I HAVE A QUESTION
How do (You) download youtube videos? While I am using yt-dlp, it automatically downloads the 'best' quality video. (VP9 and Opus) But what does this mean?
I switched from JDownloader, where I always downloaded MP4/AAC. I noticed those MP4 videos look better and have a higher bitrate. What are your thoughts?
moron
>someone asks genuine question
>moron
Who's the real moron here?
(you)
He is right. You sound like one of the homosexuals in /sqt/ who is only there to bullshit and throw insults.
Nevermind. After reading the above, I remembered where I am.
fippy bippy
i just have script that downloads specific format. lowest opus 50kb and 480p vid. believe it's -f 135+139 flag
youtube-dl -f 271+251 --merge-output-format mp4
>youtube-dl
yikes
I just wonder why the yt-dlp people think the best quality is vp9 when it clearly looks like shit compared to H24 MP4.
I renamed yt-dlp to youtube-dl because it breaks some software that uses it
>I just wonder why the yt-dlp people think the best quality is vp9 when it clearly looks like shit compared to H24 MP4.
Go check your eyes please.
>I just wonder why the yt-dlp people think the best quality is vp9 when it clearly looks like shit compared to H24 MP4.
Because you're probably right. For vp9 to compete with h264 that has twice the bitrate it needs to be encoded with -deadline best which youtube probably do not because that's just too much for a server that has several thousands of uploads everyday.
ignore morons and trust your eyes
what's wrong with the default webm ?
yt-dlp "url" is all I need
Yry ytfzf as well. Has good cli options and you can also strem video there
yt-dlp -F <url>
to view all the format codes
yt-dlp -f code <url>
or
yt-dlp -f video_code+audio_code <url>
to get the video in the desired format
Ddownr.com and loader.to
yt-dlp -f bestvideo[height=4320]+251/bestvideo[height=3840]+251/337+251/305+251/266+251/401+251/315+251/313+251/313+140/336+251/304+251/264+251/400+251/308+251/271+251/271+140/335+251/399[fps>30]+251/303+251/299+251/bestvideo[height=1080]+251/bestvideo[height=1080]+140/334+251/398[fps>30]+251/302+251/298+251/bestvideo[height<=720]+251/bestvideo[height<=720]+140/bestvideo+bestaudio/best --merge-output-format mkv <url>
yea this is the moronic way. i could never remember it. it's easier to pass -F and see all formats yourself and memorize numbers you gonna be using the most instead
You can select any video and audio track you want when using youtube-dl and its forks.
>I noticed those MP4 videos look better
Can you show us an example?
>Can you show us an example?
all the google vp9 shills lmao
Sometimes I use pic rel if nothing else works for me, but most of the time I use yt1s.com over any local app. For some reason, if I download directly from YouTube I often get download speeds in the ballpark of 5-90 kB/s. Name something more infuriating. Using a trash website and getting full speed from their servers is much better.
Use yt-dlp for full speeds.
I get full speed with yt-dlp on both powershell and Linux terminal.
RTFM
KYS
-f 137+140 -S height:1080 -o /home/SNEED/Downloads/%(uploader)s' - '%(upload_date>%Y-%m-%d)s' - '%(title)s.%(ext)s
sauce on image?
>she didn't save yt-dlp with standard youtube-dl name
why?
vp9 and opus are modern video and audio encoders respectively, these streams are generally the highest quality ones you can get from youtube and they're the smallest size, if you don't need the compatibility the older ones like avc and aac provide (you'll know if you need it) then just leave it at that
well they're not encoders but codecs, but you get the idea
if you want to learn more google video compression, audio compression
for audio hydrogenaud.io is a good resource, dunno about video
AV1 is better, forget MP* and Google's trash.
>vp9 left
>h264 right
it's a very clear difference, vp9 is bit starved on youtube
Yes I knew this was the case. My shit looks like a YIFY rip. and all the google shills in this thread are BTFO.
Doesn't happen with yt-dlp.
You're gonna get youtube throttled eventually if not protecting yourself.
