the good stories you read
The things you are inspired by. This will come to you naturally when you read the good stories

Picture a book in your head that you would love, made up of things you like yet doesn't exist in the world.
That's what you will write.
That sounds extra comfy. Thanks friend

How to become a writer:
Step one: Just write
Noooo I must know how to be one of the greatest writers of all time BEFORE I start! Why would I start writing until I know everything there is to know? I could write something bad!
few people want to be the best ever, you take that as motivation, find inspiration, and drill
stories happen over one sitting
you should probably throw "critique" and "revise" somewhere in there too. no one gets better if they just pump out the same shit without actively identifying and fixing flaws and evolving their style.
True. But I think reading and writing are the most important things. Reading teaches story and writing 1000 words daily, perseverance.
I would say being critical is equally important to those things (critical without attachment). you need to be critical of what you are reading (otherwise how do you know you are reading "good" stories). and you need to be critical in the act of writing, otherwise you will just pump out gibberish which will only make you good at typing, not writing.
to be a GOOD writer, you also need feedback on your work, and a desire to push your abilities further
for me it is
>drink before going to sleep
>have vivid dreams
>write what I saw in my visions
so easy
either post excerpt or quit being an RPing homosexual on anonymous message boards.
not him, but it's a legitimate technique, lovecraft wrote about it/used it. don't expect substantial plots for anything longer than a couple pages though
oh I believe people do it. I just doubt that anon did it (mostly I just wanted to see some of what comes out of that technique).
Has anyone on this board ever sold copies of their work? If so, how well did you do? How long did it take to write?
I entered a contest a few years ago and got a $50 Amazon gift card for second place. does that count?
$50 more than I've ever made. Impressive.
Probably as close as I'm going to see
Old Howard may have used opium though, or at least that was the plot in one story
How to write.
>think of something to write
>write it
Don’t care for how long it is, this isn’t a school essay moron. Let it take its nature course. If your trying to get published (or just sell or show the world in general) just put all the short stories in a collection when your done and sell that
