Daylight Savings is designed for agrarian societies. No matter how much you want to move away from this, just as it was in Rome, the farmer IS the people. The nobility. The salt of the Earth.

You'll be up in the middle of the night for a few hours working by oil light when the collapse is in full swing, just like the old days.
This whole 8 hours of sleep thing is modern bullshit.

      No,

It's the opposite. The shopping, leisure, vacation, themepark industry keeps on lobbying to keep DST alive.

      Farmers prefer "early sunrises."

Year round DST means, for example, most people in the US will have sunrises as late as 9:30 AM during Winter. That's why there are seasonal changes.

Oh come now it can't be that bad. We humans descend from warriors who had to get out of bed with no sleep and go fight to the death, and then survived. We are adaptable. Deep down we even crave disruption to an extent. But when life is too stressful, it can be the final straw on a camel's back.

I'm a DST denier accelerationist. Not only do I believe that DST must be completely abolished but everyone should be on the same timezone.
If, let's say, it's 07:00 for me and I'm just waking up, it means that it's also 07:00 in Japan and the US. The only difference is that at 07:00 the Japs will be having lunch and at 07:00 the Americans will be sleeping.
Got an international zoom call with your coworkers? Cool, everyone writes down the timeframe which makes him available and everyone agrees on one common time to have that call.

      Anonymous

      >I'm a DST denier accelerationist
I'm a DST chaotic accelerationist. Every country is expected to find its Greta Thunberg downie autist and that person becomes the arbiter of the time. Every start of their country's new year (whether it's lunar new year or Jan 1pr whatever), the resident downie picks the time. Hour and minute.
Then, some international DEI council must find some country of Black folk to pick the rare at which savings is applied to every country's time throughout the year. It can only go one direction though. So for example, Nigeria can elect for everyone to lose an hour every 3 weeks.

Serious question - why couldn't we just pick, say, weekends in November and March to move the clock back/forward 15 minutes each time instead of one hour, one time? Seems less disruptive. I understand that approach would've been a pain decades ago, but now that time is tracked digitally and updated automatically on many devices, why not?
