Usually I don't, but happened one time. Couple in the flat above me had a passionate night once. The most loud was mostly bed with sounds like someone was nailing it down to the floor. Some moans were heard too.

      Henlo.

I just realized your local climate has to be one of the most depressing climates for living in civilization.

Well, I live in a region that is famous for its shitty weather even compared to neighbour regions (it's more cloudy, snowy, rainy here). But it's still better than many places in other parts of country. If this place could be always like this, I would be happy. I can't stand the constant heat, which was in past few years. Sometimes it can be constant temperatures around +35C for the whole summer, sometimes it can be snow in June and temperatures around zero in August.

Why did they settle there? Hunting, or industry?

          Anonymous

Industry, river routes, minerals and metals, land. Many causes. Besides there is no place good for living in this country by climate. As I said it's not the worst place.
My city was originally a copper smelter factory and copper mines, then when the copper ore mines have been depleted focus of the factories changed to cannon production. It also had good position for river routes to get smelted iron and other metals through rivers, so it became capital of the region during reign of Catherine the Great.
Long before that the region was populated by Komi and Mansi, it was it's own Duchy for some time (it was really great by the way), most of the production was fur and salt. It was famous for salt before.
Btw, strange question from Greenland. Why did people settle in Greenland? That's a mystery...

            >Besides there is no place good for living in this country by climate.
It's understood as you've lived other places for a period? Or have a desire to have better climate by comparison, but are OK with current climate?
            >Why did people settle in Greenland? That's a mystery...
Hunting. Towns and villages along the coasts are located in islands, this is due to hunting. Mainly, whaling, then caribou and musk ox. Only south greenland have sheep farmers, then Nuuk has industry (harbour) this is because hunters preferred to live right in the middle of where both prey meet (tundra and marine mammals)

I have zero knowledge about your climate, but ours is very varied and unpredictable for each year that goes by. Three years ago, I'd rain with freezing cold making it very annoying to go out to work, the next year after more tolerable.
Only foreigners complain about weather conditions, not to say sometimes it gets tiresome of course.
Mindset is more 'weather is the only thing you can't change' hence no use commenting on it, or complaining about it, and which is why I make the first post.

Well I'm okay with many types of climate (I prefer anything without too dry and heat), but I meant in general. Here conditions aren't good to live in compare to European countries for example.
            > but ours is very varied and unpredictable for each year that goes by.
Same shit. As I wrote above:
            >Sometimes it can be constant temperatures around +35C for the whole summer, sometimes it can be snow in June and temperatures around zero in August.
It also applies to winter, sometimes long time with temperatures around -35C, sometimes rain on the 31st of December.
            >Mindset is more 'weather is the only thing you can't change' hence no use commenting on it, or complaining about it, and which is why I make the first post.

Since early 2000's has the sun appeared earlier, starting with hours, then days – I imagine in the foreseeable future earlier and earlier days due to the changing axis (as it' already apparent)

This translation calls it All Men are Brothers which Pearl admits in the foreword she chose arbitrarily to fit the theme of the novel. But nope I just got it in the mail yesterday. I've been studying Mandarin for a while now and want to deepen my knowledge of Chinese cultural stuff. And wanted to read this first English translation because Pearl S Buck was also a West Virginian who loved China so I feel a kinship with her. Going to visit her birthplace next month

Yeah. French as well. Learnt both languages. "The Scholars" is also a nice read. Great scholars and government officials do nothing but feast most of the time. Lao She and Lu Xun's works are also good if you want to see how regular folk lived: "Rickshaw Boy", "Four Generations under One Roof", "Diary of a Madman" or "Kong Yiji".
