Its such a sad display when ppl just read themselves to death. You lose all the originality when reading the works of others. You should think your own thoughts instead of stealing them from books.
I want to write a book that has lasting artistic value, but I am basically a wannabe Poe at this point in time and plan on reading a ton of classics beforehand to get the rhythm of old prose into my writing.
The content of the book will probably not be old. I am going to be very meticulous about the whole thing in order to craft something musical.
Not that many tbh
Just familiarize yourself with the basics of storytelling and then analyze the things that you like most about story telling and educate yourself about effective ways to convey certain ideas to the reader
beome familiar with story elements like pacing, plot, character development, themes, tension, etc
read some fiction to get an idea of how these devices are implemented, introspect on your own experience and ideas that you want to convey, research and make new experiences to inspire yourself
i dont know what makes stories good
>read more
No that doesnt work. i am not inexperienced. i just have no opinions on anything. i never take anything away from books after i finish reading them. i dont know what the basics of storytelling are
moron
Agree. The lack of originality of thought is what puts me off from reading. I'm tired of reading the same thing again and again and reading cringe fantasy fiction didn't help either.
I wonder what could drive to me to read again. The last book I read and actually like was about seven months ago. I'm so tired of reading most books nowadays, there seem to be lack of research for the topic and it's just lacking of substance.
People don't write like Shakespeare anymore, the prose that's presented beautifully with elegance and focus.
Anybody can recommend me that can entertain me?
Read the ficciones, as a person who related heavily to what you said I can say for sure this homie borges is a master-class in writing
I'm sorry Garth, but Chuck Tingle has also written more books than he has read. He achieved this Bigfeat yesterday.
A couple thousand helps out.
You become better at writing by writing.
moron.
moron
You become better at writing by being Garth Margenghi noted "Author" of Crabitalism.
Rule of thumb is 10,000 hours of practice in anything before you're good at it. So that would be 10k hours of reading and writing.
I have 10,000 hours in fricking your dad and he still sucks wiener like a new born baby
>Rule of thumb is 10,000 hours of practice
Go back. We don't want your Malcolm Gladwell bullshit around here.
I calculated what 10,000 hours equal to: it's actually about 13 and a half months of, in this case, reading time.
Looks like we've got a mathematics genius on our hand
How many movies do you watch to become a great director? How many meals do you eat to become a masterful chef? Sure, it probably helps, but you only become great at the art by doing it, not just observing others. The better question is, ‘how many rough drafts do so have to write and edit to make something I am satisfied with?’ The answer is: enough.
Just one. Mine.
>She's SMOOTH loike oice
Stupid question
I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards.
>”They made another thread about me? Motherfricker!”
just write homie. do you think people on wattpad or royalroad read to write? sure they write shit but sometimes one or two shine and i bet they wont even read shit
none if you kiss the bottom of the Hoof-footed One
None. You have it or you don't.
You choose 1 good book. Either KJV Bible or Moby Dick and attempt to emulate its style by writing several short stories in that manner.
After this you can begin to experiment and find your own groove.
Anything else is will result in YA slop.
a lot. At least an entire bookcase.
2 library worth. Few will understand this.
Now read that again.
>computer hacker circa 1897.jpg
>I wish I wrote good books like Dagless
Reading will make you a good reader, if you wanna be a good writer then write.
3, at least.
100
exactly 100
a gazillion
Depends on the person.
Zero (0), especially if they want to freely use their own voice & style, as opposed to simply emulating other writers, who had emulated prior authors, ad infinitum.
All of them
> read before they can write a timeless one
None
>how many books does one need to learn to write
Instead of: how many books does one need to write, to learn how to write? Books are there to gain inspiration from.
