I like how explorer windows randomly say "no files found" until you refresh them.
I do enjoy that moment of panic when you think everythings been deleted. thanks Microsoft!

I've been using various Windows, Mac and Linux versions for over 20 years.
True, Windows used to be the most stable and compatible OS, great for work and games. Mac was ok for some lines of work, but I never got why people became raving maniacs when it comes to defending their shitty hardware and policies. But nowadays I feel like Windows isn't really neccessary anymore, since Linux made great advancements in compatibility, especially since the release of Proton and the Steam Deck. Most apps run on Linux perfectly fine and even more would, if they'd ditch the DRM or made it Linux-compatible (looking at you, Adobe and also Destiny 2).
But yeah, the real switch to Linux isn't gonna happen because people gatekeep over trivial stuff like file managers, while in reality there's more than enough choice even for Windows users. (Spoiler: you don't have to keep using your OS's default file manager!)

But yeah, I use what I want and I'm probably going to ditch Windows completely at some point.

      >Power User
      Windows 10/11
      >Intermediate User
      macOS (Latest)
      >Beginner User
      ChromeOS

The big three companies have already made three perfect operating systems, with windows focusing on wide compatibility and a lot of customization and options and gaming, while macos targets the more aesthetic focused crowd and great syncing and best ecosystem, and chromeos targets wide availability and easy access to google's cloud ecosystem. Linux distributions have no place in the world.

        >Linux distributions have no place in the world
Maybe not in YOUR world, but certainly in mine. Just use whatever you feel most comfortable with. Don't gatekeep and don't be gatekept. You're free to settle on any OS you like, but don't be surprised when some make it harder to leave than others.

It’s true that Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS have carved out significant niches in the operating system market, each with their own strengths and target audiences. However, Linux distributions also offer a range of advantages that can make them a valuable choice for many users and scenarios. Here are some key benefits of Linux:

No Need to Purchase a License: Linux is free to use. You don’t need to purchase a license as you would with Windows, and it’s not tied to specific hardware like macOS1.
Runs on Minimal System Resources: Linux can run efficiently on older or less powerful hardware, making it a good choice for reviving old systems or ensuring fast performance without the need for constant upgrades1.
Less Exposed to Malware: While no system is immune to malware, Linux is generally less targeted by malware compared to other operating systems, which can lead to a more secure user experience1.
High Customizability: Linux is highly customizable, allowing users to change almost every aspect of the system to suit their needs1.
Strong Community Support: The Linux community is known for its robust support and the availability of a vast array of free software2.
Transparency: Being open-source, Linux allows users to inspect the source code, which promotes transparency and trust1.
These are just a few of the reasons why Linux remains relevant and continues to be used worldwide, not only on personal computers but also on servers, mobile devices, and embedded systems. It’s important to consider that the “best” operating system can vary greatly depending on the specific needs and preferences of the user.

Everything you said is true and it's not just bad technologically. If aesthetically offensive to everyone with a taste. It's plain ugly and full of big and small nuisances, inconsistencies, visual bugs, and poor UI/UX.

It's an awfully designed OS now and it's just keeps getting worse since Windows 8. Anyone who denies it just outs himself as tasteless pleb, simple as. It's an OS for you then.

    >inb4 but it's compatible with my CAD/SAP/LGBTC# software
It better be, the OS powers the fricking world, we must be eternally thankful to whoever is responsible for maintaining Windows' core stuff despite the ongoing massacre.

I'd move to Linux, but they still to this day have no auto scroll. unless you install some extension on a browser and it's only for that browser. so shit

yep. that's exclusively in the browser. whether extension or native. the point being is that it isn't universal on Linux de. wish it was, since I can't upgrade my Windows 10 without issues.

now try it in chromium without any extension.
at least they fixed the scroll speed for the mouse wheel.

I think what to do with mouse clicks being the choice of the program is the expected behavior in any OS. Not linux's fault that chromium decided not to implement it.
