depends I guess. If you use 3rd party FOSS clients to watch youtube does it count as degoogling?

With FreeTube and Newpipe you have the options of not even using YouTube/Google servers, I've been proxying everything through Invidious for several months now.
AFAIK the only Google related software/hardware I still use is my Android phone, which I have running /e/ OS and MicroG to get away from Google as much as possible on that front.

      Feels good man.

right but my point it that "degoogling" might mean stepping away from the product itself, not just from the cancerous 1st party clients

The only way I could degoogle myself any further would be to use a Pinephone as my primary/only contact device, but unfortunately they're just not ready yet.
I see what you're saying about simply by "partaking" or consuming a product, even if you're proxying it through a bunch of other front ends, could still be seen as using the service.
For me, not relying on Google servers or clients is enough right now. If there comes a point where things like Freetube, Newpipe, MicroG, etc don't work anymore due to Google shoving their dick into everything, then that'll be enough to push me off the edge and stop trying to make compromises.

Also, in the case of YouTube/Invidious, since I'm not using neither any of their primary YT clients, nor their Google/YT servers, I'm not contributing any traffic to them, view counts, engagement, etc. So for me, that's enough right now.
Hopefully alternative video services continue to grow, but it'll take a lot for anything to come close to YT's volume.

most of the channels I like have switched but surprisingly Level1techs is holding back. I don't think they know it exists otherwise they'd switch pretty quickly

i don't considering watching youtube videos as "using a google product" per-se, since the videos are not produced or otherwise directly influenced by google, google is simply the hosting provider
just the same as i wouldn't turn away a download from a google drive link
i just won't post videos there myself

youtube is a google product and if you're using it you are using a google product. its not rocket science

well look, if i could torrent the youtube videos i watch, i would, but i can't
i'm not that much of a purist that i won't use tools like invidious and yt-dlp to download video made by other people from google servers, just as i wouldn't refuse to email someone because they have a gmail address

    >deApple
really fricking easy and you're a braindead moron if you havent done that already
    >deGoogle
now thats a bit harder, unless you don't have a life (GApps for using bank apps, for example)

      >GApps for using bank apps
I 've seen that again here. Why would anyone need a bank app? What is this shit. If you absolutely need to do banking on the go for some reason e-banking(and phone banking btw) is thing and you can do it through any browser.
It's almost like 95% of apps people have on their phones are webapps with extra surveillance.

e-banking is becoming almost impossible without either a lengthy tedious verification process or using a fingerprint sensor on your phone

the code is delivered in the app, not over sms

Don't know about that. My bank claims the same but I can get the codes in normalgay sms just as well.

    >degoogle
pretty easy with the exception of your phone. As long as you are OK with the freetard apps on fdroid and having a shitty freetard map app it's not too bad
    >deapple
Literally just stop being gay. If this is a problem for you, you simply aren't going to make it.

You don't need to do this. You don't need to block ads either.

literally me. Thankfully there are debian drivers for my smartcard but the certificate installation process in firefox is super tedious and it works in a janky way
