AI is still nearly useless

I worked at a factory once and it was all cnc machines which already reduced labor like 95% compared to the old days. That 5% is pretty hard to get rid off and its so pointless to just not use labor when its an available resource. One might as well say im not going to use iron or cement or wood, just as an ideological goal.

I haven't seen a single real job that's been fully automated to the point where no human input is needed, neural networks are a brainlet meme, they can't do anything but run linear computations according to preset algorhitms, they lack out of the box or critical thinking and couldn't even replace a single ant in a colony
