i just use gmail with thunderbird and pgp encryption. Best of both worlds lul.
I never switched over to gewgle. I'm still using yahoo to this day. Never understood the hype and never saw a reason to switch.

If you're just wanting to get off Google and you're not worried about a state actor reading your shit, proton mail has been great. I made the switch over a year ago, frick Gmail. Proton's spam filtering is just as good, they will host custom domains, let you setup a catch-all, calendar, it just works.

Even without rDNS/PTR my mail doesn't end up in spam, but only because I put a bit of effort in setting it up.

Email wasn't designed with security in mind. Looking for a "secuire email" provider is a waste of time.
I don't care about security. What I don't want is to shit myself one day when for whatever reason Google decides to block my account. I use it for "official" shit like online shops or public services.

Are you on Linux? You can use Thurderbird or Mutt, if on Windows then try Mailbird or Thunderbird again
