I prefer his earlier prose style. Compare the syntax. He started with a compact style, medium-sized sentences, understated delivery. Then he probably got bored and started writing longer and longer sentences with ornate syntax. The problem is that this somehow made him more verbose, he started using more words than were necassary, the initial deadpen delivery was replaced by a more vague general verbosity, not a fan of it.
People who rely on critiqing "prose" instead of theme/content instantly out themselves as pseuds.

Sure, gay. Let's hear more about the prose of a writer who 99.9% of the people here have only read in translation.

You just implied prose doesn't matter and already contradict yourself, kek. Hey, it's about the content, just go read the GTP summary

>has no reading comprehension
Focusing on prose over content outs you as a pseud; this is ESPECIALLY pointless when it's a book most people have read only in translation.
Is that clear enough for you now, moron? No wonder you have to prose-LARP--you can't even understand basic sentences.

Wow. God forbid someone critique books for the ... writing! Go, read some nonfiction and frick off too.
Imagine remembering the style of previous works to a degree that can be used comparatively to assess the change in an author's writing over time and which may be used for qualitative judgment, as opposed to saying "this book was good", "this book was bad" and so on
>After this canine mini gang-bang I interrupted my viewing; I was disgusted – particularly on behalf of the dogs – and at the same time I couldn’t conceal the fact that for a Japanese girl sleeping with a Westerner wasn’t far off copulating with an animal (at least from what I had been able to observe of their mentality). Before leaving the master suite, I downloaded all the videos on to a USB stick. Yuzu’s face was easily recognisable, and I began to imagine drawing up a new liberation plan, which consisted very simply (good ideas are always simple) of throwing her out of the window.
>At about five in the evening, as she did every day, the little girl stopped her bike outside the birdwatcher’s bungalow. She knocked on the door for a long time, walked over to look through the curtains, then went back to the door and knocked again for a long time before giving up. Her expression was difficult to decipher; she didn’t really seem truly sad (or at least not yet?), but rather surprised and disappointed. At that moment, I wondered if he paid her; there was no way of knowing, but the answer in my view was probably yes.
Its just universal redpill, people are fond of pleasure and material profit and will act upon that impulse if there is no circumstances that would have prevent them from doing so. Current western societies are basically built around the concept of pursuing happiness, defined as cooming and swagging.

Is that what "Mayli" translates to in English?

All the stuff about the Japanese wife made my pp hoird.

Protagonist struggles to find love and meaning occurs against the backdrop of a declining West. He fails. Its dark and funny. What didn't you like/get?
The meaning is pretty cut and dry tbh. The real mystery is why he chose to Include the scene with the e-girl. Was it supposed to mean anything, or was he just being a coomer?
Like what? She was doing that for money or just shits and giggles/attention and care lacking from parents, there is no sign of her being forced or coerced. A participant in the sexual free market, which is sick in its own way, but nevertheless a result of the societal system, more than any individual actions or notions. If it wasnt the German, there would be someone else. The only values that matter are money and attention, hence the little girl is whoring herself, most likely following the role models from mass media and immediate social circle. There are no innocents, since there is no innocence anymore.
The first of his I read, picked up in a British book shop for full cover price so you got a good deal. It's very accessible, quick to read and a good example of his cynical style.
lmao, imagine Cormac writing about antidepressants or neoliberalism or pornography or screen addiction or hypergamy

Ephemeral, maybe, but they characterize our age. Houellebecq's writing isn't timeless but by dealing directly with these topics he will remain relevant as a critic of this specific era

brainlet take
thinking writers reach universal themes through something out of their present experience of the world (as if it could exist lol) is insulting literature
Nothing to get from it. It was a shitty book, like most from Houellebecq
this
you guys just don't have SOVL

did you do that to your post on purpose
No, lol, but I see what you mean

it's my third favorite after whatever and submission
homosexual
it's a perfect encapsulation of the post-modern neoliberal experience of denuded males in the western world.
This is the most reddit description I've ever read. Go fricking back right now
reddit is full of trannies who celebrate neoliberalism, dumbass
moronic take.
Neoliberalism doesn’t exist
His first two novels are better I think
Adult women love virile dogs and e-girls love generous pedos. Trained pittbull and bag of candies will get you very far in life. Thats it.
What the actual frick did anon mean by this

I did actually picture Mayli when reading this.
Skill issue. Michelle Wellbeck is one of the best living female French authors.

it was to show he still had some humanity and tried to do the right thing and wasn't completely despondent

he lived a modern urban bugman life and got le sad went on medication and got even le sadder
it's fairly straight forward, your question is redundant.
BECAUSE UR NOTHING MORE THAN A NORMIE
Picked up Submission for 2 Great British Pounds at a charity shop today. Have never read Houellebecq before; what am I in for?
The first of his I read, picked up in a British book shop for full cover price so you got a good deal. It's very accessible, quick to read and a good example of his cynical style.
I don’t think he has staying power. He won’t be talked about after his death
His writing isn't great but who else even comes close to capturing Kali Yuga decadence?
Cormac
