try to run any ubisoft game or game with anticheat

ofcourse i realise this isnt the fault of linux, but it can be a dealbreaker for many people, was a dealbreaker for me.

            >Ubisoft
Most of the Asscreeds work just fine, everything that isn't Siege or multiplayer really.
            >anticheat
This isn't 2016 anymore grandpa, it's pretty much just Destiny2 at this point since the devs have some weird hardon against linux.
I get better performance in Apex than I do on windows

didn't work for my use case, that's all I can really say, it was a dealbreaker. Linux still isn't all the way there for gaming, at least for me:

Max Payne 1 & 2 would have forced vsync / 60fps lock which fricks around with the mouse latency. Spent 6 hours trying to troubleshoot with my linuxbro friends to no avail - dealbreaker for me especially.

Any WWE 2k game (laugh all you want homosexuals, I'm showing you the issues I have) will not launch due to their shitty anticheat.

            >Most of the Asscreeds work just fine, everything that isn't Siege or multiplayer really.
As for ubishit, any game prior to 2012 (the good ones) don't launch due to the awful DRM.

I can't even use the peripherals I bought because the drivers aren't supported for Linux. I could go on and on with my experiences but you get what I mean.

Windows will always be the way to go if you're a gamer because the industry is geared towards it

Windows will always be the way to go if you're a gamer
Not if valve has a say in it. I know the chances are slim but if the work done in steamOS and proton bare fruit it won't take years for Linux to be an as viable solution to gaming as windows is. But who I am kidding the ultimate goal should be a linux "console". And if that is ever truly realised windows would be btfoed.

            >fricks around with the mouse latency.
this is a reported problem in windows too though lmao.

WTF are you talking about anon? Again, this isn't 2016. The difference between the last few years and last decade is insane.

            Anonymous

im not playing games or using hardware made within the last few years, moron

mouse latency is a prevalent issue for the games I described on linux, not so on Windows, thus I choose to use Windows, what do you not see? Shit just werks for me, so I use it.

All the farcry games work out of the box for me, squad and most other games with anticheat also work with some tweaks. Think pubg was the only game where the anticheat stops ot working for me.

My Nvidia GPU is unavailable each time i close my laptop, so i have to restart the entire device to use pytorch with GPU acceleration. Probably some shitty powersave settings i haven't found yet. Still, you don't see me making threads about it on IQfy...

Exactly, your better off going to reddit, you might get actual help there.
Have you tried a bios setting for powers save options? Might solve your issue.

        >Have you tried a bios setting for powers save options
No but I'm quite certain it's a power saving option of the os. My laptop has intel and Nvidia graphics so the switching with prime on linux isn't ideal to say the least. Had no such problems years ago when i still ran windows so uefi settings are likely not the culprit.

The only thing amd has going for them is performance and good (better than nvidia worse than intel) gpu drivers on linux. There official drivers suck on both platforms and they also have shit support for both of them.

Then one day I decided to try AMD for my new PC

Now I buy Nvidia not like a drone, but like a knowledgeable man

    >Larping Nvidiot, who has never touch any non-Nvidia hardware.....
Protip: Modern GPUs work out of the box on all mainstream platforms under the vast majority of workloads. They all have their own stupid quirks but nothing showstopping.
The vast majority of crashes are results of faulty hardware (overheating, overclocked too far and insufficient power)

      Anonymous

      >The vast majority of crashes are results of faulty hardware (overheating, overclocked too far and insufficient power)

None of those things are faulty hardware.

      >overheating
user error, all cards are capable of running full load without thermal throttling. It's the users fault for putting it in the oven they call a case

      >overclocked too far
      literal user error

      >insufficient power
user error for powering it with a psu not capable of providing the power.

  15. 2 years ago

99% sure that's either a cooling issue or a power issue. Try playing some games on Linux to rule out driver issues.

apart from crashed, how much of a performance improvement is a 3080 over a 5700 xt?

        Anonymous

Using a Ryzen 3700X the upgrade from a 5700XT to a 3080 was a little disappointing. FPS was a lot higher but really didn't feel like it. 1% lows maybe?. Picked up a Ryzen 5800X and it made a huge improvement. Now I have almost double the performance of the 5700XT when it ran right. This chart is pretty accurate.

Hey anons, planning a build for this fall assuming all goes well. What are some parts I can start buying ahead of time? I'd like to get items on sale where I can find them so I'll check everyday. I was thinking things like the Power Supply, storage, ram, etc. I know I run the risk of getting a dud item that can't be tested until I complete my build but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
