Small things aren't worth tracking, put them in a safe or something. For something big like a vehicle there are better sollutions.
Yeah op is asking for that
Things I own with AirTags on them: my keys, my suitcase, my backpack, my wife's cat. All, imho, worth tracking.
Why would you need a tracker on a cat? You aren't one of those morons who let their cat go outside, are you?
LET her go outside? No indeed. But on the off chance she gets out, we can track her down with our phones. In principle anyway. We've never really tested it.
Aren't AirTags a bit too big for most cats?
I'm also a bit worried about the noise going off and scaring them into a frenzy.
how small do you think a cat is dude? it's not a rat an airtag is just as big as a quarter. most cat trackers are way bigger than that
>how small do you think a cat is dude? it's not a rat
kek thanks for the chuckle anon
Isn't your kitty chipped anyway? If she does get out, animal control finds her, scans her and calls you up.
Yeah, she's chipped, but with an airtag we don't have to wait for her to get picked up by some kind-hearted stranger. We can just go get her.
Anon, it's literally the size of a $1 coin, and lighter at that. It can fit easily in a cat collar for example.
I keep all my stuff in a house
The advantage is the network. Tile doesn't have enough nodes even in major cities, I lost one in central London and never found it. Everyone in UK/US uses iPhone so your tag will never be out of range of an iPhone.
The disadvantage is the fricking rat will tell other iPhone users about itself. If some c**t steals your bag, even if you cut the speaker wire, their iPhone will eventually tell them that the device is with them so they will go through the bag and find it.
Of course if you want real tracking get a cellular device, the battery will be shit tho and you'll pay subscription.
>what else could be better at tracking your stuff
buy a used smartphone from thrift store and install TICE from f-droid (or activate google find-my-device)
The fact that I don't have to pay for a subscription for it is pretty nice. It served its purpose when I bought a 4-pack on sale for $90, and put two in my checked baggage, which got lost and took 8 days to find and only after I told the airline which terminal and which airport it was at. It's also nice to have on car keys. But approach it knowing that it's really not a real-time tracking device, nor is it particularly precise outside of dense urban areas or high human traffic places like airports. For real-time, you want something with GPS and cellular connection/subscription, which the suggestion of a cheap android phone wasn't far off, but there are smaller and more inconspicuous devices for the purpose too.
Sadly apple has a massive advantage here, because they turned millions of phones into slaves for their tracking system with one update.
Only google could offer the same, by putting the feature into stock android... But it would take at least 3 years to be established since most android users don't update (Since they are not forced to, like iOS users.)
The Apple AirTag is a popular choice for tracking personal items due to its integration with the Find My network, precision finding, and replaceable battery. However, opinions on its effectiveness and value vary. On forums like MacRumors, users discuss various aspects of AirTags, including anti-stalking features, alternatives, and personal experiences with the device1.
For alternatives, there are several options that might be considered better depending on your needs. For instance, the Tile Pro offers a longer range and louder sound, Chipolo ONE provides colorful options without a subscription, and Cube Pro serves as both a tracker and a selfie remote2. Each alternative has its own set of features that may appeal to different users.
It’s worth noting that while AirTags are designed to work seamlessly within the Apple ecosystem, there are other products that offer compatibility with both Android and Apple devices, providing more versatility3. Ultimately, whether an AirTag is the only “iToddler” product worth buying is subjective and depends on your specific requirements and preferences for item tracking.
Begone, toaster.
