I don't read things like normal people do when I use the internet, I skim through most of it and pay attention to key words, making it so I don't have to dedicate a large portion of my brain towards remembering a lot of text. This makes it so I manage to comprtamentalize ideas easily but also leads to issues of misunderstanding things and not getting the bigger picture. The issue is that I consider myself to be smart enough to fill out the gaps between these ideas as it would be obvious to anybody. As I've matured, my ability to interpret things has declined, and I feel as though I am intelligent enough to logically reach conclusions through only understanding parts of a text comparable to what the author intended. And when I don't and understand things wrong, it's not my problem.

That is literally the way my mind works, whenever I am put into a situation where anyone or anything is trying to cram information into my brain, I zone out and only understand about 20% of what is being said. Sometimes not even that.
Will allowing myself to discuss the ideas I've read about with other people improve my reading comprehension or do you reckon it to be a personal journey, like do I need to take notes and use highlighters, does anyone do this and does it help? How weird would it be to do something like this with fiction
Reflecting on what you've learned or read is important but not completely necessary, unless you want to share with different people and maybe prepare yourself for something like a discussion that might require you to fully understand what you've gathered. With me, it happened on its own and it works, the amount of text I actually manage to gather can vary a lot, which is pretty normal from what I understand. I'd say it depends on what you're trying to achieve.

What I mentioned is probably the only way someone can manage to remember things, I would say that if you have good memory you might be able to remember more, it depends on yourself. I don't get it when people refer to reading comprehension as if it had been the most important part about reading, when what happens instead is that you're given words in a context meant to convey an idea instead of remembering the text itself.
How hard do you think it is to reflect on what other people have read? What if I put myself in their position and come to a different conclusion, what does it say about the nature of conclusion?
Linear thinking is the most logical thing someone who wants to learn a specific viewpoint does, and while it's not wrong, being aware of potential different conclusions strenghten your ability to manage a strong viewpoint. I'd call it a type of damage control before it even happens, it's not essential nor crucial to forming a viewpoint, and if you focus too much on it you could completely deteriorate your point of view, but any type of strong conclusion should manage critical analysis even prior to it becoming an issue.
I stand for any damage control done in good faith, if it is bad faith it makes me angry and I skip a few conclusions and jump to the ultimate conclusion, am I the problem or do my friends need to accept reality and choose me as their pack leader?
That is how most everyone reads and why most everyone has terrible comprehension.
I can't remember anything that doesn't strike out to me. If I glanced over some important detail which didn't strike out to me I leave it up to the power of brain chemicals to put it in the front of my brain when the necessary time comes, if not, then maybe it wasn't fated or I'm just unlucky
